[02:16] hey there, i have a little problem and just can't seem to find the answer to it... [02:17] wanted to install libimobiledevice to be able to sync my iphone with my laptop, but can't seem to come any closer to installing it [02:18] is there any "easy understandable" way to tell me how i can get the phone to work (music syncing) on the pc? [02:21] Burgersim:$ sudo apt-get installlibimobiledevice-utils [02:21] sry [02:21] Burgersim:$ sudo apt-get install libimobiledevice-utils [06:19] Hey guys what's the system specs? [06:21] Will it run amazingly on a Pentium dual core 1.86/87GHz 2gb ram 2007/8 Toshiba laptop? [07:05] FireStriker: Hey. You should be very happy with Xubuntu on that machine. [07:05] Ok [07:08] Sounds awesome [07:13] The slowest part is probably the 5400rpm HDD, which I assume that laptop has. But overall it should run smooth :) In the future you can upgrade RAM to 4 GB. [07:14] it's max is 2gb ram [07:15] Oh, ok. [07:15] The CPU is a T2390 [07:16] The modal which might say the drive number is Toshiba 200/m00 [07:16] Drive speed. [07:16] I am looking it up now [07:17] But It will be faster than old vista lol [07:17] Just try to not overload your browser with too many tabs at once, for example. [07:17] Yes, it should be faster than Vista ;) [07:17] Ik I try [07:18] You should of saw it on 1gb [07:18] It struggled with 1 tab [07:18] Xubuntu is a very good way to give your older laptop a new life. [07:19] How do you tell the speed of a HDd? [07:23] Well, I don't know any particular software to test it, but most of 2,5" laptop HDD's was 5400rpm. 7200rpm were in "business class" laptops like ThinkPad, Latitude or Portege. [07:24] True [07:24] Should it say on the drive lol [07:25] Sometimes it does. [07:26] I have a PS3 drive in my room that came out of my dead PS3 but I don't know what speed it is. But it being an old pc I think the drive in it should do just fine plus it an upgrade that wouldn't be used to max portent [07:29] Yeah, that shouldn't be a problem at all. What version are you installing? LTS or 16.10? [07:30] LTS [07:30] That drive doesn't sound the happiest atm lol it made a noise at me. That or the blind taped it [07:31] Idk [07:31] Could of been the aircon for all I know lol [07:32] How are you Spass [07:35] Been better, but OK, thanks. And you? [07:36] I'm good working on 2 laptops that are literally killing me but alright [07:36] Lol [07:37] It could be a struggle sometimes, true. [07:39] When you need a computer for school and your laptop of 3 years starts to fall t bits it becomes hard not going for enother hp lol. This Toshiba has become my project [07:39] And it runs better than the hp ATM [07:41] It's been running 7 but because I can't find the drivers I'm switching it to Linux (Toshiba) [07:45] What's this mean [07:46] http://i.imgur.com/hmJfZP0.jpg [07:46] Is that good? [07:46] My Toshiba Satellite L300 (Intel Celeron, 2GB) runs to this time, very good piece of hardware, really. And it was very cheap when I bought it for my girlfriend's son for school. [07:47] Currently my mother uses it. It looks like new :) [07:47] How old is it? [07:51] 2009 I think. When this occurs? After this it boots normally? [07:53] Booted the USB not even installed yet [07:53] Before the live cd option [07:53] Oh it's back [07:53] It was taking a while [07:54] I'm not an expert, but it doesn't look any worrying. Should be fine after installation. [07:54] Ok [07:55] I am kinda stepping out of my comfort zone with this computer now [07:55] I'm trying to install 64bit when all I have been doing is 32but [07:55] But [07:55] Bit [07:55] Stupid autocorrect [08:02] The worst that could happen is it say oii that's a 32bit computer right [08:04] http://ark.intel.com/products/35153/ [08:05] I checked that when you mentioned you're installing 64-bit version. [08:07] Why doesn't Microsoft make windows live cds that would make installing windows a little easier and you could check out the new OS [08:08] They should rly do that for win11/12/whatever they might call it [08:10] They assume you think that Windows is the only OS for your PC, so why wasting time checking it? You must install it nonetheless, because it's "your only option". [08:10] "Just do it!" [08:12] True lol [08:17] I'm going afk if your on when I get back I will tell you how it went [08:20] OK :) [10:27] Hi spass I'm back it compleated [10:27] I am now rebooting it [10:43] FireStriker: Is everything working fine? [10:45] I think so looks good [10:48] Don't know about audio drive tho [10:49] Need to do a better