Would changing sddm to lightdm make that possible or is it some other component that is stopping me? [01:35] [Relic] just me again wish i could help , i think we're both gonna have to go direxctly to the kde developers thru forums or bug reports or something [01:35] my problem isn't fixable either :( [01:36] <[Relic]> what is yours? [01:36] gonna wait till 5.8.5 lands on backports [01:36] can't get unified outputs to display in correct resolution for each display [01:36] <[Relic]> I remember that [01:36] so if main is 1900/x whatever and notebook is 1333 x what ever one or the othewr is useless [01:37] so make using duel monitors freakin useless lol [01:37] <[Relic]> so cloning display on two different resolutions doesn't work well [01:38] doesn't work at alol [01:38] plus the extended display is freakin anoying [01:38] to me atleast [01:39] pick one monitor as main , then all window jump and and max on main , but all functions are avaailable tgthe real desktop on secondary? [01:39] um who thought that one up :) [01:39] not to mention no capability to project a screen thru wifi [01:39] i just think duel support is like back of list atm [01:40] not sure why sinse almost everything short of a pi pc comes with hsmi out now atleast [01:41] if they worked on duel monitor config they way the do on windows config , kde would be light years ahead of alot of distros [01:42] i mean sizing reshaping affects ect. now windows os :) [01:42] not windows [01:42] the os [04:57] Trying to update from 16.04 to 16.10 followed instructions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/YakketyUpgrades/Kubuntu when I go to upgrade it does nothing [04:58] I enteredsudo do-release-upgrade -m desktop -f DistUpgradeViewKDE [04:58] I entered sudo do-release-upgrade -m desktop -f DistUpgradeViewKDE manually [04:58] and got the error FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/share/ubuntu-release-upgrader/fetch-progress.ui' [04:58] how can this be fixed? [05:04] <[Relic]> is that the one that needs the -> This can be fixed by installing the package ubuntu-release-upgrader-qt via Discover/Muon or another package manager. Or alternatively by installing in Konsole or other terminal application with 'sudo apt install ubuntu-release-upgrader-qt'. [05:05] <[Relic]> jack, if you don't have that package installed like it says on that page it can prevent the upgrade [05:05] happy new year all [05:06] <[Relic]> or if you are on your third+ drink, hippie nude deer [05:07] jack > update , then upgrade everything you can [05:07] sudo apt-get dist-upgrade [05:07] sudo do-release-upgrade [05:08] <[Relic]> the error he shows means the upgrader wasn't installed [05:08] how did that happen? [05:08] ok probally a question we don't wanna try to find tonight lol [05:08] lol. [05:08] thanks guys [05:09] going to reset pc [05:09] <[Relic]> best guess it was LTS and people didn't put it in the LTS [05:09] i use lts and its in lts [05:09] well guess we'll never get to bototm of that one [05:09] <[Relic]> first time I did 16.04 to 16.10 it wasn't there [05:10] well i was coming from backported upgraded 16.04 last time i did that upgrade [05:10] so maybe its not be default [05:29] <[Relic]> kwin [05:30] Hi, for some reason the network symbol from the status bar of my Kubuntu 16.10 vanished that I am unable to connect to WiFi through GUI. How can I reset the status bar so that the network symbol in status bar reappears? [05:31] go to settings [05:33] ksry had to much to trouble shoot this of top of my head [05:33] mean drink [05:33] give me a minute to think lol [05:33] sintre: talking to me? [05:33] yea hope you ignored me :) [05:34] was gonna follow that up with a how to but distracted atm :) [05:35] plus i'm using 16.04 lts so problally not best to help with this one [05:37] sintre: I just need a gui to connect to WiFi. wpa_cli is not working well [05:38] you lost connection editor somehow correct? [05:38] sintre: Yes which you see in system tray [05:39] i'm in it now but can figure out its name to activate it , has a setting to add to try [05:39] so finding it if i can [05:41] ok i'm drunk now officall [05:41] right click on desktop [05:41] then go to widgets [05:41] look fr widget that says connection [05:41] thats the manager [05:42] drag and drop where you want it [05:42] of course last place i'd look for it :) [05:43] sintre: Have searched there. No widget called connection [05:43] sorry it says networks [05:43] again been long night :) [05:44] sintre: I have tried those keywords. Only "Network Monitor" shows up [05:45] no do't use key words in krunner [05:45] right click on disktop then click add widget [05:45] sintre: Yes, I am talking about widget part itself [05:45] then go find the icon that says networks [05:45] click on it then drag to deskktop [05:46] then click on it again [05:46] sintre: Nada. Not there [05:47] its there but in the lil box the widgets pop up it may not have an icon [05:48] until you drag it and place it on desktop [05:49] its probally by notes if that helps [05:49] I am 16.10 [05:49] No such widget [05:49] I am on* [05:50] well i am using 16.04 , but upgraded , i can't imagine it not having a widget [05:50] if you haven't solved you problem i'll update a different pc [05:50] <[Relic]> called system tray in 16.10 [05:51] <[Relic]> system tray settings [05:51] tomorrow when i'm sober