[02:14] Hello? [10:27] Hello, using lubuntu 16.04 here. Since I updated the packages yesterday, I am unable to boot normally into lubuntu (screen stays black). If I boot into recovery and then select "resume boot" I can enter the passwords for my encrypted SSD and HDDs and log in, but all system dialogs and texts are incredibly small (cant read the text in lxterminal for instance) [10:27] any suggestions how I can find out what went wrong? it's a bit difficult without a readable console available [10:28] Its also not showing me the task-bar that's usually at the top [10:29] selecting the previous kernel in grub also didn't help [11:21] okay I have narrowed down the Problem now: I have to boot with "nomodeset" or else the screen will stay black. If I execute "modprobe radeon modeset=1", the screen will turn black and I have to reboot. dmesg | egrep 'drm|radeon' says something about UMS not being supported. It was working fine yesterday though [11:21] I tried searching for that error, but came up with nothing that helped. I don't know what to do anymore [11:22] it only find one of my two connected screens right now, too [11:23] and as I said before, the system menu fonts are incredibly small and I cant read them anymore [15:06] I have a Lubuntu 14.04.4-64.How to turn off auto log on? [16:42] Hello everyone [16:44] i-ve now tried to install lutuntu several times but each time it crashes at the installation. It says it reports bugs automatically, but i still would like to know if there is way to know what-s wrong [16:44] the regular ubuntu installation works fine [16:44] tursiops: how did you install? [16:44] created a live cd downloaded from the website [16:44] ok great [16:44] the live cd part works [16:45] did you check the hashes of the iso you downloaded? [16:45] nope, but i noticed that you can check the disc for defects at boot [16:45] should i do that [16:45] you should really do both [16:45] 1 single bit of difference can lead to all sorts of strange problems [16:46] ok let me redownload then [16:46] can i burn a cd while being on the live cd or should i use anothe computer [16:47] you should be able to. it will just, in general, be slow. [16:47] ok im in no hurry [16:48] another general question, where does bugs go when they are automatically sent from the installer [16:48] just for my curiosity [16:48] depends on the nature of the situation [16:49] ok understand [16:49] but usually launchpad is the place where bug reports live [16:49] if a dump is involved (often the case with a true crash), the bug will be marked private initially [16:49] you might find errors.ubuntu.com interesting [16:50] ok, where is the hash from the file on lubuntu, i only can find the link to download but no hash [16:50] where did you find the link? [16:51] on lubuntu.net [16:51] well, for one, lubuntu.net is not the official website [16:51] lubuntu.me is [16:52] ok... well thats the first website that comes up when typing lubuntu on google... [16:52] well if you search on duck duck go you'll find it's not the official one [16:52] but tl;dr [16:53] you can go here to get the release and the hashes are there too http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/ [16:53] ok cancelled that download, retrying on the official site [16:53] they all point to the same place in the end [16:53] although the lubuntu.net is outdated [16:55] ok thanks i ll wait for it to finish downloading and then check the hash burn it and try again [16:55] if you still have problems, come back and let us know what version you're on and the specific nature of the crash and we'll go from there. i haven't seen this in the wild so i suspect it's a download and/or copying error (fairly common actually) [16:56] burning a live cd while on a live cd would require 2 cd drives [16:56] oh hahahah yeah that's right XD XD XD [16:57] ooooh... ok then i ll have to turn off the live cd and then use another computer to burn it [16:57] or use a usb [16:57] or can i mount the iso and launch the install that way [17:03] ok hash is good, creating usb key now [17:04] maybe see you later... [17:17] Hello its me again.. [17:17] its a problem with ubiquity it seems [17:18] should i send you some logs, im in the var log folder right now [17:18] so you checked the hashes of the iso and the image itself when you booted it? [17:18] yes [17:18] what version we talking about? [17:18] the last one 16.10 [17:19] what error did you see? [17:19] when i tried to create the portitions with lvm it crashed [17:19] ah lvm [17:19] saying an error with ubiquity and to check the var log folder [17:20] i seem to remember an error with ubiquity and lvm. lynorian do you remember such a thing? [17:20] if i try to install without lvm it works, but then it crashes at the install part [17:20] wxl vaguely [17:20] did you try without lvm on this new disc? [17:21] yes it goes further [17:21] but then it starts to install [17:21] and crashes there [17:21] define crash [17:21] what specific errors? [17:21] the message says that the installer crashed and that it will be reported to the bug system [17:22] bah [17:22] is there an ubiquity log or folder in /var/log? [17:22] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1435960 [17:22] Launchpad bug 1435960 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "fails on system install, while partitioning disks with LVM" [High,Confirmed] [17:22] you might want to leave a comment on that saying you experienced the same problem on 16.10 [17:23] i see xorg and syslog and a bunch of other logs [17:23] but no one called ubiquity [17:24] k check out the end of syslog and see if there's anything telling there [17:26] yeah lots of error saying all pretty much the same [17:26] Error retrieving chunk extents [17:26] why don't you pastebin the entirety of the log? [17:26] the system might let you install pastebinit which will make it easy [17:27] ok how do you pastebin, never done that before [17:27] sudo apt install pastebinit && cat /var/log/syslog | pastebinit [17:27] it will return a url [17:29] http://paste.ubuntu.com/23538617/ [17:29] http://paste.ubuntu.com/23538617/ [17:29] http://paste.ubuntu.com/23538617/ [17:29] wxl know if this affects debian installer images? [17:29] lynorian: no that would be good to check [17:29] ive tried with a regular ubuntu iso and it works just fine [17:29] with lvm and all [17:29] tursiops: thanks. we can look at that. meanwhile, to get you going, i'd get the alternate installer [17:30] ok i ll do that then [17:30] if its any help im using a asus e200ha === g2 is now known as g2[GaTech] === g2[GaTech] is now known as g2[GT] === g2[GT] is now known as g2 [20:41] Hello Everyone, im back with news [20:41] i managed to install the alternate version [20:42] but now it doesn-t seem to take into account my keyboard locale, even if it changed it === g2 is now known as g2[AU] === g2[AU] is now known as g2
