GeekDudeI'm having a ton of problems with external displays on my ThinkPad e550. I have two displays connected via a docking station, and they are seen by the display manager/configurator. They are enabled and set to extend (though mirroring has the same problem). Mostly they either stay idle, or show as active but completely black. If I fool around with the settings long enough they sometimes turn on properly, but02:45
GeekDudethis seems to be rare02:45
briedy1I am having trouble with sound. My volume control says no output devices are available03:20
briedy1any ideas on how to work that fix out?03:20
GeekDudebriedy1: I don't suppose a reboot will help?03:21
briedy1no, I have done that several times..03:21
GeekDudeDoes `sudo lshw -C multimedia` show any audio devices?03:22
briedy1*-multimedia                      description: Audio device        product: 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller        vendor: Intel Corporation        physical id: 1b        bus info: pci@0000:00:1b.0        version: 02        width: 64 bits        clock: 33MHz        capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list        configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=0        resources: irq:28 memory:febfc000-febfffff03:23
GeekDudeWhat version of Xubuntu are you running?03:24
briedy116.1003:25
GeekDudeIf you run alsamixer from the terminal and press F6 (select sound card) is it listed there?03:26
briedy1Yes, it says HDA INTEL03:27
GeekDudeThis page is probably more help than me https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting03:28
briedy1Thanks GeekDude!03:28
GeekDudeIt should be pretty much entirely applicable to Xubuntu as well03:29
Rarrikinsbriedy1: Messing around in `pavucontrol` might allow you to enable things.03:53
Rarrikinsbriedy1: Check, in the Configuration tab, that it's set to Duplex. Then, check in Output Devices that it's set for sound.03:54

xubuntu57ithe installation seems stuck at the point to create boot partition.... how long to wait before switching everything off ? stuck there since half an hour now...13:09
Israphelxubuntu57i: is it an old machine?13:13
xubuntu57inot really13:13
xubuntu57i3 years13:13
Israphelhdd used to work ok?13:13
Israphelmanual partitions? automatic?13:14
xubuntu57ieverything alright (with xubuntu 14 and mint) until I tried the upgrade of xubuntu to 16, didnt work and I had to use the recovery version of xubuntu 14 since then to boot13:15
xubuntu57iso now I try a new installation13:15
Israphelbut right now are you doing a clean installation of xenial?13:15
xubuntu57iwiping everything out13:15
Israphelwiping partitions or keeping some?13:15
xubuntu57iyes13:15
DrugoHello. What are the names of default gtk2/3 themes and icons in xubuntu 16.04?13:15
xubuntu57ikeeping nothing13:15
IsraphelDrugo: greybird!13:15
Israphelxubuntu57i: oh right. Any specific partition scheme?13:16
DrugoIsraphel, also icons are named greybird?13:16
IsraphelDrugo: icons are called elementary xfce darker13:16
xubuntu57istuck saying "warning: source ID 31643 was not found when attempting to remove it"13:16

