sorinello_Something is a little meesed up when working with dual monitors on latest Xubuntu. 16.04 was ok, but now it's a little bit harder to setup, might even involve a restart. I don't think this is Xubuntu related, maybe more to XFCE - Display app. Did anyone encounter issues with this ?13:17
non-expert-xubunDoes anybody know where I can find the documentation for Network Manager in xubuntu?16:26
non-expert-xubunI want to create a new connection bonding device, using two wifi connections. Network manager has this functionality, it seems, but I can't find it in the official manual.16:27
non-expert-xubunIf you try to add a new connection in network manager, 'bond' is one of the choices. I can't believe that this isn't documented somewhere. Does network manager have a webpage?16:34
non-expert-xubunOr is it some kind of secret information?16:40
akxwi-davenon-expert-xubun:  it may be worth trying in channel #nm16:41
akxwi-davethats the dedicated network manager channel.16:42
akxwi-daveor try here https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/NetworkManager16:43
non-expert-xubunThanks. I am trying that.16:43
non-expert-xubunThere is no response on #nm17:14
non-expert-xubunIt's one of the functions in xubuntu and should be documented.17:15
non-expert-xubunWhat I can find, as options: 1) wait on irc, or 2) join the nm developer mailing list. Incredible.17:16
non-expert999So I went over to #nm and asked, but they don't have any documentation of connection bonding that is tailored to Ubuntu, only Red Hat. So - if I understand this correctly, Ubuntu, including Xubuntu, has a functionality in the graphical Network Manager which is not documented anywhere. It's possible to click where it says add 'bond' interface, and play around with the configuration, but there is no documentation.18:29
non-expert999I don't know if this means developers think this is such a rarely used feature that it's a waste of time to write documentation, but if it's so rarely used it might as well be removed entirely.18:30
flocculantdevelopers don't write the documentation here, people do, you're a people - write it then mail it to the dev mailing list https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/xubuntu-devel18:31
flocculantthen it'll at least get into the Xubuntu documentation18:31
flocculantyou could also do it at ubuntu wiki - then everyone can benefit18:32
non-expert999OK, I might do that, if/when I find out how to set it up.18:37
flocculantcool18:42
non-expert999I think it would be a nice feature, to combine/thread connections.18:44
flocculanthttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBonding18:45
flocculantis that what you're talking about?18:45
flocculantnot going to be of anymore help though - no idea what it is ;)18:45
non-expert999Yeah, I tried that, but ran into some error message related to the startup18:45
non-expert999bonding is that you can use two (or more) connections "as if" they were one connection, and thus increase the speed  or better balance the load18:46
non-expert999the typical setup is if you have an ethernet cable and a wifi connection, you can use bonding to let the computer use the ethernet by default, but switch seamlessly to wifi whenever the ethernet is downn18:48
non-expert999or use both to increase speed18:48

sewerratHey, trying to set up fstab for an internal hdd, could anyone tell me what is the problem with the following: UUID=b483c85b-f952-42e2-88c6-df7448a8a341 /home ext4 defaults 0 222:27
Spasssewerrat: Are you sure you want to mount it in /home?22:33
sewerratYes, is there any reason why i should not? im a beginner.22:35
SpassI'm not an advanced user either, but I don't think /home is recommended as the mounting directory.22:37
SpassHere's my line for an internal HDD - http://paste.ubuntu.com/23448542/22:37
sewerratOk, will have a look.22:38
knomesewerrat, at what stage are you at?22:38
knomeare you about to install, or have you installed already?22:38
sewerratAlready installed.22:38
knomeok, and you didn't specify to mount this particular partition at installation time?22:38
sewerratFresh install last night and just got it to detect my second hdd.22:39
knomeokay, in that case you already have /home22:39
knomeso mounting to the same target will not work22:39
knome(even if you don't have a specific partition for it, it'll be created on the / partition)22:39
sewerratSo if i would specify /home as mounting for my second hdd, it will automatically mount on / instead?22:40
knomeno.22:40
knomeyour fstab will either already have a partition mounted to /home or /22:41
sewerratOh, i see.22:41
knomeregardless of that, /home exists already22:41
knomemounting to an existing target won't work22:41
sewerratSo the simplest way to get the second hdd to mount at /home would be to reinstall and set it from there?22:41
knomeif you are not very familiar with the directory structure, partition and that kind of stuff, then that's likely the "simplest" way22:43
knomenote that even if you do that, /home is a system directory22:43
knomeso you will always have user directories inside22:43
sewerratOk, i think i understand, correct me if im wrong; If i would to be mount it in /home/username/Afolder would that work?22:44
sewerratsince Afolder is a user directory?22:45
knomeas it's on a different HDD, i'm not actually sure22:45
knomeanyway, i wouldn't do that22:45
knomewhy don't you mount it at /data, then create a symlink in your home directory?22:45
sewerratOk, thank you for your time and help, I will try that!22:46
knomenp, have fun22:46
=== bazhang_ is now known as bazhang
sewerratKnome, everything worked fine with mounting at /data, and i managed to create system links from my home folder to /data for storage, thank you for your help again.23:14
knomeglad to hear it worked out well for you23:15
