MrCanoeheadHello?02:14
anpanHello, using lubuntu 16.04 here. Since I updated the packages yesterday, I am unable to boot normally into lubuntu (screen stays black). If I boot into recovery and then select "resume boot" I can enter the passwords for my encrypted SSD and HDDs and log in, but all system dialogs and texts are incredibly small (cant read the text in lxterminal for instance)10:27
anpanany suggestions how I can find out what went wrong? it's a bit difficult without a readable console available10:27
anpanIts also not showing me the task-bar that's usually at the top10:28
anpanselecting the previous kernel in grub also didn't help10:29
anpanokay I have narrowed down the Problem now: I have to boot with "nomodeset" or else the screen will stay black. If I execute "modprobe radeon modeset=1", the screen will turn black and I have to reboot. dmesg | egrep 'drm|radeon' says something about UMS not being supported. It was working fine yesterday though11:21
anpanI tried searching for that error, but came up with nothing that helped. I don't know what to do anymore11:21
anpanit only find one of my two connected screens right now, too11:22
anpanand as I said before, the system menu fonts are incredibly small and I cant read them anymore11:23
Guest34433I have a Lubuntu 14.04.4-64.How to turn off auto log on?15:06
tursiopsHello everyone16:42
tursiopsi-ve now tried to install lutuntu several times but each time it crashes at the installation. It says it reports bugs automatically, but i still would like to know if there is way to know what-s wrong16:44
tursiopsthe regular ubuntu installation works fine16:44
wxltursiops: how did you install?16:44
tursiopscreated a live cd downloaded from the website16:44
wxlok great16:44
tursiopsthe live cd part works16:44
wxldid you check the hashes of the iso you downloaded?16:45
tursiopsnope, but i noticed that you can check the disc for defects at boot16:45
tursiopsshould i do that16:45
wxlyou should really do both16:45
wxl1 single bit of difference can lead to all sorts of strange problems16:45
tursiopsok let me redownload then16:46
tursiopscan i burn a cd while being on the live cd or should i use anothe computer16:46
wxlyou should be able to. it will just, in general, be slow.16:47
tursiopsok im in no hurry16:47
tursiopsanother general question, where does bugs go when they are automatically sent from the installer16:48
tursiopsjust for my curiosity16:48
wxldepends on the nature of the situation16:48
tursiopsok understand16:49
wxlbut usually launchpad is the place where bug reports live16:49
wxlif a dump is involved (often the case with a true crash), the bug will be marked private initially16:49
wxlyou might find errors.ubuntu.com interesting16:49
tursiopsok, where is the hash from the file on lubuntu, i only can find the link to download but no hash16:50
wxlwhere did you find the link?16:50
tursiopson lubuntu.net16:51
wxlwell, for one, lubuntu.net is not the official website16:51
wxllubuntu.me is16:51
tursiopsok... well thats the first website that comes up when typing lubuntu on google...16:52
wxlwell if you search on duck duck go you'll find it's not the official one16:52
wxlbut tl;dr16:52
wxlyou can go here to get the release and the hashes are there too http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/16:53
tursiopsok cancelled that download, retrying on the official site16:53
wxlthey all point to the same place in the end16:53
wxlalthough the lubuntu.net is outdated16:53
tursiopsok thanks i ll wait for it to finish downloading and then check the hash burn it and try again16:55
wxlif you still have problems, come back and let us know what version you're on and the specific nature of the crash and we'll go from there. i haven't seen this in the wild so i suspect it's a download and/or copying error (fairly common actually)16:55
lynorianburning a live cd while on a live cd would require 2 cd drives16:56
wxloh hahahah yeah that's right XD XD XD16:56
tursiopsooooh... ok then i ll have to turn off the live cd and then use another computer to burn it16:57
wxlor use a usb16:57
tursiopsor can i mount the iso and launch the install that way16:57
tursiopsok hash is good, creating usb key now17:03
tursiopsmaybe see you later...17:04
tursiopsHello its me again..17:17
tursiopsits a problem with ubiquity it seems17:17
tursiopsshould i send you some logs, im in the var log folder right now17:18
wxlso you checked the hashes of the iso and the image itself when you booted it?17:18
tursiopsyes17:18
wxlwhat version we talking about?17:18
tursiopsthe last one 16.1017:18
wxlwhat error did you see?17:19
tursiopswhen i tried to create the portitions with lvm it crashed17:19
wxlah lvm17:19
tursiopssaying an error with ubiquity and to check the var log folder17:19
wxli seem to remember an error with ubiquity and lvm. lynorian do you remember such a thing?17:20
tursiopsif i try to install without lvm it works, but then it crashes at the install part17:20
lynorianwxl vaguely17:20
wxldid you try without lvm on this new disc?17:20
tursiopsyes it goes further17:21
tursiopsbut then it starts to install17:21
tursiopsand crashes there17:21
wxldefine crash17:21
wxlwhat specific errors?17:21
tursiopsthe message says that the installer crashed and that it will be reported to the bug system17:21
wxlbah17:22
wxlis there an ubiquity log or folder in /var/log?17:22
wxlhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/143596017:22
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1435960 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "fails on system install, while partitioning disks with LVM" [High,Confirmed]17:22
wxlyou might want to leave a comment on that saying you experienced the same problem on 16.1017:22
tursiopsi see xorg and syslog and a bunch of other logs17:23
tursiopsbut no one called ubiquity17:23
wxlk check out the end of syslog and see if there's anything telling there17:24
tursiopsyeah lots of error saying all pretty much the same17:26
tursiopsError retrieving chunk extents17:26
wxlwhy don't you pastebin the entirety of the log?17:26
wxlthe system might let you install pastebinit which will make it easy17:26
tursiopsok how do you pastebin, never done that before17:27
wxlsudo apt install pastebinit && cat /var/log/syslog | pastebinit17:27
wxlit will return a url17:27
tursiopshttp://paste.ubuntu.com/23538617/17:29
tursiopshttp://paste.ubuntu.com/23538617/17:29
tursiopshttp://paste.ubuntu.com/23538617/17:29
lynorianwxl know if this affects debian installer images?17:29
wxllynorian: no that would be good to check17:29
tursiopsive tried with a regular ubuntu iso and it works just fine17:29
tursiopswith lvm and all17:29
wxltursiops: thanks. we can look at that. meanwhile, to get you going, i'd get the alternate installer17:29
tursiopsok i ll do that then17:30
tursiopsif its any help im using a asus e200ha17:30
