Azure_Chaosso how is kde now in 16.04? is it still broken01:33
SnowhogAzure_Chaos: That's a subjective question. I have absolutely no issues with my 16.04 installation, either on my HP 64-bit laptop, or in the Oracle Virtualbox VM I have on my iMac.01:36
Azure_ChaosOk well i had to switch to debian about 5 months ago because all i got was freezes and crashes on 16.04. Thats why i asked kde is the only desktop i like to use so it was a problem.01:38
SnowhogWhether KDE/Plasma is issue free or not depends entirely on the hardware it's being installed on AND also, and maybe even more importantly, HOW the OS was installed: New installation with formatted partitions, or version upgraded keeping the home partition intact. Just to many variables.01:41
Azure_ChaosYea i have nvidia and didnt have problems with 14.04 but as soon as i upgraded to kde 5 and 16.04 problem city. i wanted ot move back but itd be poinless if it was still messed up.01:43
valorieAzure_Chaos: one way to find out: try with live USB01:47
Azure_Chaosgood idea i didnt think of that ill try it thanks01:50
ussher_something went wrong everything froze.  Rebooted to see a "Buffer I/O error on dev sdc, logical block 0, async page read" after ever message during boot up.01:58
ussher_cant access terminal because the messages wont stop.01:58
ussher_any idea on how to fix?01:58
ussher_actually terminal seams to be working, just gets lost amongst the messages01:59
ussher_guessing drive failure.02:06

schnoodlesHey everyone. I am having some space issues on my machine even though I have enough space so trying to remove some stuff. Can I actually remove these files (https://gist.github.com/joshbenham/5151163cc9e5b11f3978cf4628c29462) even though they do not appear to be in synaptic?05:37
schnoodlesI had this issue a while ago as well. Just random input/output errors even though still have space.05:38
sintrewhe is is last time up updated05:39
schnoodlesI update my packages on a daily basis.05:40
sintresudo apt full-update  nomrally gets rid of useless packages05:40
schnoodlesNothing appeared. A;ps checked df to see if it was an INodes problem but that does not seem to be the case either.05:42
schnoodlesAny reason why dpkg -i shows so many linux images?05:42
sintreno that is wierd05:42
sintrenever seen it on my system05:42
sintregive me command you used to find that let me check on mine05:43
schnoodles-- dpkg -l | grep linux-image05:44
sintrehttps://thepasteb.in/p/76hElzgzXOBtV05:45
sintreseems to be on mine as well05:45
sintreseems nomral i guess05:46
sintrehow muich space are they actually taking up?05:47
schnoodlesNot much at all. I am just trying to solve what could be causing this problem.05:48
sintrewhat is the problem space?05:48
sintrethese images or file whatever they are dot seem to be the cause05:48
sintrei checked another lappy same thing05:49
sintrethat archive of sorts seems to be standard05:49
schnoodlesYeah seems to be from somewhere else. Ok back to the net to research. Thanks for that.05:51
sintrenp if you figure it out pls let me know05:52
valorieschnoodles: there is a very cool tool called filelight that lets you look at your drives see what might need clearing out or enlarging06:23
valoriealso if you have loads of old kernels etc you can do in the commandline: `sudo apt clean && sudo apt auto-remove`06:27
schnoodlesThanks valorie. Yeah Filelight was no help in this instance. Not too sure the problem (seems to be with a particular .git repository) so I did the fix in another to get around it.06:50
valoriegit repo?06:58
valoriehmmm06:58

Azure_ChaosAre their plans to update the kubuntu backports repo with the latest kde lts? The current versions pretty bugg right now.18:01
BluesKaj16.04 ?18:04
BluesKajAzure_Chaos,^18:05
Azure_Chaosyes18:05
Azure_ChaosIve tryed amd and nvidia cards as well it seems like current version is just not working that great and hasnt been for sometime.18:06
BluesKajnvidia should work ok as long as yopu choose the recommended driver in system settings>driver manager18:07
Azure_Chaosyea i have tryed nouvou and the proprietary one as well.18:09
Azure_ChaosUnless theres something im missing that needs changed.18:10
BluesKajwhich proprietary driver ?18:11
Azure_Chaosnvidia-36118:12
BluesKajwhat's your gpu?18:12
Azure_Chaosi have a gtx 73018:12
Azure_ChaosProcessor shouldnt matter but i have a amd fx 8350 as well.18:13
Azure_ChaosWhat i have been getting is a lot of random crashes in dolphin and in the settings menu along with plams quit working problems.18:14
BluesKajis this an Optimus gpu system on a laptop?18:14
Azure_Chaosno its a desktop18:15
BluesKajbut it it Optimuzs dual gpu system18:15
BluesKajis it18:15
BluesKajor do you swap out 2 cards?18:16
Azure_Chaosno its not optimus my card is a EVGA GeForce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 accidently put the x in before.18:16
Azure_ChaosAnd when i tested it i swapped my nvidia one for a amd 545018:17
Azure_Chaosto see if that helped but it didnt18:17
BluesKajhmm, 361 sound about right for that nvidiacard18:17
Azure_Chaos4.12 kde in 14.04 worked flawlessly though before18:18
BluesKajAzure_Chaos, I wasn't impressesd with 16.04 and 16.10 isn't bug free either18:19
Azure_ChaosI agree i relly think kde team is having trouble with kde5 they changed to much to fast from what i gather.18:21
BluesKajtesting 17.04 beta1 atm and it looks very promising so far, more stable than 16.1o, but if you're on a production machine then I don't what to recommend, but this has been my experience18:23
BluesKajknow18:23

Azure_ChaosYea i need stability i think 16.04 isnt bad if your using another desktop enviroment. But kde just has so many features no other one give you incuding the wallpaper slideshows.18:24
BluesKajdo you use activities?18:25
Azure_ChaosNo i dont i never really got into that myself18:26
Azure_ChaosIts be nice if someone forked kde 4.12 that was rock solid.18:26
BluesKajit can be setup like VDs used to be with different backgrounds for different activities and applications in each18:27
=== OneShot2017 is now known as OneShot-17
Azure_Chaosthats pretty cool18:27
Azure_ChaosHonestly slideshows and the file association is what i like best about kde. No other desktop has slideshows like theirs and the file association is a mess on other desktops.18:29
comptekkiHi. I use an external display with kubuntu 17.04 beta 1 and I moved the menu bar from the laptop screen to the external dispaly.  When I unplug the external screen (vi HDMI), the menu bar does not show up on the laptop. Is there a way to do that?19:32
comptekkiSo I don't have to manually move panel back and forth?19:32