test that a movie on a USB that I don't know how good it was in the first place lol [10:51] Tested it it sounds all good [10:56] Pulled out brain power [10:56] And it didn't 'BSoD' on me [10:57] '' bc it doesn't blue screens it's audio gets messed up [10:57] And it sounds like a bsod [10:59] Running smoother and looks and feels better than lubuntu [10:59] Which I had as a duel boot for a moth on this computer [11:02] Good to hear. [14:12] hello linux newb here. anyone familiar with AMD GPU drivers === Zren_ is now known as Zren [15:30] s === Zren_ is now known as Zren === malysps is now known as Spass [20:27] Can anyone help with a Xubuntu 16.04 installation issue? [20:31] if you tell us your issue "anybody" might be able to assess if she or he can help you [20:37] Have produced image DVD from Xubuntu-16.04 and -1 desktop-i386.iso. Tried both but got same problem which is no text on the xubuntu/Xface desktop screen, though I see a dialog box with active scroll and buttons etc. [20:37] Suspect a display driver problem with View Sonic monitor [20:39] The machine normally runs XP pro and I have a blank partition ready for xubuntu install [20:40] graphics card? [20:41] Maybe, will need to check my manuals to find out what type. Is that what you are asking for? [20:42] yes [20:43] Please standby - looking ... [20:44] Looks like XFX GEForce 8500 GT 256 MB PCI. The MOB is Intel D975XBX2 Extreme Series [20:45] Its a fairly old machine ~ 2007 vintage [20:46] Memory is 2Gb RAM [20:55] xubuntu77w, when desktop is already started, or when you are in the menu/dialog for selecting language and if to install or try live? [20:56] Here's the boot sequence which ends with the first dialog box/desktop features I see agains the 'blue wave' screen: [20:57] After bios boot: I get -2 000.01:00 disp comm 01.0130 func 08 lookup failed followd by four SRST failed (error=-16 mesages) [20:58] Then Xubuntu banner screen with rotating dial and mouse log. After that a blank blue wave screen . [20:58] Finally a dialog box and some buttons (row of 8 along the bottom with #1 highlighted blue), a vertical scroll bar, and my mouse cursor, which I can use to move the dialog box window around. [20:59] Since there is no text displayed, I have no clue what those features offer, and I dont want to click on one, and do something studpid to my system! [21:02] xubuntu77w, try pressing ESC at the banner screen afaik an alternative menu should appear instead of this box dialog [21:02] OK, Will that alternative menu be another desktop menu or a b&w command screen (Run/DOS window?) [21:04] nope, it's the former mouse and keyboard driven dialog used before this new dialog was introduced [21:05] OK, but unfortunately I will have to kill this session(in XP Pro) to try that, so can you tell me a bit about [21:05] what to expect from that menu, if it works - I will fire up a lop top for the chat session after trying that. [21:06] xubuntu77w, just select language and keyboard layout an "Try Xubuntu w/o installing" [21:07] Ok, Will do. Thanks very much for your guidance. I will also try to register for the IRC (just took the default on entry). [21:09] I will be trekker425 or some such. [21:10] kk [21:26] guys, where can i ask about default color in midnight commander? in xubuntu 12 it's quite beautiful, in 16.10 it,s default blue background and so on [21:32] hhee1, Options → Appearance [21:32] Trekker425 here (previously xubuntu62w in dialog with mrkramps. [21:32] mrkramps, got it, thx [21:33] I tried ESC to old dialog box, but no joy. Reduced functionality compared with standard one. [21:34] ESC showed me the xubuntu boot script which showed some errors, but also loaded tons of services before showing me the Xubuntu banner page, from which I escaped. [21:35] Still no text on desktop [21:35] and if it asked for language and testing without install I would not know it. [21:38] help [21:39] help how do i get a flash player onto my system [21:40] xubuntu64w, sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-addons [21:40] trekker425, i am sorry, i have absolutely no idea how to handle those nvidia graphics issues [21:42] OK, Thanks for trying. Maybe I will try a different ubuntu version or another distro. [21:42] trekker425, https://askubuntu.com/questions/612186/no-text-displayed-for-the-installer-while-attempting-to-install-to-macbook-pro-1 [21:43] Mr K Ramps it says unable to locate package [21:43] last comment should work for u [21:43] xubuntu64w, your ubuntu version? [21:44] ubuntu 16.4 [21:45] multiverse repository enabled?