DrugoIsraphel, ok, thanks13:17
Israphelxubuntu57i: are you booting from cd or usb13:18
xubuntu57iusb13:18
Israpheldid you created it with DD? the iso file was checked beforehand ?13:19
xubuntu57iwith multisystem13:19
Israphelmd5sum was ok?13:19
xubuntu57ididnt try13:20
Israphelgive it a try, just to discard any posible ISO corruption13:20
Israphelif you have the same ISO you used13:20
xubuntu57ihm13:22
xubuntu57idon't know, I'll see if I still have the same file elsewhere and test it on another computer...13:23
SpassDoesn't Xubuntu have built-in check for errors in the LiveCD boot menu?13:31
SpassFor the ISO errors/corruption I mean.13:32
xubuntu57imd5sum is alright13:34
xubuntu57iand installation still blocked in the same step13:35
xubuntu57ithe installation I chose was complete wipeout and this new partitioning system (don't remember the name)13:38
Israphelxubuntu57i: mm, do you have a clean usb drive to try? using directly DD, no multisystem13:44
xubuntu57iwhats dd ?14:06
Israphela command to directly write images into drives (and a lot more)14:07
Israphelsudo dd if=xubuntu.iso of=/dev/sdc14:07
Israphelcheck your usb letter before14:07
Israpheljust letter, not number14:07
GeekDudeTriple check you have the right device for the of parameter. There's a reason dd is nicknamed disk destroyer14:09
Israpheloh yes, it can do a mess14:10
xubuntu57ican I use the usb for storing stuff too after dd ? or will it only be an installation pendrive then ?14:22
Israphelafter you install xubuntu just format it again14:23
Spassxubuntu57i: If you are not comfortable with terminal, you can try Etcher - https://etcher.io14:23
xubuntu57inext question : if I succeed, how do I come back to this support channel ? (because I am using it from the installation window and I don't know how to come back to it from another computer)14:23
xubuntu57ioh the terminal is not the problem14:23
xubuntu57iI asked about the usb because I thought about partitioning it14:24
Israpheldd is direct binary copy14:24
Israphelit loses every partition scheme14:24
xubuntu57iok14:25
Israphelusb installers created with dd never fails14:25
Israphelif the iso is ok and the usb drive is ok14:25
xubuntu57iso I don't have to partition it beffore then14:26
xubuntu57ito format I mean, sorryu14:26
RFlemingMornin' everyone14:28
xubuntu57iok how to know the letter ? I am on another computer and I don't know how it is gonna be called here14:31
Israphelxubuntu57i: it doesnt matter, DD wipes everything14:32
Israphelxubuntu57i: use the command sudo fdisk -l14:32
Israphell as in LIST14:32
xubuntu57ithanks14:32
Israpheland read carefully...14:32
RFlemingIsraphel: what was the question?14:33
IsraphelRFleming: he is doing a live usb with DD14:34
RFlemingOooh, fun stuff.14:34
xubuntu57ishe but doesn't matter14:36
Israpheloh sorry, your nick is generic14:36
xubuntu57iI imagine I need to add the path to my xubuntu iso, not just the name ?14:40
xubuntu57ialright we'll see14:41
Israphelyes14:42

xubuntu57iso now I need to know how to come back to you guys14:45
xubuntu57ibecause I am gonna force quit the installation that got stuck14:46
xubuntu57iand then how to come back to this forum ? from another computer maybe or maybe from the installation window in the next trial.. ?14:47
Israphelthis is not a forum14:48
Israpheljust connec to the irc14:48

Israphelgood luck!14:53
cricriok I think this time the installation goes aheda15:29
cricriahead15:29
cricriif so15:29
cricrido you think multisystem was the problem ?15:30
cricribecause it has some advantages15:30
cricriquestion : can I partition a usb drive and then install with dd only on one partition ? to leave the other free and accessible for data storing ?15:31
cricribecause I like to always have a live usb with me, I sometimes helped friends with a windows computer crash to recover data, the live usb is quite nice for this15:33
cricrianyway I am gonna stay connected until the installation has finished successfully15:36

