TartanHi who's all here?14:24
lotuspsychjeTartan: 267 users are14:25
TartanHas anyone got some experience configuring a CUPS printer server on UbuntuTOUCH?14:26
nemgunTartan, https://www.howtoforge.com/ipp_based_print_server_cups14:28
TartanRight, but I'm having difficulty implementing the hplip driver library to give support for my speciifc printer model.14:31
dobeyyou need to set it up inside a libertine container or a chroot, really14:34
TartanI have done that. but AFAIK hplip is a GUI program which doesn't seem to function inside a libertine container or it's terminal.14:40
bregmaTartan, do you have a bug on that?14:45
Tartan_I haven't raised a bug report, no, one might already exist.14:49
Tartan_Another question I have is anybody else having trouble viewing Facebook on the M10?15:00
Tartan_All the text is displayed with no spaces justlikethisarghhorribletoread.15:00
dobeyi don't have an m10 or use facebook, but i haven't seen any other complaints about a problem like that15:03
Tartan_Right, but it isn't just FB. Recently it's affected sites which must be based on a similar protocol although off the top of my head I can't name any.15:08
Tartan_Quite an annoying problem, need to find more of the symptoms for a bug report.15:08
Tartan_For example I see it affects the "give gold" feature on Reddit.15:12
dobeyin which browser?15:27
Tartan_Default browser, it doesn't affect Firefox. But Firefox is slower so I can't just switch all my browsing to it.15:28
dobeyoSoMoN: ^^ seen/heard anything like this?15:30
Tartan_This only came up as a problem a few days ago for me. Can anyone else with an M10 test it?15:30
Tartan_Oh, it also affects webapps for the same sites I guess because webapps are based on the browser.15:31
Tartan_And it doesn't occur on my Meizu MX4.15:38
oSoMoNdobey, nope, never heard of this15:42
oSoMoNTartan_, which channel/image?15:42
Tartan_15.04 stable, is that Freiza?15:43
dobeyfreiza is the device name. stable is the channel15:46
Tartan_Also, numbers display weird. They're in white text within cyan coloured circles.15:47
Tartan_Right, my bad.15:47
Tartan_Any ideas, guys?15:55
dobeysorry no, that is really weird. no idea what would cause that16:03
Tartan_I have been getting libertine containers being inexplicably destroyed and the root system is starting to fill up, but neither of those things should be affecting a mobile browser.16:07
dobeyTartan_: are you deleting ~/.cache/ or something? that's where the containers get stored16:37
dobeyand the root system shouldn't be filling up, unless you intentionally made it read-write and trying to use apt or something16:38
Tartan_I don't think it's that, I think it's when the system hangs while I have a desktop app open. Or if I quit the app from the Unity launcher rather than from itself, or something.16:57
Tartan_I think all the "deceased" containers accumulate and end up wasting filespace, so I'm going to delete their footprints.16:58
Tartan_I had two containers because the default Desktop Applications container didn't let me add other apps to it,but when it died and I recreated it, well I guess if I have all the dependencies in one container only, that's again less of a footprint.16:59
nemgun1i wanted to ask about some development news regarding applications in ubuntu touch17:09
nemgun1i am waiting for the app environment to grow in order to start using it (even if i don't really need them)17:09

larrypricehmm i flashed my m10 to 16.04 a while back, and now it seems that i can't flash it back to the vivid-based touch images using ubuntu-device-flash... anyone have exp?17:42
davmor2larryprice: with the device turned on and booted into ubuntu, run the command with --wipe rather than --bootstrap and see if that gets you to a vivid base17:46
larrypricethat sounds familiar... /me tries it17:47
larrypricedavmor2, well i keep running into the issue where it says "Rebooting into recovery to flash" and then does nothing17:48
dobeynemgun1: if you have a particular question, just ask it17:49
davmor2larryprice: hmm it should do :(17:50
nemgun1well, let's say i have a program, made for debian, can i apt-get it in touch ? and run it ? can i compile using touch ? can i run nodejs ? nginx ?17:51
dobeynemgun1: yes/no. phones/tablets are designed with a read-only root fs due to limited storage space, and the way phones are partitioned. you can install anything you want that's in the ubuntu archive and on the architecture, in a libertine container or chroot, though18:01
dobeynemgun1: interaction models on phones/tablets are also very different from PCs, so legacy apps may not work well once you do get them installed in a container18:01
nemgun1dobey, i can do near everything using termux on android18:02
dobeyyou can build a package for the app store though, and use nodejs or whatever else you want, shipping what you need in the package, and add some UI designed to work on the phone to use it (or for node apps just treat it like a webapp)18:03
nemgun1dobey, ubuntu touch is my hope to get a ubuntu core with me everywhere available on sight18:03
dobeynemgun1: ok18:03
dobeyphones/tablets (and ubuntu core) are not the same as traditional ubuntu installs on PCs though.18:03
dakerQuestion: does anyone know if there is a way to tell ubuntu-core(on rpi) to autostart a gui app18:04
daker?18:04
nemgun1dobey, sadly yes *sight* will it happen one day ?18:04
dobeynemgun1: ubuntu on PCs will become more like ubuntu on phones/tablets/iot in the future; not the reverse18:05
bregmadaker, what display server are you running on Ubuntu Core?18:07
nemgun1dobey, then i think it is time for me to moove to archlinux18:07
dakerbregma: well their is this mir-kiosk thing18:08
dobeydaker: pmcgowan was playing with something like that, i think18:08
dakerdobey: yes i have seen that & planning to use it, my question was how to tell ubuntu-core to autolaunch the app18:09
pmcgowandaker, have you tried just making it a simple daemon?18:09
dobeypmcgowan: did you get the issues resolved with that?18:10
dobeyie it launching before mir was up and stuff18:10
dakerpmcgowan: no yet, any docs on that ?18:10
pmcgowandobey, I never had that specific issue, works for me18:11
pmcgowandaker, let me check18:11
larrypricei played with that a while back too - i used mircade as a building block (https://github.com/alangriffiths/mircade)18:11
dakerpmcgowan: thanks18:11
dobeyhuh ok18:12
pmcgowandaker, https://snapcraft.io/docs/build-snaps/metadata18:12
pmcgowanthats an odd url for it18:12
dobeycould've sworn you were having issues with mir not being up, or MIR_SOCKET and such not set, because of that18:12
pmcgowandobey, oh I did on classic18:13
pmcgowandobey, worked around in my startup script for testing18:13
pmcgowandaker, I use   daemon: simple   restart-condition: always18:14
pmcgowanbut lots of options18:14
dobeyoh18:14
pmcgowandobey, jdstrand added some code to loop waiting for mir_socket but I never found the need18:15
pmcgowanon core18:15
dakerpmcgowan: thanks, i'll give it a try18:15
