[00:01] Anyone tinkered with LXC? [00:01] I want to limit the amount of swap space a container can use [00:01] I got it limiting the RAM [00:24] nvm, figured it out. it was a kernel boot parameter [08:27] hi [08:27] morning [08:28] SuperMatt, morning [09:01] morning boys and girls. [09:03] Morning all [09:06] morning davmor2 [09:10] hey brobostigon how's life? [09:10] brobostigon, hi purple blob :d [09:11] davmor2: good really, and you? [09:11] SebthreeBQM10HD: hi yellow blob. [09:11] SebthreeBQM10HD: how do [09:12] brobostigon: good thanks [09:12] davmor2: :) [09:18] brobostigon, hi pink thing :d [09:19] davmor2, hows ubuntu touch anything interesting going on? nope? [09:21] if by touch you mean personal then there are lots of important things happening moving over to snap and over coming confinement issues there, getting desktop ready and lots of other stuff [09:22] davmor2, yeah ok snaps, but what else? unity etc? [09:23] touch is stand still whilst waiting [09:25] SebthreeBQM10HD: no that is it, it is getting desktop parity and snapified [09:34] davmor2, desktop parity what does that really mean ? [09:34] * TwistedLucidity misread davmor2's comment as "personal touching" and thought he was in the wrong channel for a moment.... [09:34] davmor2, just the d esktop and mobile being more in sync same thing ? [09:35] Good morning all! Happy Tuesday, and happy Single Parents' Day! 😃 [09:35] SebthreeBQM10HD: it means than in order for unity8 to replace unity7 it needs to be on par with unity7 which it currently isn't [09:36] davmor2, ah yeah you mean support most of the smae features etc, yeah yeah [09:36] davmor2, so unity 8 preview in 11.04 what's that like? the desktop 16.10 didn't have much by default [09:36] I mean by default [09:36] whats the 11.04 one like ? [09:38] SebthreeBQM10HD: well 11.04 is quite old and never likely to get unity8, 17.04 however is much better than previous releases but still not quite there yet [09:38] but should be in much better shape :) [09:39] davmor2, oh I put 11.04 by mistake, yes I meant 17.04 [10:06] morning all [10:09] Morning MooDoo [10:18] davmor2: how are you man? [10:19] MooDoo: Good ta, you? [10:27] yeah good thanks mate [10:32] morning slackers [10:33] morning popey [10:36] popey: Promoting another distro? SPLITTER! [10:38] TwistedLucidity: no popey is right, I'm not doing any work ;) [10:39] promoting another web based chat client :) [10:40] popey: no you'd of gone with rocket.chat if you were doing that [10:40] Morning popey 'ow am ya? [10:47] i never use rocketchat [10:47] people I talk to are all on slack [10:52] popey: shame on you especially with snapcraft being so active on rocket.ubuntu.com [10:53] don't blame me, it's the people I talk to [10:53] they chose it, not me [10:57] Could be worse, you could be using "Skype for Business" [10:57] * TwistedLucidity starts to sob [11:00] there does seem to be a bit of a drive on for a dumber worse way to do irc now [11:04] can haz android nougat [11:24] IRC doesn't intergrate with Outlook Calendar. Doesn't do video conferences. Is therefore clearly unsuable. [12:00] I feel your pain. Skype for Business is terrible. [12:02] so [12:02] as a microsoft employee [12:02] i want to apologise for s4b [12:02] which is a dumpster fire [12:03] okay, not really, for many people. but it's not something i enjoy using. [12:07] directhex: hahahaha [12:52] directhex: Since you claim to work for MS, can you please ask the guys in charge to allow us to choose if and when we get updates in 10? :) [12:53] don't you just change the network connection to metered to stop 90% of the updates? [12:53] you can already control that if you can learn to drive an OS [12:53] or has that already changed? [12:53] not my department [12:53] zmoylan-pi: yep that's changing in the build coming in April :D [12:53] apparently it will now suck down 'critical' updates regardless of metered status... [12:54] and that's why i use linux... learn the commands once in the 70s for unix and stick with them... :-P [12:54] think you're wrong there, they're constantly changing and the inconsistency is what makes Linux a bit of a joke [12:54] zmoylan-pi: I'd be using Ubuntu full time today, if there was full support for SteamVR. [12:55] hands out the obsolete java manuals for rampaging mob to chuck at daftykins :-P [12:55] :D [12:56] and no one is throw one at daftykins until i blow this whistle even and i want to make it absolutely clear, even if daftykins says microsoft [12:57] yes! hurl projectiles at the microsoft fan! [12:57] i'm no MS fan, just unlike most folks in here i see the bs from all the OSs [12:57] * zmoylan-pi listens to the thundering of manuals bouncing off directhex.... [12:57] stop it stop it stop it [12:57] and am honest about it :) [12:59] zmoylan-pi: did you run the targeting systems from your Pi again!? [12:59] no, it's busy calcualting pi... #irony [13:01] it's pi all the way down... [13:09] I'll write my own OS, with Blackjack and Hookers! [13:09] :D [13:09] Eh, forget the whole thing. [13:10] i'm very curious to see what swatch do for an os [13:10] are they aiming to make some of these silly smart watches? [13:10] either completely terrible or fantastically swiss... [13:10] yup [13:10] blech :P [13:11] https://goo.gl/maps/kDzR9nBTpTz [13:11] they've faced disaster before when the digital watch came around and reinvented themselves