BigWhaleI think I spotted this weird bug. If you click in time in unity panel and leave the calendar open then wait for computer to turn off the screens, compiz will crash :>08:12
dufluBigWhale: Sounds like this 11-year-old bug needs updating: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/4957908:16
ubot5Ubuntu bug 49579 in unity (Ubuntu) "screen doesn't lock when some menu is open" [High,Triaged]08:16
sarnoldI -think- Trevinho may have recently (~six months ago?) pushed code to try to break the grab.. I wonder if compiz sometimes gets grumpy about that.08:17
duflusarnold: Yes sounds like a recent regression08:18
duflusarnold: It appears I suggested that back in 2013 (comment #59) :)08:21
sarnoldduflu: ha, that's great :)08:22
sarnold.. and almost every changelog entry here feels like it could be related :/ https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+changelog08:23
dufluSounds like it was better left unfixed08:23
seb128did anyone even confirm the issue?08:24
seb128or are you just all randomly speciculating one on IRC mention?08:25
seb128discrediting potential changes from collegues as buggy on the way without any evidence?08:25
sarnoldseb128: random speculation.08:28
seb128sarnold, I assumed so :-)08:36
seb128BigWhale, in any case would be good to get a stacktrace or apport report08:36
seb128also would be useful to know what Ubuntu serie you use08:36
ricotzhey desktopers08:43
ricotzSweet5hark, hi, did you forgot to push the l10n package?08:43
seb128hey ricotz08:45

seb128so as pitti says, you are in your mobile office? ;-)08:49
desrtseems to be.  they have free wifi even in 2nd class now.  that's nice.08:49
seb128nice indeed08:50
desrtso flying on a tuesday night is pretty great.  the airport was really empty, no lines, and the flight was cheap08:50
desrtand i'm going to end up doing a more or less full work day today08:51
seb128empty seat next to you?08:51
desrtsomething better than that ;)08:51
seb128you don't get class promotion on empty planes do you? ;-)08:51
* desrt was flying Mascha Class™08:52
desrtwe got right in the back of the plane where it starts getting narrow and is 2-4-2 instead of 3-4-3, so we grabbed one of the '2's... was quite nice.08:52
seb128ah, I see08:53
seb128nice that you had a good trip!08:53
desrtthanks :)08:54
seb128oh, Laney is late today!09:03

desrtmorning laney :D09:04
Laneypretty good!09:04
Laneytuesday routine: climbing -> pub quiz09:04
Laneyit was meant to be raining all evening so I was expecting to get wet on the bike but in the end it was more-or-less dry09:04
desrttuesday is somehow the international standard day of pub quiz night09:05
Laneyhey desrt, welcome to eurotime09:05
desrtthanks :D09:05
Laneyseb128: and how are you?09:05
willcookeheyooo09:06

Laneyah bruxeleleles09:07
desrtLaney: the only valid spelling is "bruzzzlex"09:07
Laneyhope that we avoid leon this time >:|09:07
desrtwhat's wrong with leon?09:07
desrtthe great thing about going to brussels every year is doing *exactly* the same set of things that you did all of the years before09:08
Laneythe food was really shite last year09:09
desrthm.  i can't remember.09:09
Laneythere was something about mascha's meal09:10
Laneybut i forgot what09:10
Laneyhowever, that's still the only place i've ever (knowingly) had horse09:10
desrti've had it at a place in köln.  it was very dry.  leon was much better.09:10
desrthorse is a bit of a difficult meat from what i understand09:11
Sweet5harkricotz: heh, it did upload, but didnt end up in the ppa because of size limits10:00
ricotzSweet5hark, ah, I see, could you fix that10:03
Sweet5harkricotz: takes some time for lp to "realize" I deleted a package to free up space. but yeah, will do.10:04
ricotzSweet5hark, there likely is a need for transitional packages of libreoffice-style-human and libreoffice-sdbc-firebird10:04
ricotzSweet5hark, ok10:04
flexiondotorgMorning Desktopers.10:05
ricotzSweet5hark, and maybe:10:05
ricotz ENABLE_MYSQLNATIVE=y10:05
ricotz-MYSQL_FLAVOUR=default10:05
ricotz+MYSQL_FLAVOUR=mysql10:05
ricotz # set this also to y for system-mysql..10:05
willcookemorning flexiondotorg10:06

seb128hey flexiondotorg10:30
flexiondotorgseb128 o/10:30
