mupBug #1667633 opened: Digital Loggers Inc. PDU configurations are dependent between machines <MAAS:New> <https://launchpad.net/bugs/1667633>11:01
netengCan someone point me in the general direction for creating of custom images?  Do I build my machine out, make all the changes I need and then somehow tar it up?  Or?14:20
netengI found instructions on building out maas-image-builder (which were broke).  I finally got it installed on my maas machine.14:22
brendandneteng, what kind of custom images?14:23
netengjust a centos 6.8 64 bit machine...14:24
netengwe have lots of custom file changes14:24
brendandneteng, CentOS 7.0 won't do (or 6.6)?14:24
netengnope must use 6.814:24
brendandneteng, you need a commercial agreement for anything else14:24
brendandUbuntu and CentOS 7.0/6.6 are the only ones supported by default14:25
netengcommercial as in I need to buy support for maas?14:25
brendandneteng, yeah14:25
netengthere is no other method to making an image?14:26
brendandneteng, not that is supported14:26
brendandit's oss so obviously if you can convince it to work...14:27
netengok… not really looking for it to be supported.  Just looking to be able to create my centos 6.8 image that we roll to all of our machines14:27
brendandneteng, there's info on pricing on https://maas.io/14:28
brendandneteng, i understand14:28
netengit says free for cent and custom images14:28
brendandneteng, yes - stock 6.6 and 7.014:29
brendandthat could be clarified i guess14:29
netengso there is truly no other way to make an image without paying for support?14:29
brendandno14:32
netenglol… this has gotta be a joke14:33
brendandhttps://docs.ubuntu.com/maas/2.1/en/installconfig-images14:40
brendandThe CentOS bit should be clarified...14:40
brendand..in order to build a custom image for any operating system is the relevant part14:41
netengThanks for the help brendand… time to find a truly open sourced product14:41
rbasakI fail to see how this means that MAAS isn't open source. brendand is just declining to spend *his* time on your problem, that's all.14:43
rbasak<brendand> it's oss so obviously if you can convince it to work...14:43
netengmost openen sourced products have docs that detail how to do what the product is supposed to do14:44
netengI only asked for someone to point me in that direction I did not ask for him to do it for me14:44
rbasakI fail to see how this means that MAAS isn't open source.14:45
netengThe open sourced products I generally use don't require some sort of paid support to get them working either14:45
rbasakAnd MAAS does what it is advertised to do without requiring any paid support either. The only error here is that the documentation doesn't make it clear what versions it is designed to work with, which has been acknowleged.14:46
netenganyways….14:46
DesktopManRunning maas on 16.04, trying to commision nodes. commissioning fails with "Can not apply stage config, no datasource found!"16:44
DesktopManany ideas where to start looking for the cause?16:44
DesktopManhere's a screenshot of the boot: https://snag.gy/yhbscG.jpg16:46
pmatulislooks like an iscsi problem. network?16:50
DesktopManwell the network is exceptionally simple... not sure what can go wrong here.16:51
DesktopManthinking it might be this? https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/158232316:52
DesktopManthey did commission last week when I was messing around, so that part fits16:56
DesktopManis it possible to log in to the node when it fails commissioning? going to be hard to get logs if not...17:11
brendandDesktopMan, you can access the remote syslog from /var/log/maas/rsyslog17:17
DesktopManaha. that is very useful :)17:18
DesktopManthe folders there are timestamped two days ago17:20
DesktopManI deleted it and it also fails to enlist.17:21
DesktopMandoes maas use the cloud image for enlisting/commissioning as well? wondering if the bug above is fixed in those images17:22
DesktopManI did rename the machines inside maas. don't think that should matter17:33

mimizoneI am a bit confused by how the network gateway/routes are set up via the UI. I use MAAS 2.1. Should there be only one gateway in one subnet? Is there a way to have different setup on different nodes?17:49
mupBug #1667754 changed: Deleting machines from Nodes listing page tries decomposing multiple times. <MAAS:Triaged> <MAAS RSD :Triaged> <https://launchpad.net/bugs/1667754>17:50
DesktopManmimizone: if I understand it correctly you'll have to put the nodes on different lans (physical or vlan) for that since the gateway is configured per subnet17:53
DesktopManfor the network interface used for pxe booting that is. after the machine is up you can configure the other interfaces on the node configuration screen17:54

DesktopMantried to inject a user like it says here, but the image is not called root-image in my /var/lib/maas. changed name+18:08

DesktopManwell I give up. no idea how I can find out what goes wrong.18:27
DesktopMansame error when trying to enter rescue mode18:36
DesktopManwhat should I give dpkg-reconfigure maas-region-controller ?19:08
DesktopManit accepts both network addresses and ip addresses....19:08
pmatulisi've always used an ip address. by network address i presume you mean a hostname19:19
DesktopManI mean like 10.1.5.0/2419:19
DesktopMandoesn't look like it cares what it gets, I think that was my issue19:20
pmatulisohh19:21
mimizonemaas 2.1 doesn't add gateways, nor static routes. I use static IPs on my interfaces. How can I set the gateway info and my custom routes??23:48
mimizoneI entered the info in the subnets.23:49
