daftykinstempted to pop in the local HMV to see if anything is going on09:16
SuperMattHMV? What is this strange acronym seemingly from a bygone era?09:16
daftykins:) they set up here and used to ship out back when there was tax relief on postings up to England, but had to move once that loophole got closed09:17
daftykinsthe shop stayed open because apparently it was one of the chains top performers from across the whole company09:17
SuperMattIf there's one thing I want in the black friday sales is a new vacuum cleaner09:21
daftykinshttp://go.linuxfoundation.org/cyber-monday-201609:21

diploMorning all09:22
JamesTaitGood morning all! Happy Monday, and happy Make Your Own Head Day! 😃09:40
TwistedLuciditySuperMatt: Best deals are around Dec 18th (average 17% off). Black Friday has an average 5% off. It's a marketing scam.09:45
xnoxi got dyson before christmas time for "half price" a few years back09:46
TwistedLucidityWe have a Dyson. Then we got a Husky. Now we need more Dysons!09:47
xnox /o\09:48

zmoylan-piyou're going to need a bigger dyson... ;-p11:18
davmor2zmoylan-pi: they did a washing machine once would that be big enough?11:47
Laneyvacuum cleaner chat12:03

JamesTaitdavmor2, something about making your own head.12:22
davmor2JamesTait: oh that's dangerous12:23
JamesTaitYou're telling me!12:23
JamesTaitMine has enough bugs as it is, without me reinventing it.12:23
davmor2JamesTait: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdLIerfXuZ4 think that should cover it right12:28
diddledandaftykins: that's an expensive t-shirt (ref: http://go.linuxfoundation.org/cyber-monday-2016)13:30
diddledanat least you get a freebie course to go with it13:32
zmoylan-pibut real linux geeks will know how much you paid for it...13:32
diddledannah, only corporate linuxers will - those courses don't make "real" linux geeks13:32
TwistedLucidityWhy would I want to give my money to a trade association raking it in from Oracle, MS etc? Seems to me, community member should support the community. Y'know, that thing the Foundation blocked from being on the board.13:35
diddledanI don't get what the foundation is supposed to provide to the linux world13:36
zmoylan-picorporate legitimacy13:36
zmoylan-piit's not just a bunch of neckbeards typing code in their mothers basement13:37
diddledanbut neckbeards in the mom's basements are the ones who are the most important13:38
diddledantheir*13:38
TwistedLucidityNot to the lawyers and accountants. The beard is just a cost centre waiting to be outsourced.13:39
diddledan:-(13:39
* diddledan will have to shave13:40
diddledan:-(13:40
zmoylan-piAND wear a suit13:41
diddledanoh god13:41
diddledanI refuse to work anywhere that I'm required to wear a suit13:41
* zmoylan-pi breaks out the chocolate hobnobs (non generic) to coax diddledan out from under desk13:41
* diddledan pokes his head out with his nose twitching13:41
TwistedLuciditydiddledan: Well, that's you excldued from all the main consultancies then.13:42
TwistedLuciditySome are incredibly strict13:43
diddledan>.<13:43
TwistedLucidityI used to work for one, not any more.13:43
TwistedLucidityNow I work from home. Clothing optional.13:43
diddledan\o/13:44
diddledanworking from home is awesome13:44
zmoylan-pithat'll stop people hacking his webcam... twice...13:45
TwistedLucidityI really need to pull my finger our and reclaim money from HMRC13:45
TwistedLucidity*out13:45
TwistedLucidityIIRC you can get ~£18pcm back.13:45
TwistedLuciditySomething like that anyway13:45
diddledano_O13:45
diddledanreally?13:46
TwistedLucidityYeah. For heating, lighting etc13:46
diddledanaah13:46
diddledanyeah I think I knew about that13:46
zmoylan-pido tux figurines justify a claim as they are religious icons? :-)13:47
TwistedLucidityUnfortunately not, Linux actually exists13:48
zmoylan-pibah ::switches back to invisible pink unicorn who's figures are very pricey::13:51
dogmatic69is it possible to remote desktop on unity yet?15:13
diddledandogmatic69: unity7 or 8, client or server?15:14
dogmatic69whatever 16.04 is15:14
dogmatic69and 16.04 <-> 16.04 I want to remote with15:14
diddledanyes that'll work15:15
SuperMattVNC has been possible for ages15:15
SuperMattas well as X forwarding15:15
dogmatic69it totally has not, prev I have had to install xbuntu or something because unity would not work15:15
diddledanSuperMatt: I think dogmatic69 is referring to the issue a few releases ago where vnc wouldn't show the composited desktop15:15
SuperMattoh right15:15
SuperMattI had no idea15:15
diddledanvnc would connect but you'd see nada15:16
dogmatic69ye, you would log in and have a black screen15:16
diddledanyeah, dogmatic69, I think that's working now15:16
SuperMattI gave up on vnc and remote desktop a long time ago15:16
dogmatic69diddledan: so I have remmana on the client, what should I install for the host?15:16
diddledanat least on 16.04 iirc15:16
diddledanuse the default one, in the dash it's under "screen sharing" I think15:17
diddledanand yes, use remmina as the client15:17
dogmatic69cool, I will try that15:17
diddledanthe advantage of the default vnc server is that it'll autostart without any further fiddling once you've toggled the switch, but it does require your session to be logged-in on the machine first15:18
diddledanso it's a session sharer rather than machine sharer if that makes sense?15:19
dogmatic69that is fine, just cant find the switch15:19
diddledanhang on, let me reboot to my ubuntu system and find the bits to walk you through15:19
dogmatic69"desktop sharing"15:19
dogmatic69I got it15:19
diddledanaha15:19
dogmatic69:)15:19
diddledanwell done :-)15:19
dogmatic69you were close15:19
diddledanmay find just searching for "sharing" would have shown it15:20
dogmatic69and it works15:21
dogmatic69looks horrid in 256 colours :D15:22
dogmatic69thanks diddledan15:22
diddledanhah. yeah, we're spoilt with meelions of colours15:22
haltIs there an up-to-date version of the https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization page or any alternative to "Ubuntu Customization Kit" which still work with the 16.04 LTS version as well (to be more specific the gnome version if possible )16:07
haltI wanted to put together a portable "home" but things like keyboard layout, and installed packages and stuff I have to modify comparing to the default LiveCD and would be nice to have some permanent storage even if it's an other mount or something I can script it up to get stuff setup right if there is anything not possible to customise at livecd build time, like bashrc or stuff like this16:10
davmor2halt: not that I know too16:33

dogmatic69hi all, trying to run a command over ssh to start chrome on a remote host21:28
dogmatic69it should just run on the remote machine,21:28
dogmatic69nothing fancy21:28
GargoyleEvenin'21:37
GargoyleCan someone tell me the correct place to put a xrandr command to have it run after login?21:38
GargoyleI tried .xinitrc and .xsession, but more googling suggests they only get run if you start a custom session, not default unity.21:40
GargoyleAlso tried /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99x11-common_start - no dice.21:40
diddledanGargoyle: you could put it into "startup applications" (that's an applet name in the unity dash)21:44
Gargoylelemme try that!21:46
GargoyleYes!21:47
GargoyleThanks dan!21:47
GargoyleCorrect scaling of my retina display! \o/21:48
diddledan\o/21:52
GargoyleAwww. has /etc/rc.local finally bitten the dust on 16.10 too?21:52