RFlemingSorry GridCube ...16:22
Israphelthat was like minutes ago while we waited for people16:22
* RFleming hopes we didn't distract the rest of the channel conversations with our 8 minute spanish conversation.16:23
GridCubethats irrelevant16:23
Israphelwhatever16:23
Israphelcricri: is it working?16:23
RFlemingGridCube: do you know anything about the xfce4-topmenu-plugin?16:24
GridCubenever heard of it before16:24
RFlemingputs the menu bar in the panel, and removes it from the app window16:25
GridCubehttps://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=19597616:25
RFleminglike what Unity and macOS does16:25
Israphelmaosx stuff16:25
GridCubeyeah I figured that part16:25
GridCubejust like mainbuntu does as well16:25
RFlemingit's in the Canonical repos, but I'm wondering if it's 'beta' or if it's released16:26
cricriisraphel : yes I am using it16:26
RFlemingI ask because I'm not sure if I'm going to file a bug, or a feature request :)16:26
Israphelcool16:27
cricribut there is a problem with the software installation center (while installing with the terminal works fine)16:27
Israphelcricri: about the pendrive. I prefer to have one of them only to boot. But you can't "DD" in a partition because without the MBR it won't boot16:28
cricriturns and turns and turns without really opening, doesn't want to show even the already installed programs16:29
Israphelcricri: that shit never works16:29
cricriok for me doesnt matter16:29
cricrijust afraid that means a general problem16:29
RFlemingwe're talking GNOME Software Centre right?16:30
cricriyeah16:30
GridCubeall ubuntu's share the same software center16:30
GridCubei mean repos16:30
GridCubethere is no software in one that is not in the other16:30
RFlemingcricri: you can try and change your region language16:31
RFlemingany change regenerates the data16:31
cricrimaybe because my computer is spanish, and so the keyboard16:31
cricriand my ubuntu language is german16:32
RFlemingshouldn't matter16:32
GridCubethe keyboard should not affect anything like that16:32
RFlemingjust change the regional language (or reinstall) and GNOME software should regenerate16:32
RFlemingcricri: or just purge and reinstall16:33
RFleming(gnome-software)16:33
Israphelcricri: are you spanish?16:33
cricrino16:33
Israphelgerman?16:33
cricriyes16:33

Israphelyou mean the keyboard16:34
Israphelnow you can do this ññññññ16:34
cricriso I have to match the keyboard16:34
cricriof course ññññññññ16:34

IsraphelI work for a germany company called VTours16:35
cricriwhats vtours16:35
cricri?16:35
IsraphelI can't read it but you can: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vtours16:36
GridCubecricri: you can use a different layout in the keyboard, what is printed on the keys is not really important16:37
cricrii know i know16:37
cricrii just put spanish keyboard because then it matches with what is written on the keys16:37
Israphelyeah but that's annoying really, specially when looking for [] {} ? ! ¡¿ "16:38
cricrithen for german I switch to have some letters16:38
cricriand to french for some other letterds16:38
Israphelbut germans uses the " on the bottom16:38
RFlemingAnd Z and Y are switched16:38
cricriso which one should I use then ? ;)16:38
Israphelreally?16:39
cricrialright, let's go back to the question : where should I change the language then to reset the software stuff ?16:40
Israpheland they need ß16:40
Israphelgroße Tier16:40
Israphelit's a notebook I guess16:40
Israphelall settings -> language support16:40
Israphelthere http://i.imgur.com/0LLAGgl.png16:42
IsraphelI don't know how to ignore the 2nd screen in the screenshot app16:42
GridCubeyou can launch the screen capture application from the menu and choose all kinds of different settings16:51
Israphelyes but "entire screen" means "all of them", there's no current screen16:52
RFleminguse Window then16:53
GridCubeyou can always open the image on an image processor and cut it16:56
GridCubei like to use pinta or gthumb16:57
IsraphelI suck with that tools16:58
GridCubeselect a rectangle, cut it16:59
GridCubeits not neuroscience16:59
Israphelsystem overload16:59
xXEoflaOEXxI have 2GB of RAM in my computer, with Xubuntu and it works fine17:02
Israphelyes17:03
Israphelwait, I don't think that was a question17:03
cricrialright, I don't remember who told me to change my regional language (I am Austrian now) but it worked for the Software center17:40
cricrithanks17:40
Israpheland now you're austrian17:41

