Dr-redfield | Hey guys | 09:25 |
---|---|---|
Dr-redfield | I'm trying to install an Java program on my xubuntu but when I run it, it gives me a error saying: "Graphical installers are not supported by the V;. The console mode will be used instead..." and then it exits... I've googled the issue and I believe that this is caused by me running linux in 64 bit and the program I'm trying to install is in 32 bit.. however I am not able to find any solution to how to enable the 32bit installer to work on my system.. anyo | 09:30 |
pmjdebruijn | Dr-redfield: what program? | 09:31 |
Dr-redfield | it's a cisco program, RTMT | 09:31 |
pmjdebruijn | did you start the installer from a terminal? | 09:32 |
Dr-redfield | yes, I just entered "./Programname.bin" in the terminal, and that's where I get the error message | 09:33 |
pmjdebruijn | can you pastebin the entire installer log | 09:33 |
pmjdebruijn | as in on pastebin.com | 09:33 |
Dr-redfield | http://pastebin.com/5gBeD7nw | 09:35 |
Dr-redfield | sweet, never used pastebin before... | 09:35 |
pmjdebruijn | ./CcmServRtmtPlugin.bin -i console | 09:36 |
Dr-redfield | I tried that allready, did it again now just to be sure.. it makes no difference, I get the same exact error message | 09:37 |
pmjdebruijn | feels like a broken installer | 09:37 |
Dr-redfield | well that's not true, the "Grapical installers are not supported..." part is now missing | 09:38 |
pmjdebruijn | of course | 09:38 |
pmjdebruijn | you can try | 09:38 |
pmjdebruijn | sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jre | 09:38 |
pmjdebruijn | and see if the installer will use the system jre instead | 09:38 |
Dr-redfield | openjdk-8-jre is already the newest version (8u121-b13-0ubuntu1.16.04.2) | 09:39 |
Dr-redfield | I tried two diffrent versions of this installer ant it's the same thing with both of them | 09:39 |
Dr-redfield | and I am pretty sure I have installed this on a ubuntu machine before | 09:39 |
pmjdebruijn | no clue sorry | 09:40 |
pmjdebruijn | commercial software is often quite buggy sadly | 09:40 |
pmjdebruijn | if they just offered the .jar file :) | 09:40 |
pmjdebruijn | "installers" are such a dumb idea to begin with :) | 09:40 |
Dr-redfield | yeah.. | 09:40 |
Dr-redfield | could xfce have anything to do with this? is it worth the time to try another windowmanager? | 09:41 |
Dr-redfield | since it works in ubuntu running gnome.. | 09:41 |
Dr-redfield | I'm just desperate.. | 09:42 |
pmjdebruijn | I would be honestly surprised if xfce would prevent it from being installed | 09:42 |
cfhowlett | Dr-redfield, easy to test. sudo apt install lxde. logout, choose lxde session, login | 09:42 |
Dr-redfield | I will try, just for fun | 09:43 |
Dr-redfield | hehe, no that did not work.. well *sigh* I guess I have to install a virtual Windows machine then... | 09:50 |
Dr-redfield | Thanks for your effort anyway.. really appreciate it! :) | 09:50 |
necrophcodr | Hi everyone. I'm using my Xubuntu desktop as a web development workstation, and for that, I'll be using Caddy with the DNS feature enabled. | 12:38 |
necrophcodr | This requires me to change dnsmasq configuration so that it also forwards certain requests to the Caddy DNS server and port. Well, I went and did it, and confirmed the functionality with a simple `dig` command, however it doesn't seem to work when I ping the domain, even though it points to 127.0.0.1. | 12:38 |
necrophcodr | Could anyone help me out here? | 12:38 |
necrophcodr | It works like this: | 12:40 |
necrophcodr | I have a caddy file which describes the bare basics of my web site, and it also includes a startup command that starts another caddy instance in the background, as a DNS server. | 12:40 |
necrophcodr | The DNS server then reads my handwritten DNS zone file (verified with named-checkzone) and listens on a user port. | 12:40 |
necrophcodr | I then set up a file /etc/dnsmasq.d/10-local that contains | 12:40 |
necrophcodr | server=/local/127.0.0.1#port | 12:40 |
necrophcodr | Hence, doing a simple "dig domain.local" returns the correct information, but "ping domain.local" returns: | 12:41 |
necrophcodr | ping: unknown host domain.local | 12:41 |
necrophcodr | I have finally solved it after working for a few hours | 12:54 |
necrophcodr | Turns out that it was actually due to the /etc/nsswitch.conf file: | 12:54 |
necrophcodr | hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns | 12:55 |
necrophcodr | That line ensured that the host would never be queried using the local DNS server, for some reason or other. | 12:55 |
necrophcodr | However, changing it to | 12:55 |
necrophcodr | hosts: files dns mdns4 | 12:55 |
necrophcodr | Solves the issue, although I'm not sure if it would be the correct solution. | 12:55 |

xubuntu50w | i was trying to install ms office. I do install playonlinux and then winetricks | 19:19 |
xubuntu50w | but nothing work | 19:20 |
knome | xubuntu50w, is there a specific reason you absolutely need MS office for? | 19:20 |
knome | xubuntu50w, libreoffice is available in the repositories, it'll work much smoother and has all the same features - and can open/save in MS formats without problems in most cases | 19:20 |
xubuntu50w | yes, i need to open and edit some ms office docs and then resend | 19:21 |
xubuntu50w | to my partners | 19:21 |
knome | as i said, libreoffice can do that without problems in most cases | 19:22 |
knome | have you tried it? | 19:22 |
xubuntu50w | nop | 19:22 |
xubuntu50w | i didint yet | 19:22 |
xubuntu50w | iĺl give a try | 19:23 |
knome | i recommend doing that | 19:23 |
xubuntu50w | iĺl let you know | 19:23 |
xubuntu50w | thanx knome | 19:23 |
xubuntu50w | i have a last question, if i edit ms office doc on libreoffice doesnt change any config on the document? like fonts, page layout, etc? | 19:27 |
knome | no, but it's possible that with complex documents some visual effects might be a bit off; but you need to try it to know | 19:27 |
xubuntu50w | thanks a lot | 19:27 |
xubuntu50w | have a good day | 19:28 |