jbichaLaney: wine doesn't show up in appstream in zesty but it does in sid; could you update the generator to 0.6.2?10:31
jbichaI don't know if that helps wine but because the new version now accepts some .xpm's, more stuff like unknown-horizons should get appstream metadata now10:32
LaneyLater10:38
LaneyI know about the changes, but thanks for the reminder10:38
jbichathanks10:40
GunnarHjHi seb128, I saw pitti's forward of my email about language pack updates. Do you think it's doable within the next 24 hours?12:17
=== JanC_ is now known as JanC
Sweet5harkricotz: -l10n uploaded directly to -prereleases. libreoffice pkg copy over from -staging w/o rebuild.13:20
Trevinhoflexiondotorg: sorry I didn't read your yesterday's request...13:24
Trevinhoflexiondotorg: no it only fixed icon: stanza...13:24
Trevinhoflexiondotorg: desktop one is buggy too, I wanted to look at it13:24
flexiondotorgTrevinho OK, thanks.13:24
flexiondotorgYeah, I thought the desktop stanza should support multiple entries.13:24
Trevinhonot only, it has also some problems in handling them13:25
seb128GunnarHj, hey, not sure maybe I can get it done tomorrow but need to look at my notes from before holidays and get familiar again wtih the tools and we need a new key generated and put in place on launchpad, might take a few days ... better to update the schedule to next week if you can13:26
BLu2Will Unity 8 have a native blue light filter?13:29
seb128BLu2, hey, you can try #ubuntu-unity but it's probably not something on the current roadmap, would be nice to have but there are other things missing to do before13:31
GunnarHjseb128: NP, I've changed it to next week. As a reciprocation, any chance you can sponsor bug #1655782? ;) (I have updated the proposal to xkeyboard-config 2.19.)13:40
ubot5bug 1655782 in xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) "Elfdalian layout + merge with Debian 2.19-1" [Wishlist,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/165578213:40
seb128oh right, I said I would have a look to that one13:40
seb128GunnarHj, I can do this afternoon yes13:41
GunnarHjseb128: Thanks. :)13:41
GunnarHjseb128: Btw, what about opening translations for zesty?13:42
seb128GunnarHj, +1 for that, I tried to ping wgrant about that before holidays but he never replied, maybe you can try as well?13:43
BLu2seb128, ok nice, I really got used to it on Android and Redshift on Ubuntu13:44
seb128BLu2, would be nice to have for sure13:46
BLu2seb128, and maybe give some apps the option to escape it, like video players13:47
GunnarHjseb128: I did so last cycle but didn't get a reply. :( Do you know if unmarking the check boxes at https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/zesty/+translations-admin is sufficient, or is there more into it?13:50
seb128GunnarHj, there is more, let's try asking on #launchpad?13:51
GunnarHjseb128: Ok.13:52
Laneyupsssssssssssssss13:56
seb128Laney, what did you do? ;-)14:00
Laneyseb128: used the indicator-datetime calendar >:(14:05
seb128crashed compiz?14:05
Laneyu-p-s14:05
LaneyTrevinho: did we talk before about making things wants instead of requires of unity7.service?14:06
Laneytaking down unity because u-p-s crashes sucks14:07
Laneyhttps://paste.debian.net/912191/14:07
seb128we take down unity on ups segfaults?14:07
seb128seems buggy indeed14:07
Laneyyeah because unity7.service has requires on ups14:07
seb128your log has a compiz segfault though14:08
seb128kernel: compiz[7561]: segfault at 20 ip 00007fb9ab38834c sp 00007ffcb904aff0 error 4 in libunityshell.so[7fb9aaf8e000+5df000]14:08
Laneylooks to me like that happens when it's being stopped14:08
seb128could be14:08
seb128do you have bts/apport files for those segfaults?14:08
Laneyyep running ubuntu-bug on that shit now14:09
seb128it's on zesty?14:09
Laneyumm14:09
Laneynot sure i've dist-upgraded here actually14:09
Laneynah 16.1014:09
seb128k14:09
Laneystill has the requires on zesty tho14:09
* Laney can't remember how to make apport file a launchpad bug14:10
Laneyguess I have to edit that config file14:11
Laneybah, out of date packages14:13
* Laney needs to eat, back sooooooooooon14:13
seb128enjoy!14:15
TrevinhoLaney: hey, so... there was some discussion14:41
TrevinhoBut yeah it's better not to make crash unity in that way...14:44
