Trioxinhaving a problem. I had to clear out ~/.config and ~/.cache to fix plasmashell last night and now my audio device isn't showing except when I run aplay -l06:57
Trioxinonly my hdmi audio device is showing in pulseaudio06:58
hateballTrioxin: does it behave properly in a new/guest session?07:00
Trioxinill check07:02
Trioxinhateball, no07:07
hateballTrioxin: So it's not related to your user settings then07:08
Trioxini guess. just happened right after that07:08
hateballTrioxin: Did you do any other changes? Like upgrade kernel or something07:08
Trioxinno07:08
Trioxini installed erlang. that was all07:09
Trioxinwhich I've removed07:09
Trioxinit shows in all the cli commands I can find07:09
hateballTrioxin: where is it not showing then? In the sound kcm ?07:10
hateballor in the volume applet?07:10
Trioxinany volume app07:10
Trioxinno sound playing07:11
Trioxinit shows in alsamixer. just no pulseaudio07:11
hateballright, but in the sound kcm, can you see it there?07:11
Trioxinkcm?07:11
hateballpress alt+f2, search for sound07:11
hateballlemme find the correct one07:12
Trioxink07:12
Trioxinsound just brings up Audio Volume - System Settings Module07:12
hateballTrioxin: /usr/bin/kcmshell5 kcm_phonon07:12
Trioxini see where it used to be but it's grayed out07:14
Trioxinhttp://storage6.static.itmages.com/i/17/0210/h_1486710875_1347073_2b7c0198f5.png07:14
hateballTrioxin: did you wipe all of ~/.config ?07:15
Trioxinyeah but I brought most back07:15
Trioxinjust wasn't sure what was crashing plasmashell07:15
hateballTrioxin: usually a plasmoid gone wrong07:16
hateballwiping config is a bit... heavy handed07:16
hateballTrioxin: do you have pavucontrol installed?07:16
Trioxinwell, it happened as  the result of starting a new session of the same user in parallel07:16
Trioxinwhich in itself was an accident. i immediately logged out07:17
Trioxinthen each time I  typed anything into search it crashed plasma07:17
Trioxinyes i have it07:17
Trioxindoesn't show in there07:17
hateballTrioxin: and you're unable to select your device there as well?07:18
hateballhmmm07:18
Trioxini have a backup of the old config07:18
hateballwell unless there's some system-wide messup, all you should need to do to reset pulse is "rm -r ~/.config/pulse; pulseaudio -k"07:19
hateballbut one can also modify things in /etc/pulse/ and then who knows07:20
Trioxinonly thing I've done as root since audio was working was to install plasma-workspace07:21
Trioxinreinstall pulse?07:22
Trioxinaplay works07:25
Trioxinbrb07:28

Trioxinhateball, what's going on is weird. ever since I cleared ~/.config, things have been not starting up in the same order and some things aren't being killed when I log out that once were. I have to kill openvpn each time I log out and back in now where I didn't before. The problem with audio was that a while ago I installed the randomsound package. After clearing .config it was starting up before pulseaudio and grabbing the sound card. removing randomsound07:40
Trioxinfixed it. Sucks because randomsound is great for adding entropy to /random07:40
Trioxinmaybe I can just reinstall it07:41
hateballTrioxin: any reason you're not using urandom ?07:49
hateballI suppose if you are paranoid you'd want random ;d07:50
Trioxinalways noid07:51
Trioxini'll just buy a hrng07:52
Trioxincan get one for $40. would be awesome to have a quantum hrng but too much $07:53
Trioxinthose assholes need competition. I don't think the parts are much $07:55
Trioxinquantum key exchange servers!07:55
Trioxinquestion: if I allow my clipboard history widget to index files does it keep a copy of them or just a reference?08:07

ubottuLaunchpad bug 1627348 in kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) "Kubuntu Yakkety Live DVD boots to black screen with mouse pointer" [Undecided,Confirmed]13:02