Israphelthat's common, I work in the software industry17:51

cricricool17:53
cricrinever travelled ?17:58
Israphelinside the country, yes17:59
Israpheloutside no17:59
Israphelmy grandfather was austrian18:00
Israphelmy mother's aunts live in germany18:00
cricriwould like to visit south (or middle) america but I got two dogs that are my best friends18:00
cricriaustria is beautiful18:01
cricriso I travel in europe18:01
cricriand i like the spanish language18:01
cricrispent some time in andalucia18:01
Israphelyeah we don't like each other with the spanish people18:02
Israpheltraveling around europe is easier, smaller countries18:02
Israphelwith good and modern connections18:03
cricriI am living in my little van and travelling with, in summer I work in France in the fields and in winter I go south somewhere in Europe, to germany I only go to see family and friends, but shortly because it's quite cold here18:05
cricriand I got no heater18:06
Israphelhow cool is that18:06
Israpheland what is your area of expertise18:06
Israphelthe van is volkswagen?18:07
cricrito go to south america with dogs and a van is quite impossible18:07
cricrino, mercedes18:07
Israphelbetter yet18:07
Israphelvolkswagen van here is a classic18:07
Israphelwe call it "Combi"18:07

Israphelwhat kind of field work yo do18:09
cricrithis year : picking cherries, apricots, plums, nuts, grapes for wine, and apples (from may to october) and in between there is work like cutting or thinning from time to time18:11
Israphelcool, I suck at field work18:12
cricridoing this kind of jobs since I quit university, I am a biologist and a sociologist in my former life..18:12
Israphelso you have degrees18:12
Israphelawesome18:12
Israphelliving the dream18:12
cricriwhat part is the dream ?18:13
Israpheldoing what you want18:13
cricriyeah now it feels quite real18:14
cricrisounds you're still dreaming18:14
Israphelif you do that here18:14
Israphelyou turn into a hippie18:14
cricriwho knows, maybe I'm a hippie.. ;)18:14
Israphelyeah but "hippie" here is a bad word18:15
Israphelnot for me18:15
cricriI know, people always use it to describe the others18:15
IsraphelI work with computers, I'm like 60% of the population, I'm not original at all18:15
IsraphelI could die while harvesting blueberries18:16
cricriwhat is the bad hippie image in your place ? (people always use it differently)18:17
cricriblueberries ? nice death, no ?18:17
Israphelbecause hippie here: the don't work, they travel without their own cars, they're dirty, they use outdated clothes, they smoke weed (still illegal here)18:18
Israphelstereotype of course18:18
xXEoflaOEXxHow did you get that honeycombs says about the software and hardware information (like CPU load, system uptime, etc.) as seen in the picture? http://i.imgur.com/0VPZLQM.png18:19
Israphelthat honecombs are no honeycombs18:20
Israphelthat's a visual representation of a molecule18:20
cricriI know some hippies from spain, they were quite annoying because they were always asking for everything, food, smoke, drink, place to sleep, ... but for me living that way means doing everything myself, repairing my van, making or collecting or recycling my food, being autonomous18:21
xXEoflaOEXxWhat the package name in order to get them? It looks so cool18:21
Israphelevery dot is Carbon, every line is a bond, N is nitrogen, H is hydrogen and the O is oxygen18:21
Israphelthe software is "conky" is HIGHLY customizable18:21
Israphelthat theme in particular is called "LSD", because that's a LSD molecule18:21
Israphelcricri: germans are WAY different from spanish people18:22
Israpheland we're a mix of spanish, italian and germans/austrians18:22
Israphelgermans hippies are first world hippies18:22
IsraphelxXEoflaOEXx: read about conky and conky-manager18:23
IsraphelI received a package from germany, but now it's stalled at customs.18:25
xXEoflaOEXxIsraphel: ok18:28
xXEoflaOEXxhi18:31
Israphelhi again18:32
cricrifirst world hippies ? I always thought people are completely spoiled in rich countries like here (here nobody understands why I want to start back from zero), and people in your part of the world that has been ravaged by the Europeans seemed more clever because you are closer to knowing the truth about this shit system18:34
Israphel"first world hippies" because they own cars/vans, and they actually work, and they're intelligent18:35
Israphelregular hippies can't do shit18:35
IsraphelArgentina likes feeling european even when we aren't18:36
Israphelwe pretend, we imagine to be rich18:36
Israphelwe don't like feeling poor18:36
Israphelthat's why, if someone here follows your step, he'll be discrminated18:37
Israphelto be respected here you need a house, a modern car, a good job and a family18:37
Israphelthat's our current situation18:38
cricriok maybe what you say is like what the arabic people here feel : they have to pretend to be rich and "normal", they can't have holes in their clothes like I can perfectly do because I have papers, diplomas, white skin18:39
Israphelarabic people is a special case: very rich people and then "all the others", there's no middle point18:39
cricriok I only spoke of poor immigrants18:40
Israphelthat's like the story repeating itself18:40
IsraphelI exist because my grandfather born in the world war II18:40
Israpheland he came here, a neutral country18:40
Israphelwe exist because of the inmigrants, and we still do, they work more than us18:41

