cpaelzerThiagoCMC: your system seems rather idle or super locked up with so many HLT exits06:44
cpaelzerThiagoCMC: anyway if that stat isn't enough and none of the tools is (I don't know) then you can still tap on all these on your own06:44
cpaelzerThiagoCMC: check http://www-05.ibm.com/de/events/linux-on-system-z/downloads/Tools-MK2-V7-Web.pdf page 163 ff06:44
cpaelzerThiagoCMC: you can just tap on the kvm tracpoints if you like and likely get the extra info on the msr write06:44
cpaelzerThiagoCMC: locks and too much idle together with much exits I have seen often on oversized guests06:45
cpaelzerThiagoCMC: so depending on your case just reduce the amount of vcpus for a quick test06:46
breezy_hey guys, i installed ubuntu server, and i was using it.... but everytime i load up i get this one liner on a black screen "dev/sda1: clean 65938/44744704 files, 325515/178977536 blocks"07:29
breezy_last time i had the same black screen and it started working after maybe 10 minutes.... does it usually take 10minutes in order for me to get a command prompt?07:30
breezy_i tried !sysreq07:30
breezy_and alt+printscreen REISUB07:30
breezy_but i dont know if that is the reason it started last time or not... but right now i just have one line and its not starting...07:30
breezy_anyone here?07:32
cpaelzerbreezy_: could that be a file system check?08:27
cpaelzernacc: current usd repo is not supposed to work right?08:27
breezy_i have no idea what it is08:27
breezy_im completely new to ubuntu serer08:27
breezy_i was using it earlier today (and i got the same error earlier) i just have no idea how i bypassed it before08:27
cpaelzerbreezy_: http://askubuntu.com/questions/383114/my-ubuntu-is-running-fsck-on-every-bootup08:28
cpaelzerbreezy_: and http://askubuntu.com/questions/761653/startup-problem-in-16-04-lts08:28
breezy_cpaelzer: i can't run ANY code08:29
breezy_the screen is simply black08:29
breezy_with that one line08:29
cpaelzerbreezy_: while it is doing the fs check08:29
cpaelzerbreezy_: that is blocking on boot to ensure fs integrity is ok08:29
breezy_how long should the fs check take08:30
breezy_i waited 15mins08:30
cpaelzerbreezy_: the solution is to find why it is doing that on every boot on your system08:30
breezy_but how08:30
cpaelzerbreezy_: depends on the amount and size and speed of the disk08:30
breezy_if i cant run any code08:30
breezy_im using a 750gb ssd08:30
cpaelzerbreezy_: for the how I'd start on the two links I sent08:30
breezy_cpaelzer: im new to ubuntu server i dont rly understand any of it08:30
cpaelzerbreezy_: if it is like "never" stopping - lets say an hour to be on the safe side you might run a CD/USB into recovery mode08:30
breezy_i bought a udemy tutorial and was trying to follow through08:31
cpaelzerbreezy_: to make it clear this is not the default behaviour - something lets your system assume it could be broken and it should check its filesystems08:31
breezy_last time i got into it but it shouldnt take more than 15mins for me to get into the command line?08:31
breezy_are u suggesting next time i wait longer08:31
cpaelzerbreezy_: wait longer and then debug why it is doing every boot following the links I sent08:31
breezy_ok08:31
cpaelzerbreezy_: if it never stops fall back to the recovery consoles you get out of the CD/USB media08:32
cpaelzerand then analyze08:32
breezy_fwiw, i dont have it on a separate partition i have it all on the hard drive wiped08:33
breezy_its weird i shouldnt have this bug after a clean install though right08:33
breezy_is it something to do with system compatibility?08:33
cpaelzerbreezy_: ack08:33
breezy_(using a laptop)08:33
breezy_cpaelzer i wiped all the partitions clean so there's no other OS on the harddrive08:34
cpaelzerbreezy_: depends on the case, I'd assume more of a misconfiguration or an aborted (or silentyl failing) install08:34
breezy_what about software install08:34
breezy_could that be the problem08:34
cpaelzerbreezy_: less likely imho08:34
breezy_ok08:35
cpaelzerbreezy_: more config in fstab/disk drivers/partitioning08:35
cpaelzerbreezy_: if you wipe it anyway just say yes to all the installer asks08:35
cpaelzerbreezy_: do not try to force it on one partition or so08:35
cpaelzerbreezy_: the default (according to its definition) is the most tested and thereby most stable08:35
cpaelzernacc: http://paste.ubuntu.com/23455067/08:35
breezy_so just use all defaults basically?08:36
breezy_ok makes sense08:36
cpaelzerbreezy_: yes08:36
breezy_i'll prob try another install08:36
breezy_thx cp08:36
cpaelzernacc: since the docu on the wiki is on the new one I thought to fetch new from git08:38
cpaelzernacc: for now I just assumed what is pushed is not intended to be complete08:38
cpaelzernacc: let me know if that is not true and I'll start help hacking fixes08:38
cpaelzernacc: but it seems more like a push of a 3/4 complete redesidn to the single usd tool08:39
cpaelzernacc: so I wait for your reply08:39

cpaelzernacc: ok so I'll refetch next time and see if all is ok then16:02

bananapieI have a new software raid array ( mirror 1 ). resync=DELAYED. Because it hasn't resynced. Given that I just wrote a brand new filesystem, is there any way to make it sync fasteR?19:38
stationld i use virtual machine on my server to have nextclou, i'm new to server, selfhosting19:44
stationthe vm is only ment for testing or can it alsow be deployt20:03
sarnoldstation: most of the modern internet runs entirely on VMs -- see AWS, GCE, etc. :)20:06
stationso if i share netwark to the vm dose it alsow have to deal with the firewall of the hostOS20:09
ddellavcoreycb: i pulled down pbr and added it to my ppa but I'm still getting the same version suffix error with keystone. Any ideas?20:26

bananapietop is showing a slow increase of memory ( every 30 minutes, another gigabyte is taken ). ps aux --sort --rss shows that none of my processes are changing significantly in their memory consumption.  slabtop says the kernel is using 99.2% of it's 578 mb of ram. So I have at least two gigabytes of memory that is unaccounted for21:56
bananapiehow do I find who is using the memory?21:57
tarpmanbananapie: cache? buffers? a tmpfs?21:57
bananapieI unmounted all the tmpfs other than /run, which says 1.1M out of 1.2G21:59
bananapie26644 buffers21:59
bananapie12292428 total,  6530716 used,  5761712 free \n  5410544 cached Mem21:59
bananapieok22:00
bananapielooks like it's the cached Mem22:00
bananapieI have had 9 OOM conditions on this machine today, which has caused data loss in MySQL server. So I thought it was happening again22:00
bananapiethanks :d22:00
bananapieI ran free && sync && echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches && free22:02
bananapieand it cleared up 5 gigs22:02
tarpmancached memory isn't a bad thing - it will be dropped instantly if anything actually needs it22:02
tarpmanyou want to look at the second line in free - the -/+ buffers/cache line22:03
bananapieI know it's a good thing. I just didn't realize it counted in used memory22:07
tarpmanhttp://www.linuxatemyram.com/ :)22:07
coreycbddellav, does that fix the 2 test failures?22:13
ddellavcoreycb i saw no test failures. Let me look again22:24
ddellavcoreycb builds without issue in zesty. Cannot build in xenial, missing coverage and pyldap deps22:36
ddellavand i did use the sbuild-ocata helper22:37
bananapiis there a way to build a new linux software array that doesn't require 'resync' ?22:50
