=== m0nkey__ is now known as m0nkey_ [08:21] Morning all [08:58] Morning all [09:10] Good morning all! Happy Friday, and happy Armistice Day! 😃 [09:24] JamesTait: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Dg-g7t2l4 but more important https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOgFZfRVaww and then finally https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8Vfp48laS8 [10:21] morning boys and girls. [10:55] Hi hi ^_^ [11:07] hello [11:16] I love how randomly my client has decided to show up your name in aubergine [11:16] * kvd figures out how to blame popey [11:16] is that good? [11:17] absolutely wonderful. [11:17] :) [11:17] ahem... [11:17] s/blame/praise/ [11:20] ofc [12:55] How can I remove or disable pulseaudio devices in the sound prefs? [12:56] I have a bunch of HDMI audio outputs that are not used but show up as selections whereas all I want is selected outputs on my soundcard + 1 USB output [12:57] THere used to be a hardware tab in the sound settings that let you do this but AFAICT Gnome removed it because it was useful to someone [13:01] :D [13:15] awilkins: use pavucontrol? [13:15] Doesn't make the devices disappear in sound prefs [13:16] shame [13:16] so is it solely that you don't want the long list to scroll through? [13:16] Yes [13:16] jeez [13:53] awilkins: take a look at /etc/pulse/default.pa and /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf [13:53] awilkins: don't know if they'll help [14:21] yoohoo knew of the hack back in 2014! http://www.macrumors.com/2016/11/11/filing-yahoo-aware-hack-2014/ [14:22] methinks the buyout is gonna fall flat [14:23] nasty [14:24] although i thought that was widely known [14:24] there's a note at the bottom of that article that verizon were asking for a 1bn discount, but I'm thinking that might go up [14:24] it wasn't known, but was suggested [14:38] i read something on the Tesco Bank one this morning, seems they're not sure on the method yet [14:59] right in the feels.. https://i.reddituploads.com/9c65a99fcdc446b29d4327bbb48af904?fit=max&h=1536&w=1536&s=1124d56624b483332e3ee94674a08160 [15:09] I like the concept behind this; it works for any kind of abusive harassment I would imagine. http://boingboing.net/2016/11/11/how-to-intervene-if-you-witnes.html [15:20] maybe you could just influence atmospheric attributes such that that guys lightning bolts no longer manifest [15:34] https://www.amazon.co.uk/Galaxy-Milk-Chocolate-Advent-Calendar/dp/B01KHDMW6E/ [15:35] crikey [17:36] http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/11/for-five-months-spotify-has-badly-abused-users-storage-drives/ [17:36] don't use streaming music services myself, but ouch [17:41] thank goodness i don't use ssd's OR spotify... :-P [17:41] but wow for abusing users hardware [17:42] well talk of SSD lifespans is always overblown - and you're the one suffering from not using one :) [17:43] i like my blinky leds... :-) [17:43] huh? were you under the impression that having one stops you from seeing a disk activity LED? [17:44] but it wouldn't flash pleasently for a long time if i used ssd! [17:44] that's the whole point of the benefit! [17:46] i'll stick with spinning rust for capacity... [17:46] and think of all the kids that will never know the joy of hearing the heads jump about the disk?! [17:47] but you don't need capacity for the OS and software... [17:47] it's how i know it's quiet at 3am when i can hear the hard drive in my laptop spinning [17:47] *sigh* ah well, can lead the horse to water... :D [17:48] i can hear the cat walk down the stairs at those times! [17:48] good luck installing an ssd in a horse :-D [17:48] hey it's easy, just the PETA folks chasing me to worry about [17:49] you should see the threats i got when i installed a full height 5.25" drive in a pony... :-P [17:50] NEIGH chance they said [17:57] well if anyone needs a suit for an interview in run up to christmas... :-P https://www.opposuits.ca/suits/christmas-suits.html [20:48] dang; http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/10653639/ron-dennis-fighting-for-mclaren-future [21:17] * zmoylan-pi resets dumbphone after some data went corrupt... first reset in 3 years... not too bad... [21:26] :-o [21:27] corruption is BAD! [21:44] thankfully i had a backup file from a few months back. i also made a backup of the corrupt data and i should be able to extract any missing data from the older backup from the newer one with a little care [21:50] but i actually reached for my spare even dumber nokia asha 201 just in case i couldn't make it work and found it had run flat as i left it on and not charging for a few months...