xunuxunu[/url]19:33
Israphelyeah that one19:34
Israphelsays "Display"19:34
Israphelxfce4-display-settings is the command19:34
Israphelcheck your power manager config19:35
mrkrampsobviously somthing is triggered then oO19:37
mrkrampswhich is even more weird than funny19:37
Israphelas far as I know, you can't call custom scripts when pluging the cord19:38
xunuxunuexactly what i think mate...very odd..it triggers display settings when power supply gets plugged in...hello...how19:38
xunuxunua cant find anything relating in power man conf19:38
Israphellooks normal?19:39

IsraphelI didn't got thar reference19:40
Israpheldidn't get*19:40
xunuxunumaybe i cant see the tree within the forest....19:41
Israpheloh19:41
xunuxunubut i really think theres nothing odd in this power settings19:42
xunuxunui wonder how it can be triggered19:42
Israphela very nasty cheat would be renaming the xfce4-display-settings file19:42
mrkrampsyou could check dmesg or journalctl if something's logged19:43
xunuxunu i guess im too new to linux itself to properly read out these logs19:46
Israphelthey are not crystal clear19:47
xunuxunujournalctl doesnt give me the info i guess... it echoing the ram mapping, supported cpus, kernel version19:47
xunuxunumuch more i cant read19:47
Israpheljournalctl -f19:48
Israphelthen plug and unplug the charger19:48
mrkrampsxunuxunu, check the systemd journal with:$ journalctl -f19:48
mrkrampsthis will automatically follow new lines19:48
mrkrampsthen plug out and in again the power supply19:48
mrkrampsnew lines should appear directly in case somethings logged19:48
Israphel-f will keep it running19:48
xunuxunux86/fpu i don know19:48
xunuxunuok mate19:48
Israphelmy charger triggers this nov 03 16:49:03 cfadon kernel: ideapad_laptop: Unknown event: 119:49
Israphelwhich is useless lol19:49
mrkrampsit is not useless if it appears everytime19:49
Israphelpartial credit19:50
xunuxunuwell...the -f doesnt give me live echo19:50
xunuxununothing echoing when i plug in and out19:51
Israphelreally?19:51
Israpheloh19:51
Israphelbut the notebook is aware, like in brightness and notifications19:51
xunuxunuit echoed some network ip619:51
xunuxunuyeah19:51
xunuxunuwhen i set brightness it echoes live19:52
xunuxunudead silent on plug out and in19:53
mrkrampshm hm hm19:53
xunuxunubut still triggering the window19:53
xunuxunuhahaha19:53
mrkrampsyou could test with 'xev' it is recognized as a key (combination) maybe!?19:53
mrkramps--it ++if19:53
xunuxunuhaha19:55
xunuxunuits mapping the keyboard19:56
xunuxunubut why19:57
Israphel:O19:57
mrkrampswhich key (code)?19:57
Israphelsuper + P is display19:58
xunuxunuwell...it spits out alot20:00
mrkrampsIsraphel, might be XF86Display as well20:01
Israphelyeah, I think it's F10 in toshiba20:01
Israphelbut he's getting the full display manager, not only the screen selection20:01
mrkrampsxunuxunu, when using 'xev' you may not touch keyboard or mouse20:02
mrkrampsotherwise it will log all inputs20:02
xunuxunuyeah...its events i got that20:02
xunuxunuwhen you move it echoes live20:02
Israphelso what did you get with the charger20:02
xunuxunuhttp://pastebin.com/HVrsCNpR20:03
Israphel7420:05
xunuxunuwell...but the notify message is opening aswell20:05
xunuxunuthat im o power supply or battery20:06
xunuxunuso this could be the notfier or not20:06
Israpheldamn20:06
