[16:27] <xubuntu33w> this happened to me back on ubuntu 12.04, got a black screen on boot, restarted the display manager and did a sudo dpkg-reconfigure from the terminal and it worked after wards. This normally happened when I upgraded the nvidia drivers but that was a couple of years ago
