mbeierl | Question: I have MAAS installed and am wanting to manually insert a single server. Using the web ui, I added hardware, with MAC address of the PXE interface, as well as IPMI functions. On commissioning, the server powers on and starts PXE. On MAAS server, using tcpdump, I see the PXE boot requests coming in from MAC address, but MAAS never responds. What did I do wrong? | 14:57 |
brendand | mbeierl, have you enabled the dhcp server on the right subnet? | 15:01 |
mbeierl | brendand: ah, probably not. Was following maas guides on line and that was not clear. Can you point me to a guide for that in 1.9? Or if it's simple, what do I need to do? | 15:02 |
mbeierl | also, does it become a DHCP server for that subnet by default, or will it only respond to the MAC addresses listed in the hardware? I need to be careful as this is a shared subnet | 15:03 |
brendand | mbeierl, hmm. no - it's not really recommend to enable dhcp on a subnet with another dhcp server running | 15:04 |
mbeierl | there is not another DHCP running | 15:04 |
mbeierl | but we might want to have two MAAS systems for testing and I want to have mine respond to my servers only. Is that possible? | 15:04 |
mbeierl | I know from dnsmasq, as an example, that I can restrict replies to certain MACs only, but I don't know if that is the intent of MAAS or not. | 15:05 |
brendand | mbeierl, there might be a way to do that, but i don't know off the top of my head. are you using 1.9 or 2.0 > ? | 15:06 |
mbeierl | 1.9 | 15:06 |
brendand | ok | 15:06 |
mbeierl | I found the 1.9 docs for DHCP, I think | 15:08 |
mbeierl | brendand: ah. I'm acutally using MAAS 2.0. And I cannot find the installation docs for that online: https://maas.ubuntu.com/docs2.0/ | 15:21 |
brendand | mbeierl, http://maas.io/docs/en/? | 15:28 |
mbeierl | brendand: ah. thanks! | 15:28 |
mbeierl | http://maas.io/docs/en/installconfig-subnets-dhcp <- I think this is what I missed | 15:29 |
mbeierl | brendand: ok, enabled DHCP on the VLAN, but still nothing... | 15:33 |

brendand | mbeierl, as long as you have images synced it really ought to work | 15:49 |
mbeierl | brendand: :( That's what I thought. Going to dig further to see if I can figure out what else might be going on. Any log files you can recommend? | 15:50 |
begbert | My fresh MAAS install seems to be hanging on Region importing when I try to import boot images. | 18:17 |
begbert | Last log entry is Nov 9 13:16:32 bme-maas maas.import-images: [INFO] Finished importing boot images, the region does not have any new images. | 18:17 |
Braven | Hello all. Can vlan be used to commission nodes? | 18:32 |
Braven | ?? | 18:35 |
begbert | http://askubuntu.com/questions/847544/importing-images-hangs-at-importing-region | 19:31 |
begbert | Well, this was a very helpful use of my time. Guess I'll go use Foreman or something. | 19:49 |
Braven | I am trying to add a vip in interface on the maas server | 20:54 |
Braven | it keeps cutting off the :0 of bond0:0 | 20:55 |
mbeierl | ok, I am able to start commissioning a node, but it does not appear to be successful. I am getting HTTP 401 errors: POST /MAAS/metadata/2012-03-01/ HTTP/1.1" 401. The systems cannot access the internet directly for NTP, so I put an ntp server into the MAAS/settings page, but still no luck | 21:21 |
Braven | hmm | 21:26 |
Braven | how long did you wait? | 21:27 |