Israpheldamni run xev and plug the charger20:07
IsraphelI get nothing20:07
xunuxunuthis is the whole one20:08
xunuxunuhttp://pastebin.com/guHT9fXb20:08
xunuxunuonly xev20:08
xunuxunuthen plug in20:08
xunuxunuand out20:08
Israphelyou type a know key (like scape) then do the plugin and unplugin, so you'll know which events to read20:08
xunuxunui think this should be it20:11
xunuxunuhttp://pastebin.com/eYs9cx7r20:11
Israphelnow it says 6520:12
xunuxunubut like i mentioned the noifier opens same time...20:12
IsraphelI get the notifier but no new lines at xev whatsoever20:13
mrkrampsthere's no connection between notification deamon and xinput20:13
mrkrampsat least none i know of20:13
xunuxunuthis is defo the plug out http://pastebin.com/fQqE9Rrn20:15
xunuxunui hit the enter button...and get the hit and release event20:16
xunuxunuthen i plug out and get this event20:16
Israphelthis shit is intense20:18
xunuxunuXD20:19
xunuxunuas you may imagine...its very hard to find ANYTHING on that..it just doesnt make any sense to me.20:22
mrkrampsxunuxunu, have you tried removing the keyboard shortcut from keyboard settings20:22
xunuxunuim not sure if i get what you mean20:24
mrkrampsxunuxunu, there's a default shortcut (maybe two) für the display settings20:24
mrkrampssuper +p and most probably xf86display20:24
mrkrampsgot to settings → keyboard → application shortcuts20:25
mrkrampsand remove them20:25
xunuxunulet me check20:25
Israphelohh german is taking over20:25
mrkrampsit's getting late =D20:26
xunuxunuyou gotta be kidding me20:27
xunuxunuwahnsinn20:27
xunuxunuaber wie20:27
xunuxunubut how does the power plug in trigger this shortcuts20:27
xunuxunuworked20:27
mrkrampsi have absolutely no idea20:28
mrkrampsmy search fu completely failed20:28
xunuxunusolved.....you two dudes are bobastic20:28
xunuxunubombastic20:28
mrkrampsxunuxunu, if you have the time left, go back to keyboard settings and readd the super + p shortcut20:29
Israpheldu hast20:29
mrkrampsjust to check which key is triggerd exactly20:29
Israphel(?)20:29
xunuxunui was about o check it20:30
xunuxunuXD20:30
mrkrampsxunuxunu, was this satellite used with a docking station?20:32
xunuxunuits the xf86display20:32
mrkrampsmakes sende20:32
mrkramps*sense20:32
xunuxunui can leave the super -P20:32
xunuxunulike how XD20:33
xunuxununo...without docking station20:33
mrkrampsi was not expecting it to map something to super + p =D20:33
mrkrampsxf86display is a single key code20:33
mrkrampsbut that's pretty much all20:33
xunuxunuwell ok...what is this keycode anyway20:33
xunuxunujust for the archive20:33
xunuxunuXD20:33
mrkrampseverything else does not make sense in any way20:34
mrkrampsXF86Display should be keycode 23520:34
xunuxunuwhat a little worm...20:35
xunuxunucheers cheers folks...big up big up...gotta talk to you guys soon...made my day20:36
xunuxunua reason for me to use irc more often20:36
xunuxunuXD20:36
mrkrampsyou're welcome!20:37
xunuxunuas im not in daily use of this machine..its for a friend..i will see if theres some more issues...you 2 on xubuntu?20:37
mrkrampsthis machnine, yes20:38
xunuxunujust interested if youre using same distro20:38
xunuxunuso for the record...it is the toshiba satellite l850d20:40
xunuxunuif anyone comes up wit this kind of bugger20:41
mrkrampsxunuxunu, you should also check the bios settings20:41
