ricotzrtg, hi, I noticed the "Ubuntu-hwe-edge-4.10.0-9.11_16.04.2" tag but afaics there is no uploaded package13:23
rtgricotz, it is still in the CKT PPA13:24
rtgppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa13:24
ricotzrtg, hmm, no it isnt, that is why I am asking ;)13:24
ricotzsorry, wrong tag, I meant "Ubuntu-lts-4.10.0-11.13_16.04.1"13:25
ricotzhttps://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/xenial/log/?h=hwe-edge13:25
rtgricotz, hwe-edge tracks the kernel that is in the Zesty release pocket. I won't upload again until the next Zesty kernel in proposed is promoted. In the meantime I'm getting the current hwe-edge kernel reviewd and (hopefully soon) promoted to the Xenial archive13:28
ricotzrtg, I see, so despite it was tagged there was no actual upload?13:30
rtgricotz, nope, I was probably on autopilot at the time13:30
ricotzrtg, ok13:31

ad-n770good morning, I'm reading at zesty release notes (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ZestyZapus/ReleaseNotes) that kernel 4.9 is referred but seems that master branch at git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-zesty does build kernel 4.10.017:34
apwad-n770, that would have been for a beta or something, it is going to be a 4.1017:35
apwthe release notes are a live thing as we move through the varous phases17:35
ad-n770that's good17:35
ad-n770I'd would like to use 4.10 earlier in some ubuntu 16.04 systems, I mean before 16.04.3 hwe 17:36
ad-n770there's any trick to install the zesty kernels into 16.04 systems that I could use ?17:37
ad-n770or I should build my own package under 16.04 instead ?17:37
rtgad-n770, there is an hwe-edge kernel at ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa that is v4.10 based17:38
ad-n770mmm, given that I'm going to push this kernel package in some production systems I think that I want to have a much tighter control on the what is exactly installed17:44
ad-n770so probably I will go by building the kernel myself17:45
ad-n770should be enough to build from git in 16.04 or do you tend to add extra patches for hwe kernels ?17:45
rtgad-n770, the only changes to hwe kernels is usually related to packaging17:47
apwad-n770, it is mostly just has the right depends for the older release, that one might have a revert or two for toolchain differences17:47
ad-n770understood, thanks a lot for the information 17:47
relliskamal et al. Just wanted to let you guys know we've had the test aws kernel with 3.2.2 ixgbevf and 1.1.2 ena drivers and haven't had any issues  so far19:34
relliswe have the test kernel on some r4's (use ena driver) and c3's (uses ixgbevf).. probably 10-15 hosts total now19:35
kamalrellis, excellent, thanks very much for the feedback on that19:36
rellisfor sure, thanks very much for making the test version available in your ppa. also please don't take it away because i have a bunch of machines using it :)19:37
rellisany idea when i might need to look to move from your ppa back over to the mainline linux-aws ?19:37
kamalrellis, the switch to ixgbevf-3.2.2-k is still "under consideration", so honestly no I can't give any kind of projection there19:40
rellisokay cool19:40
rellisjust thought id ask19:40
ad-n770I'm not sure if I understand correctly the new rolling policy https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/RollingLTSEnablementStack19:44
ad-n770does it mean that at 17.04 time the 16.04 repository will have -ga 4.4 -hwe 4.8 and -hwe-edge 4.10 ?19:45
ad-n770or 4.10 will be only available for 16.04 about three months later for 16.04.3 release ?19:54
apwad-n770, i believe it means both, that -hwe-edge will be 4.10 at 17.04 release, and -hwe will be 4.10 at .319:57
ad-n770good19:57
ad-n770mmm, then maybe I only need to wait a couple of months to get 4.10 availability in Ubuntu 16.04 19:58
