=== nathanael is now known as ncastrocosta [00:10] Hey guys. Can anyone give me any insight into Konsole and fonts. I just cannot seem to get any new fonts working into it. I copied the new "OverpasS" fonts into ~/.fonts/ then ran fc-cache -f and closed Konsole. Reopened and they did not appear. Not sure if they read fonts from a different directory or has some strict guidelines. [00:11] None of the NerdFonts I installed appear either even though they all appear under Personal Fonts in FontManager. [00:17] hmmm [00:17] sounds like maybe a #kde-devel question, schnoodles [00:18] sounds like a bug to me, but I don't know if it is looking in ~/.fonts or not [00:19] Does konsole run in daemon mode? [00:20] Thanks valorie [00:21] dunno, Unit193 -- how would I find out? [00:21] in general, it must be invoked [00:22] valorie: Looking at the cmdline options, or cheap test is to close them all out, then open one and check the start time of konsole. [00:26] https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=227&t=29178 shows them [00:28] hmm, seems more more complete and complicated now, in the real, new konsole [00:29] I don't know how to judge whether or not it can be run as a daemon [00:32] Unit193: only one I know that has a "daemon" mode is quake [00:33] hggdh: xfce4-terminal kind of has a 'server' mode, though that quits with the last terminal. [00:38] kubuntu turns my laptop pad on when it hibernates. I must reboot or shut it off [00:41] deeno: that's really odd [00:42] can you do anything about it in systemsettings? [00:42] It disables when mouse is plugged in? [00:42] umplug and plug in mouse. simple. it is still a bug [00:43] I fixed it by repluging the usb mouse. [00:43] maybe its the Dell hell hardware. === lubuntu is now known as Guest45715 === Guest45715 is now known as lubuntu_ === Sopel is now known as Guest88936 [03:17] ok done lost my mind with this installer with my new laptop lol [03:18] new dell 3558 , trying to install lts or new version is a nightmare as installer keeps trying to i guess register and failing to do so to the new boot code thing [03:19] not to mention crashing half the time [03:19] set it to legacy then somehow isntaller sets it to boot from the other boot method , but fails [03:19] then i turn it back and prey it works [03:20] does same with lts version , i give up at this point , makes no sense as installer for regular ubuntu works fine doing this [03:20] so any people in the "development" circles in here maybe somebody aught to look at this lil problem [03:21] also , can only install sucessfu;ly like this if i use entire disc , cannot have unique partions [03:22] plus thats still legacy unsecured boot [03:23] UEFI specifically [03:51] what are you trying to find? [03:53] unacceptable config? [03:53] need to point to ppa? [03:53] Gone. === lubuntu is now known as Guest6053 [06:42] after installing nvidia 304 driver (recommended) over builtin noveau driver i'm getting login issues. it keeps reloading the login screen (endless login) after entering my password. help [06:48] lenswipee: What version of Kubuntu? [06:48] hateball, the latest version [06:48] And what nvidia chipset [06:48] hateball, Geforce Go 7400 [06:51] lenswipee: Alright, just checking if 304 was indeed the latest supported driver. It is old. [06:51] lenswipee: Can you read ~/.Xsession-errors and see anything of interest? [06:51] hateball, yes it's old [06:52] ugh, ~/.xsession-errors [06:52] lenswipee: and make sure that you are the owner of ~/.Xauthority [06:52] hateball, i've reverted back to noveau driver in order to get back on here. will the error logs still be useful? [06:53] ok [06:54] lenswipee: any reason for wanting to use nvidia driver? on such an old chipset I'd think nouveau would be up to snuff [06:55] hateball, it's not. it's quite limiting and slow. when i update the driver in the gui it's instantly seems faster. after rebooting i get the strange endless login issues. [06:58] hateball, what to type to get to .xsession-errors? [07:04] lenswipee: Not sure why it would seem faster by updating the driver, as it gets reloaded on reboot and not at once [07:05] lenswipee: "cat ~/.xsession-errors" [07:05] or if you install pastebinit you can just pastebinit $file at once [07:07] openConnection: connect: No such file or directory [07:07] cannot connect to brltty at :0 [07:08] #xsession-errors [07:08] you want to see xsession-errors.old? === Guest69044 is now known as lordievader [08:11] Good morning. === mib is now known as Guest3835 [10:21] hi everybody! [10:24] kubuntu 16.10 64 bit nvidia 367 drivers on GT840M [10:35] yocs0000: are you using nvidia-settings to configure monitors? [10:35] Not even a mouse? [10:38] oh I see they are crossposting [10:41] hateball: have the same issue with kubuntu 16.10 .... [10:42] hateball: after the last two updates, beforehand it worked well [10:43] yocs0000: if you use the regular monitor config tool, do you see both monitors there, and are you able to rearrange them? [10:43] hateball: h, by the way! Thanks a lot for the Steam suggestion ..... it works really well. [10:43] yocs0000: :) [10:43] hateball: yes .... but still black .... [10:51] ikonia: and again! [10:51] yocs0000: And how did you configure this in nvidia-settings? Are things set to mirror or to act as separate screens? Can you printscreen the config? [10:51] I am guessing there is a way to pull out the config via cli but I am not on an nvidia machine atm [10:52] hateball: it writes it to xorg-nvidia.conf [10:52] something like that [10:52] hateball: http://paste.ubuntu.com/23587959/ [10:52] yocs0000: you can't put an image in a pastebin [10:52] !screenshot | yocs0000 [10:52] yocs0000: Screenshots can be made with the [PrtScr] button. [10:52] hateball: I have tried both, and it returns black both times .... but let's try first as separate screen [10:53] yocs0000: and what does "black" mean? Does the screen turn off? Are you able to move the mouse cursor over to that screen? [10:54] hateball: no, really black .... the mouse goes out of the working screen, and feels the existenc eof the other screen, but acually nothing appears on the other screen. [10:55] hateball: I am rescanning the ports on the external monitor .... [10:56] yocs0000: is this a fresh install, or have you been fiddling with multiple monitors before? [10:57] hateball: yes, of course, I use hem every day .... [10:57] yocs0000: in any case you could try wiping the contents of ~/.local/share/kscreen/ [10:57] yocs0000: each file represents each monitor and sometimes... things break. Wipe and reboot, reconfigure and hope for the best [10:57] lunch beckons [10:58] hateball: for goodness sake .... the port contact did not work well, it was an hardware problem .... [10:58] hateball: apologies! [10:58] hateball: it was strange .... configuration was still the same. [11:19] Hello. One channel to ask in spanish? I believe valorie got it on real HW. [17:43] alket: yes, via the backports ppa when it's ready. we are testing upgrades at the moment before we release them [17:44] acheronuk: awesome ! [17:44] any ETA ? [17:44] + thanks [17:46] alket: I won't give ETAs, as they come back to bite you quite often. I would hope we will be happy enough to push those to user before Christmas though. [17:46] acheronuk: fair enough, thanks again [17:58] marco-parillo: thanks. The only suggestion I can see is to try installing qt4-default [17:59] other proposed fixes are for people who mistakenly get 32-bit instead of 64-bit qdbus [17:59] I've rebooted multiple times, which hasn't fixed it [17:59] Nope qt4-default didn't fix it, either. [17:59] Seems like a really bad bug to be 2 years old. [18:01] Not sure what to do beyond scrape the machine and rebuild it with vanilla Ubuntu. [18:17] ok, found someone who said their .bashrc busted this -- no idea how that could happen. [18:47] So -latest PLasma available for Kubuntu 16.04.1 now ??? :D Any hints? [18:55] Sorry.
