daftykinso017:26
daftykinswhy not a delightfully cross-platform FS? :)17:26
lotuspsychjewell alot of customers i know still use win boxes17:27
lotuspsychjeand the 4gig limit of fat32 i dont like17:27

BluesKajnope, back to konversation17:29
lotuspsychjelol17:29
daftykinsexFAT works just dandy though :>17:31
lotuspsychjedaftykins: does all usb drives support it?17:32
daftykinsdon't need hardware support for a file system, as that's only logical access17:33
OerHeksheya lotus :-D17:33
lotuspsychjehey hey OerHeks17:34
OerHeksand daftykins ofcourse17:34
lotuspsychjeOerHeks: hows the seeding going?17:34
lotuspsychjewho won the battle?17:34
OerHeksoh, stopped seeding a week ago, lubuntu and xubunto are in the top 317:34
lotuspsychjenicely17:34
daftykins:D17:35
daftykinsi've seen some stuff i seed go at my new speed of 1.1MB/sec, it's ace :D17:35
lotuspsychjelubuntu 16.04 is fantastic for sure17:35
lotuspsychje!budgie17:37
BluesKajmy findings are that 16.10 is more stable than 16,04 ...maybe it;s the KDE/plasma DE at fault in my case, not sure17:44
lotuspsychjeBluesKaj: alot of good things we here of 16.10 kernel17:46
lotuspsychje*hear17:47

daftykinshrmm gonna be April 2018 before i care again ;D18:08
nicomach1sanyone used 32 bit *buntu lately?18:12
daftykinswhat's up?18:13
nicomach1sdoes it even exist still?18:13
daftykinsyep still alive18:13
nicomach1strying to install a VM on this new work PC so I can actually get some stuff done instead of using Windows all day, but I can't get to the BIOS to enable vt-d, so I have to use a 32-bit OS... as far as I can tell18:13
daftykinsis the host OS 32-bit?18:14
nicomach1sno. 64 bit Windows 718:14
daftykinsi always thought it could only virt the same arch on the guest18:14
daftykinswithout the function, i mean18:15
nicomach1s/¯_(ツ)_/¯18:15
daftykinsso what's actually happening?18:15
nicomach1sit just won't let me select a 64 bit option in vbox.18:15
nicomach1sand wouldn't let me boot a 64 bit iso18:15
daftykinsis it just locked down by your workplace for the BIOS access bit?18:16
nicomach1sI think the only issue I'd have with 32 bit is Chrome, because they stopped maintaining 32 bit, but I don't need Chrome for it. I can use the browser on the host OS18:16
nicomach1sdaftykins: yea. Haven't actually tried, but I'm almost sure that accessing the BIOS would get some sysadmin somewhere verrry upset with me.18:16
daftykinsi find it a bit shocking you can't just tame Windows to your liking :>18:16
daftykinser well why don't you just ask for it to be switched on?18:17
nicomach1sthe people that make those decisions are very far away from where I am.18:17
daftykinsstill, i think it better to pick up the phone and try before messing about too much18:18
daftykinsanywho yeah no VT-d is no doubt why it's 32-bit only18:22
daftykinsso i guess it's the other way around, can't do 64 on a 6418:22
nicomach1smeh, I may call18:22
daftykinsi mean if the work you want to do is pretty intensive on resources, then it's going to be so much slower virting 32-bit18:23
nicomach1sit's not. mostly just irssi. haha18:23
daftykinswat18:23
nicomach1s99% of it's use will be just SSH'ing to my home PC18:23
daftykinsand KiTTY isn't good enough?18:24
nicomach1sI'd rather just tunnel into my screen session. and then be able to access all the media and docs on that PC too.18:24
daftykinsright, with WinSCP18:25
daftykinssure it's not exactly native when under Windows, but it's super duper easy to the point where running an entire other OS solely to get to things is a bit extreme18:25
daftykinsi mean, i'm typing from irssi right now from a Windows box - via SSH in KiTTY18:26
nicomach1syea but I don't know how to use windows. lol18:27
daftykinsXD18:28
daftykinsi didn't wanna infer it but... ;)18:28
daftykinsit's handy to be able to get a few things done across each of the main OSs18:28
nicomach1sI can get a few things done on Windows, but the command line is just... different.18:29
nicomach1sI like my bash terminals.18:29
daftykinswell sure, but that's where PuTTY and KiTTY come in18:29
daftykinsi prefer the latter since it does URL parsing, so i can still click links in irssi here on Windows18:29
nicomach1slike, right now I can't figure out how to safely remove my external HDD18:30
daftykinslittle green icon in the system tray, you ideally want to go into the taskbar properties and disable any icon hiding in the tray18:30
nicomach1sI click on it and nothing happens though. right or left click.18:30
daftykinswell, personal preference that bit18:30
daftykinswell it would come up with a list of devices that can be safely removed if any are available18:31
daftykinsif it doesn't present as one, e.g. like a phone over MTP, then it wouldn't be there18:31
daftykinsactually that might be a bad example - can't remember if the 5x comes up as safely removable when over MTP regardless18:31
nicomach1sman I hate windows.18:32
daftykinsno, you hate being out of your depth :)18:33
nicomach1slol18:33
nicomach1sis there a CLI way of doing this?18:33
nicomach1sumount or something?18:33
daftykinsdo you get any option on the context menu of this drive in the 'computer' view?18:33
daftykinshonestly not seen an external drive behave like this before, is it just USB 2.0 / 3.0 ?18:33
nicomach1sIt's 3.018:34
daftykinsyou could always remove the drive letter allocation from disk management, super+R -> diskmgmt.msc18:34
daftykinsthat'd be as good as unmounting18:34
nicomach1sand it shows it as E: in the My Computer view18:34
daftykinsso nothing on the context menu there huh?18:34
nicomach1sit's weird because it looks like there's some ghost icons in the system tray: http://i.imgur.com7AKl3x.jpg18:37
daftykinsdead link even with the slash put in?18:39
Bashing-omMeanwhile, the sage continues ? Bacckkkk after my bit of R&R .18:42
daftykinswb sir! how are you today?18:45
nicomach1sdaftykins: sorry. http://i.imgur.com/7AFKl3x.jpg18:46
daftykinsnicomach1s: ah, probably more a symptom of being attached to a corporate domain18:46
daftykinsonly time i've seen that it's been one or two - and either a broken program or they've disappeared on hover18:47
Bashing-omdaftykins: I am well, cuase I am here .. you ?18:50
daftykinsBashing-om: :D excellent, yep i'm great! the guy just came to take all my donations so it is done at last \o/19:13

Bashing-om!info linux-image-generic xenial20:12
ubot5`linux-image-generic (source: linux-meta): Generic Linux kernel image. In component main, is optional. Version 4.4.0.47.50 (xenial), package size 2 kB, installed size 12 kB20:12
nicomach1sdaftykins: I think I killed windows.20:49
nicomach1sI had my External HDD plugged in when I rebooted and forgot it had a bootable iso on it on a small partition... so the PC tried to boot that. I hit the power button, and then unplugged the HDD. Now Windows is trying to do "Startup Repair" :(20:51
nicomach1sah, it's booting again.20:56
Bashing-omnicomach1s: Had a similar experience yesterday with my daughter's laptop .. 5 hours later to get it restored - I do not do Windows ( how many times do I have to say that >) . Next time she will get (L)ubuntu back !21:02