TrevinhoInstead we wanted to change things when unity was locked, but... that was some idea which probably it's not worth to do now14:45
seb128hey Trevinho, how are you?15:00
Laneyhey Trevinho15:22
Trevinhohey seb128 and Laney15:22
Trevinhoseb128: good, you?15:22
TrevinhoJust distracted from IRC these days... :-)15:22
seb128Trevinho, distracted by useful work right? ;-) I'm good as well thanks!15:23
Laneytsk15:23
seb128Laney, Trevinho, when do you get in Brussel on friday?15:23
Laneydesrt: omg I just remembered15:23
Trevinhoseb128: sure... I'm just lost in scripts and code :-)15:23
Laneysomeone sung Barrett's Privateers at folk club last week15:23
Trevinhoseb128: I'll be at about 4 I guess15:23
Laneyseb128: like 180015:23
Trevinhoseb128: you?15:24
seb128Trevinho, don't forget your flight!15:24
Trevinhoseb128: eheh, no a friend of mine will be with me, and he won't ignore it for sure :-)15:24
seb128Trevinho, not decided yet, I need to book a train ticket but there are going hourly, that's why I was asking15:24
seb128I'm probably going to try to arrive around 17h15:24
Laneywill you get to centraal?15:24
Trevinhook good15:24
Laneyor midi?15:24
seb128which is best?15:24
Laneycentraal is closer15:24
Laneydon't know if you get a choice though15:24
seb128I never know, I think trains go to midi but centraal is the previous stop15:25
Laneyeurostar goes to midi15:25
desrtLaney: cool!15:25
Laneyit's like 10 minutes walk from there15:25
TrevinhoI'll be midi, as I'll fly ryanair....15:25
Laneydesrt: remembered you trying to teach us it by the river in heidelberg15:25
* desrt arrives at midi15:25
Laneyremembered a couple of the lines anyway15:25
desrt:D15:25
Laneyand then sherbrooke reminded me of highvoltage and stgraber15:26
desrti arrive 15:35 friday15:26
desrtwrong sherbrooke, actually15:26
Laneyah man15:26
Laneythat should be illegal15:26
desrtfwiw, you're not the only confused one15:26
desrtthe use of 'sherbrooke' in that song is an anachronism15:27
Laneyhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherbrooke_(disambiguation)15:27
Laneywtf15:27
* Laney should probably upgrade off oldstable before it becomes oldoldstable15:32
Laneyour neighbours are moving today15:36
Laneythey keep giving us things that they can't fit in the moving van15:36
Laneybonus15:36
seb128"here, take that bag of cold coins"15:37
seb128right? ;-)15:37
Laneyhaha15:38
Laneythat would be quite heavy ...15:38
Laneyi'd be willing to do that favour for them15:38
seb128:-)15:40
jcastroSweet5hark: This new notebookview for LO is really slick15:49
Sweet5harkjcastro: yes, and thats just the start ;)15:50
jcastroI have some dumb questions for ya15:51
Sweet5harkjcastro: shoot15:52
jcastroin the --edge version, when I file open, it still sends me to /snap/blah, am I doing something wrong?15:52
Sweet5harkjcastro: hmm, that might actually be a left-over patch.15:53
jcastrook and part 2 of that, I assume over the next few X this will trickle down to the stable channel? Solve for X. :)15:54
jcastroI also see some people recommending --devmode on omgubuntu but I don't think that's right anymore?15:56
Sweet5harkjcastro: so 5.3.0.3 = 5.3.0 final snaps are currently building on launchpad (will autopopulate to edge). once that completes and show not obvious huge desaster it will be copied over to stable for amd64 and armhf.16:05
Sweet5harkjcastro: i386 is on hold. something is broken there.16:05
jcastro<316:05
BLu2How will games be handled in future Ubuntu releases? will there be a "game window"/"game mode" or does every snap create it's own instance? Because stuff like Openbroadcaster etc16:05
Sweet5harkjcastro: (note we did not have i386 snap build on stable before, so this is not a regression)16:06
Sweet5harkand yes: --devmode should be obsolete now.16:06
ricotzSweet5hark, are there stats about the need for armhf builds?16:06
Sweet5harkricotz: well, given that snaps are supposed to completely replace dpkgs one day, that is not really about stats but rather dogmatic AFAICS.16:08
Sweet5harkFWIW, armhf port wasnt too much of an extra pain anyway up to now.16:09
ricotzSweet5hark, ok, I thought about flipping this switch in the ppa for some time16:10
willcookenight all18:33