enough lol , thx relic [05:51] <[Relic]> usually shows the triangle the speaker and the scissors [05:51] [Relic]: I dragged system tray, it's without network management icon [05:52] ok screw new solution [05:52] take curour to right or left o screen [05:53] then right click and say add panel select default panel [05:53] <[Relic]> right click and call up the system tray settings and make sure network is checked [05:53] ssee if that gives you one [05:53] [Relic]: There is no Network option either in hidden menu nor in configuration [05:54] [Relic]: For System Tray widget [05:54] sintre: Yes, have done that as well. Nothing. It's again with network icon [05:55] i jsut gave myself three panels around entire border all came with them hmm [05:55] Even tried direct ethernet connection, not working directly [05:55] Something is messed up on network level [05:56] <[Relic]> so when you right click on that and bring up the system tray settings general categories has 5 selections, then below that in extra items the 3rd item here is Networks [05:57] System Tray Settings > General > Categories - no network option here. Then Extra Items - no network option here as well [05:57] I have done all this [05:58] <[Relic]> that section scrolls, but it should be there [05:58] i believe you dorothy > but this is a head scratcher [05:59] [Relic]: Yes, I checked it thoroughly [05:59] that even making new default panel won't bring up network config in the panel [05:59] <[Relic]> weird thought but have you just tried a reboot and see if it shows up? [05:59] [Relic]: Yep. Nothing even after multiple reboots [06:00] Even connecting to WiFi through cli is failing [06:00] Kernel module for WiFi is loaded already [06:00] wpa_cli is failing [06:00] No GUI [06:01] update and upgrade everything? [06:01] sintre: How will I update and upgrade? lol [06:01] There is no network connection [06:01] if not network how are you talking to us [06:01] I am chatting through another system [06:02] well honestly even sober i wouldn't know where to go from here [06:03] Yeah, even I am thinking what to do [06:03] well go nuclear aka reinstall [06:03] after you back up [06:03] Ah ni [06:03] Ah no [06:03] decide if its easier than trying to trouble shoot this [06:04] well thats up for you to decide of course [06:06] well tomorrow alot more people will probally be around [06:07] hopefully they can come up with a solution for you [06:07] There must be a qdbus command to trigger network management window [06:08] well why the widet itself decided to disapear from your entire os is well stranger [06:08] yes [06:09] sudo start network-manager [06:09] <[Relic]> system settings -> network (settings or connectivity) do anything? [06:10] [Relic]: I could not see option to connect to WiFi through System Settings>Network anywhere [06:11] is it possible you have a laptop with wifi fn+ key you may of hit and disabled wifi by acident? [06:11] sintre: uh what. command not found" [06:11] sintre: Nope, tried [06:12] Even ethernet is not working directly [06:12] USB tethering is not working [06:12] The entire network system seems to have been affected [06:12] ifconfig shows fine [06:12] well sound like something went really wrong with your install at this point [06:13] It's not a fresh install [06:13] Using this version since launch [06:13] well up to you to decide how many hours you want to mess with trying to fix this [06:13] its not normall [06:13] <[Relic]> system setting -> start up shut down -> background services is network status checked and running in the startup services box? [06:14] [Relic]: Okay, this I didn't try. Hold on [06:14] <[Relic]> also plasmanetwork management module [06:16] [Relic]: Okay, System Settings>Workspace section > Startup and Shutdown > Background Services > Startup Services section - Network Proxy Configuration and Network Status are working [06:16] Running that is [06:16] [Relic]: Now about plasmanetwork management module, where is it? [06:16] <[Relic]> two down from the one above usually [06:17] <[Relic]> plasma networmanagement module [06:17] Under Startup Services itself? [06:17] <[Relic]> yep [06:17] <[Relic]> should be right under notification helper [06:18] Nothing by that name. Only Power Management and Print Manager starts with letter P [06:18] <[Relic]> in that bottom scroll box [06:18] Yes, there itself [06:19] <[Relic]> should be right above print manager [06:19] Only two things starting with letter P [06:19] mine is right above print manager and right below notification helper [06:20] Yeah, missing here [06:20] Something really got messed up [06:20] ok dorthory something went wrong somewhere [06:20] really need to back up and thnk about fresh install [06:21] the time we've been troubleshooting this you could of done a fresh install already [06:21] <[Relic]> libkf5networkmanagerqt6 installed? [06:21] love to help but were going in circles [06:23] [Relic]: already installed but it;s asking to install resolvconf [06:23] I remember comming across resolvconf before [Relic] [06:24] <[Relic]> I am hardwired here so no idea :) [06:25] Thanks for your time and help sintre and [Relic] [06:25] np , wish i could of been more use [06:25] but honestly just for peace of mind i'd reinstall at this point [06:26] if it were me facing this problem [06:26] to each there own though [06:27] happy new year btw dorothy and [Relic] :) [06:56] hello i did made mistake i did sudo chmod 777 -R / which gived write permission to alot of my system files [06:57] now when i try to build some application it gives some errors when i asked they told me that its because the user dont have execution permission even when i used sudo === matthew is now known as SEptic === usuario2 is now known as NatashaHack === jayhunold is now known as jhunold === gabor is now known as excognac [12:38] Happy New Year everyone === paolo_ is now known as faLUCE === efm__ is now known as efm === joe__ is now known as joe83 [16:24] Hi, i get alsa errors when trying to run a steam game, Here 's console output: [16:25] http://pastebin.com/pa8vLUe8 [19:32] Happy new years! === sysadmin is now known as VlanX === sysadmin is now known as Vlanx === ricardo is now known as Guest80386 === Guest80386 is now known as rattlesnake_96 [21:49] hello. [21:49] I am, but I'm probably not going to be of much help. ;) [21:50] Is there someone who would able to help< [21:50] You need to ask the question first. [21:50] With Kubuntu 16.04 LTS [21:50] boots only to tty [21:51] not loading the KDE plasma gui [21:51] getting an error message with ubuntu lo memory in root filesystem... happens after running bleachbit... can someone here assist? [21:52] specifically: "the-volume-filesystem-root-has-only-0-bytes-disk-space-remaining" [21:53] user|86137 probably a gfx driver issue. [21:55] no, it worked fine [21:55] I have stopped using bleachbit for that exact same reason. [21:55] i upgraded to plasma 5.8 via ppa backports [21:56] There are certain items you can "turn off" to work around the issue but it isn't a fix. [21:56] did not work well, so i downgraded [21:56] so I lets ubuntu run 'free like willy' ? [21:56] and it does not work since [21:56] no maintenance whatsoever [21:56] ? [21:56] apt-get clean is enough from time to time? [21:58] what does apt/get clean do [21:58] I always use the propriatary nvidia drivers so I'm not sure how well plasma works with the free driver [21:58] ... just switched my production box from winbloze to ubuntu (finally) so I'm unfamilar with many 'workings'.. trying to avoid any curveballs in this respect [21:58] Maksim Muruev was added by: Maksim Muruev [21:58] can anyone recommend 'best practice' for same? [21:59] Hello, I've got [21:59] problem with sound system [22:00] Basically I have multimedia monitor with HDMI and internal sound card, also BT headphones. And I want flexible and easy way switch between those devices. [22:01] When I feel I need to run Bleachbit I let it run overnight and simply kill the process in the morning. I always stalls with one minute remaining. [22:02] For now I have my monitor and internal sound card as ONE device?! Why? In ubuntu HDMI shows as separated. Also sound volume control stop work for 'master'' when I do switch. [22:03] ...so bleachbit perpetually broken? [22:03] Last I looked it was. [22:03] is there any other way to gage overall box health? [22:03] *automatic* way [22:04] I wouldn't want to automatically run something like bleachbit. [22:04] ... so just 'shotgun maintenance' is what you recommend? [22:05] Safest way I work is to use one drive or partition to do your work in and purge it periodically. [22:06] fair play... what's best practice for periodic backup? [22:06] ? please splain "purge it" [22:07] I run a chron script using rsync [22:08] gots 1x ssd drive, 2x hd drive and one external hd drive (archive & backup) [22:08] gots virtualbox running a win10 instance on ssd drive (i like it snappy) with loads of ram.. [22:09] and I have servers runing on one of the hd drives... so I 'work' on two drives [22:09] Don't confuse the linux purge command with what I said. What I meant was to back up important stuff and simply format the partition and start again. If you need deeper deletion I can't help you. ;0 [22:13] ... so chron scripts with rsync for work drives... and deal with any other issues "as they break"... is this normally how ubuntu linux users run? [22:13] nothing more proactive? [22:14] ...preventative? [22:18] Don't judge ubuntu users here and now by the answers you get here and now. I for one am rather drunk, but feeling in a helpful mood. There are many answers to your question, but I for one am not able to help. I trust myself to know when a backup needs to happen and I trust myself not to do anything that requires data to be purged. Sorry. [22:23] sorry.. i didn't mean to imply any judgement whatsoever [22:24] sincere apologies if that's what it seemed like [22:25] just trying to determine 'best practice' for maintentance and backup [22:34] sincerely sorry if I caused anyone to feel judged or offended [22:38] I guess I'll search elsewhere [22:38] thanks anyway === omar__ is now known as omarramo [22:49] hey guys [22:49] is there a way to disable mouse accel via ui? it only goes down to 0.1 x on my system [22:52] Can't you click in the box and manually enter a number? (Sorry, I'm on Mint atm) [22:53] yup but you cant press accept [22:53] Oh! Let me look [22:53] really weird, why would they not let you disable mouse accel [22:55] Nope.. seems to be a KDE thing. 0.1 is the minimum [23:00] Nytram: seems like the best you can get via ui is setting the threshhold to 0 which would still be polynomial acceleration [23:03] Not that I'd ever need to go there, but yeah, seems you're right.