mrkrampsno idea what exactly, but something might be suspicous20:41
xunuxunui did...but i couldnt find anything strange20:42
mrkrampsso weird =D20:42
xunuxunui wondered why the numlock light is on while booting20:42
xunuxunuit made me suspicious20:42
xunuxunuthat it is indeed a bios problem20:42
mrkrampsshould be off as soon as kernel is loaded20:42
mrkrampsi consider this to be normale … BIOS POST messages → numlock on, GRUB bootloader → numlock off20:44
xunuxunuwhat does the numlock reset in keyboard settings cause?20:44
mrkrampslinux by default starts with numlock disabled20:44
xunuxunuits turned off at the moment...i had it checked...but unchecked it20:44
xunuxunujust to try...so i guess i give it a checkmark again to be reset on boot20:45
xunuxunu...still i dont know what the difference is when checked or not20:45
mrkrampsit is a very simple function20:46
mrkrampswhen exiting xfce session the last state of numlock is saved20:46
mrkrampsin a file20:46
mrkrampsand when starting a new session this state is read from the file20:46
xunuxunuah...ok...just for comfort...now i got it20:46
mrkrampsexactly!20:46
xunuxunusession restore20:46
xunuxunubig up...good lad20:47
mrkrampsthere's a similar issue with screen brightness for example20:47
xunuxunuwhat issue?20:47
mrkrampslast state (e.g. 50%) was not saved on shutdown and next start brightness was up to 100% again20:48
xunuxunui will see if that is the case20:49
xunuxunuwanna know20:49
xunuxunuill reboot...give me a second20:49
mrkrampsshould be solved by a systemd unit now20:49
mrkrampsyay20:49
xunuxunuhello21:11
xunuxunuback again....the issue with brightness i dont have21:12
mrkrampsxunuxunu, 16.04?21:12
xunuxunuyeah21:12
mrkrampsas said, should be solved by systemd-backlight now21:14
mrkrampsthis was rather an example for another comfort function for restoring states21:14
xunuxunuyeah,,still wanted to check ...before i hand over the machine...i want the linux to run fine so that the dude is happy with it21:15
xunuxunu...i cant stand hearing sth like...windows is better or i dont like linux XD21:16
mrkrampsyeah, and especially those tiny malfunctions foster rejection21:17
sa_hey yall21:18
xunuxunuexactly mate exactly...for me...i fell in love with linux from the very first time i tried it...although you have to munch your way through some obstalces21:18

sa_where is the conflict21:31
mrkrampsi am not a network expert21:32
mrkrampsbut the entries in /etc/network/interfaces look wring21:33
mrkramps*wrong21:33
sa_why wrong ?21:33
sa_because it  is not matching the output of ifconfig ? the ipv4 shown there ?21:34
mrkrampsno, your loopback device lo should not habe a static ip21:34
mrkrampsactually there should only be:21:35
mrkrampsauto lo21:35
mrkrampsiface lo inet loopback21:35
sa_so21:35
sa_should i delete it from interfaces ?21:36
mrkrampsinterfaces should only have the two lines i mentioned above21:37
sa_what about wlp3s021:38

sa_worked21:43
sa_i think ....21:44
GeekDudeI'm having problems with external displays on my ThinkPad e550. I have two displays connected via a docking station, and they are seen by the display manager/configurator. Despite being enabled, they mostly stay idle, or show as active but are entirely black. If I fool around with the settings long enough they sometimes turn on properly, but this seems to be rare.22:46
