olatX200 | hello guys. I'm having installation problems with xubuntu, can someone help me? | 17:26 |
olatX200 | anyone? | 17:27 |
flocculant | olatX200: first - yes someone can probably help you - but you need to give more information | 17:28 |
flocculant | and second - have some patience ;) | 17:28 |
olatX200 | Ok, thanks. I'm kinda going at it for hours. I'm a linux newb so I'll explain everything in detail, ok? O:) | 17:29 |
flocculant | won't necessarily be me - but more information will help whoever does | 17:31 |
olatX200 | I have an old Dell laptop so I wanted to install XUbuntu on it. I downloaded the 12.04 LTS version because it fits my laptop's requirements. I made a bootable USB disc with Unetbootin since my laptop has no CD drive. I used PLOP to get the installation going. Everything started nice, I set all the parameters and the installation was going nicely. But then, I got the following error in a window called "Software selection": please i | 17:31 |
olatX200 | Xubuntu 12.04.4 LTS _precise pangolin_ - Release i386 (20140205.0)' in the drive '/media/cdrom/' and press enter. Media change. | 17:32 |
flocculant | olatX200: I'll stop you there | 17:33 |
flocculant | 12.04 has been out of support for nearly 2 years for xubuntu | 17:33 |
olatX200 | I think that this has nothing to do with the version, but with Linux in general. I found some tutorials that describe the same problem on 16.04, but they all say something about "sudo something something" and when I type "sudo xxxx" in the console it says sudo not found (ALT+f2) | 17:35 |
=== Justanick1 is now known as Justanick | ||
flocculant | alt+f2 isn't what you want probably - you want a terminal super+t | 17:39 |
flocculant | and if it STILL says sudo not found - something wrong with download | 17:40 |
olatX200 | Super+T does nothing :( Just stays the same. :$ | 17:41 |
flocculant | ctrl+alt+t | 17:41 |
flocculant | anyway - all that aside 12.04 is EOL for us | 17:41 |
flocculant | and 14.04 only has a few months left too | 17:42 |
olatX200 | Still nothing... Well, thanks for trying. Maybe someone comes across who had similar problems. Thanks again. | 17:42 |
flocculant | olatX200: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM | 17:48 |
olatX200 | nope nothing | 17:53 |
