znfHello.01:49
znfHow would I change the ethernet address (mac address) on a ubuntu server 16.04?01:50
znfI tried the "old" way of passing hwaddress ether in /etc/network/interfaces under the specific ethernet port, but that just left me with an unaccesible box01:50
znfnow I need to do it on a 2nd server, and I'm kind of scared to try the same thing01:51
NickNackNameHi everyone! I am having an issue that is preventing server 16.04.1 from starting on my ThinkServer RS210. I believe it might be an issue with it's older uEFI, but I see no option to enable legacy BIOS only. 14.04 works perfectly, as well as Proxmox 3.3. I was wondering if anyone had success running 16.04 on this model of server, or had any pointers to help diagnose the issue. Thank you.01:57
sarnoldNickNackName: was this an upgrade from a working 14.04? or a fresh installation? (I'm not sure which I would expect to work better, I'd really expect both to be fine..)02:01
sarnoldNickNackName: what happens when it tries to boot?02:02
NickNackNameI tried both fresh and upgrade. When it tries to boot, it gets to the HDD and just restarts like a boot manager is not installed.02:02
NickNackName(Yes, I selected install grub to the correct disk on install.) I've tried with an external boot manager (grub on a USB) and selected "boot from first hdd" and the same behavior occurs.02:03
NickNackNamesarnold: Any ideas?02:39

fluvvellI'm trouble shooting a zone transfer issue between two ubuntu servers, I can manually force the transfer by restarting bind on the slave, but its getting denied when the master restarts03:55
fluvvellallow-transfer seems to be ok, its set to the ip of the master03:55
patdk-lapfluvvell, that seems backwards04:13
fluvvellpatdk-lap, tell me about it04:14
patdk-lapwhy would you allow-transfer to the master? the master is the master04:14
fluvvellwait04:15
fluvvellI've mis-typed,04:15
fluvvellallow transfer is set on the master to the ip of the slave04:16
patdk-lapboth ipv4 and ipv6 addresses?04:16
fluvvelland on the slave, the master is listed correctly as the ip of the master04:16
fluvvellonly ipv404:16
fluvvellbut restarting the master does not push updates out to the slave. Should it?04:18
patdk-lapno04:18
patdk-lapwhy should it?04:18
patdk-lapthe slave only requests them, to make sure it's not outdated when it starts04:19
fluvvellbecause I've update it04:19
patdk-lapthe master has no idea what the slave has, or cares04:19
patdk-lapyou restarted the master though, how does it know?04:19
fluvvelloooh oh.04:19
patdk-lapyou did use nsupdate to update it right?04:19
patdk-lapand you do have notify turned on?04:19
patdk-lapyou do not just EDIT the files, use nsupdate04:19
patdk-lapnot if you want it to notify your slaves04:20
fluvvellI've just been reading about notify04:20
fluvvellIt would appear not.04:20
fluvvelloh, nsupdate.04:20
fluvvellwow, I've hand edited for years.04:22
fluvvell{bow} thank you, reading https://debian-administration.org/article/591/Using_the_dynamic_DNS_editor_nsupdate04:22
fluvvellnow04:22
fluvvellpatdk-lap, where does notify go ?04:24
fluvvellI was reading about allow-notify, which is not what I'm wanting is it?04:24
patdk-lapallow-notify goes in the slaves04:25
patdk-lapthen notify yes, in the master04:26
fluvvellI'm pretty much using the same two nameservers for all my zones, can it be in the opening stanza rather than in each zone?04:27
patdk-lapyes04:27
fluvvellwarnings in the nsupdate manual about not editing by hand... am I going to screw up if I switch to nsupdate?04:30
fluvvellI mean when04:30

coreycbjamespage, zul:  i'm starting to wonder if we should backport debhelper 10 to the ocata uca12:38
zulcoreycb: it probably would make life easier for us12:39
zulcoreycb: btw happy birthday ;)12:39
coreycbzul, oh thanks :)12:39
coreycbzul, ok going to try backporting that12:43
zulcoreycb: do it locally first just in case things dont blow up12:43
coreycbzul, it'll land in the staging ppa first so it's sort of a testing grounds anyway12:44
zulcoreycb: im going to spend some time to  get things updated again and make sure things are deployable12:46
coreycbzul, going to start some early testing with the charms?12:47
zulcoreycb: yep12:48

rbasakcpaelzer: you're welcome! I've also been working on the strongswan review. I've done one pass badly. Now I'm figuring out a better process to do merge reviews and then I'll do it again :-)14:16

coreycbzul, jamespage going to try testing with compressor 2.1 first15:05
rbasakcpaelzer: the strongswan merge is spread out across 9 terminal windows, 4 editor buffers in 3 editor windows using all six of my monitors! :-/15:35

mdeslaurrbasak: losing the delta seems like a sane thing to do15:51

coreycbzul, you can just ask your question :)18:05
zulcoreycb: its more of a thought than a question...since you backported debhelper this morning it makes sense to bump xenial compat levels in the openstack packages on zesty so things can get built again18:06
zul:)18:07
coreycbzul, i dropped all the ca-patches that lowered debhelper <= 918:07
coreycbzul, so either we can rebuild them if they have issues now, or next time they get backported they'll use debhelper 10.2.218:08
zulcoreycb: yeah but im seeting stuff like this http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23518079/18:09
coreycbzul, hmm apache2-dev and dh-systemd weren't patched in ca-patches18:11

showaznacc: yes /var/www/* destroy permission owners group/user root dir, its need reconstruct on the basis of *.deb21:59
