[11:42] yeah my sis tells me how dry it is there [11:44] dam about 25% full, and have till about March according to some minister (although by my linear calc it's about early Jan) till we are in serious trouble... [13:02] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6yuP2Qay1g [13:07] whahaha! since when did a bicycle cost R80 [15:55] hi all, I'm sure this is a FAQ but I cant find recent advice. I'm looking to purchase a new latop that is linux friendly. It will be mainly for development. So 15" min screen size. Budget is around 35k and I'd like to get it by mid-dec latest. [15:55] Does anyone have any pointers? [15:55] the Acer Predator i7 looks ok [15:55] but linux support is not well documented [15:55] I'm not sure where else to look [15:55] thanks [15:57] qwebirc42625: try a Lenovo maybe? [15:57] Most laptops are manufactured by like 3 taiwanese companies, so the internals are pretty much the same and kernel support should be reasonable [15:57] HPs might work too [15:58] although... for R35K, you could order a System76 (or get someone coming from murica to bring it for you) [15:59] I looked at the system76 but I've seen some terrible reviews lately [15:59] I'm just trying to avoid getting a mac-book pro [16:00] that's true too. [16:00] thats what is currently being suggested [16:00] what was your last laptop? and are you new here? [16:00] entroWare would be idea, but not an option [16:00] I'm using a dell latitude. running ubuntu 100% (apart from the dual graphics card nonsense) [16:00] and yup, I'm new here :D [16:01] Dell XPS Ubuntu edition ? [16:02] xps 13 is the linux version, xps 15 does is not linux as such [16:02] tricky.... [16:03] for R35K, you can get a top end SSD gaming laptop and dual-boot it with Linux and SteamOS [16:04] ok, thanks I'll take a look. So far I've only see then Acer Predator i7 [16:04] I'll check hp and lenovo then too [16:04] introduce yourself before you leave qwebirc42625 :) [16:10] oh, sorry. Hi I'm Andre :) [16:10] thanks for the help. I'll look around some more. Doing what I can to avoid Apple. [16:11] though I guess worst case dual booting on a MBP is not the end of the world [16:11] aren't Macs harder to dual-boot than regular Windows laptops? [16:13] yup apparently [16:14] + the apple tax means you get a lot less hardware [16:23] harder to dual boot - I wouldn't really say so [16:24] but I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would willingly pay so much more for the same hardware [16:25] exactly [16:26] there are some nice asus options [16:33] sigh, but the asus arog's cause kernel issues for any kernel after 4.3 :'( [21:03] hi