very well [13:11] cor i'm not sure i can cope with the potential distance from my house to these apartments whilst i'm moved out for the insurance work... [13:14] 118 foot climb on the bike perhaps :> [13:16] tis the 21st century... get a hover board... :-P [13:16] i could but it'd burn the whole island down [13:16] plus just think what it would do to my street cred! [13:16] would keep you warm till spring kicks in... [13:18] the sun appears to be out and beaming here on the rock today! [13:19] was like that here yesterday too... we still had a weather warning for snow and cold... [13:19] hrmm on checking the forecast it's barely nudging into 2 digits temp wise [13:21] 3c outside allegedly... https://isitraining.in/dublin [13:22] feels warmer... [13:34] Oooh, I wonder whether they have a page for Ystrad Mynach [13:35] https://isitraining.in/Ystrad [13:39] It gets FlatHolm wrong, puts me in the Aland Islands. [13:39] That's a neat idea though. [13:40] that and a page for nearest bus stops on a nice screen on a wall constantly updating would be handy as you leave the house [13:40] :> [13:41] but obviously converted to green text scrolling on black background because you have standards... :-P [13:46] Nice. http://isitraining.in/Skuvoy [13:49] i always keep an eye on... https://isitraining.in/oymyakon [13:50] -27C is a bit nippy. [13:50] that means spring has arrived... it gets much much colder than that in winter [13:51] * lopta makes a note never to move there. [13:51] great place for a server farm... [13:51] or bitcoin mining [13:52] but when summer arrives it will be hotter than dublin... [13:52] if i have french doors that lock in the middle, are they central rail key operated lock or door with multi-point locking e.g. UPVC door [13:53] i mean they are the latter, but don't know if they are also the former [13:53] what's the context of that query? you kinda dropped us in it... [13:54] Yeah, that's not a Linuxy question. [13:54] getting house insurance [13:54] :) [13:54] i think its not a central rail lock [13:54] that sounds like sliding patio doors [13:55] burglars just smashed the glass in the patio doors the other day in the beieghbours house :| [13:55] one way to do it i guess [13:55] oof [13:55] just nicked passports and money [13:55] and jewellery [13:56] wow, new price £102 [13:56] pretty good [13:57] barclays want 279 [13:57] that's your full home insurance? D: [13:57] buildings and contents [13:57] mines about £400 [13:57] yeah, wonder whats happened [13:57] mine used to be £400 [13:58] i think i misunderstood definition of mortice lock once and i got penalised with a high figure [13:58] because i said i didn't have one. but they are chubb locks [14:01] Home Emergency Cover [14:01] Add annually £57.20 / monthly (12 x £4.77 excluding interest) [14:01] Cover for emergencies such as a central heating breakdown or a broken front-door lock. [14:01] sounds a lot of money [14:04] foobarry: look up the cost of a boiler and figure out how long you would have to pay that before it totalled the cost of the boiler and then figure out if it is worth it :) [14:05] i don't think it covers boiler maintenance [14:05] would have to read small print [14:05] foobarry: no but it covers breakdown if the boiler needs replacing it should cover that [14:05] and the consequence of making a claim... [14:12] maintenance != emergency callouts [14:14] unless you're on super top tier maintenance plan... ker-ching [14:43] morning [15:01] 21 Mar 17 9:15 PM - Clearance processing complete - HONG KONG,HONG KONG [15:01] it's gonna go on a boat next, maybe plane [15:02] then to the centre of the earth! [15:02] :-o [15:02] doesn't china now have a train that goes all the way to uk? [15:02] surely that's not your NICs from New Jersey? :> [15:02] no, I'm not getting updates for the nics [15:02] this is the transceivers [15:04] ah [15:04] * diddledan makes a point of mentioning that he spelt that correctly this time :-p [15:04] i noticed! [15:07] who are you and what did you do with the real diddledan?! :-) [15:12] aha, my network cards: Tuesday, 21. Mar. 2017 1:49 AM Erlanger , Kentucky Customs Documentation and Labeling [15:13] so far they've gone New Jersey -> Ohio -> Kentucky [15:18] doesn't the nsa have a place in new jersey... :-P [15:19] diddledan: what're all the toys of benefit for then, sounds like the beginnings of a DIY vmware lab setup or some such? [15:19] you starting hosting from home? :D [15:19] yup, vmware [15:28] Hi there. I have a Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS dedicated server with OVH that allows multiple IP addresses, each with an associated MAC address. I can't find the correct mantra to get more than one IP address at a time working - as soon as I activate one the others stop being accessible from the outside world. [15:29] talk to OVH - it may be specific to their setup [15:29] standard rules do not apply when it's a hosting setup, given it's in their domain [15:29] the other way to look at it is that folks in here are not getting paid to assist, whilst your provider is :) [15:30] The problem isn't OVH, it's me figuring out what I need to put in /etc/network/interfaces to allow multiple mac addresses [15:31] right, and you pay them for a service [15:31] so call up / raise a ticket / something :) [15:41] http://help.ovh.co.uk/ConfigureAdditionlIP [16:00] hello pavlushka [16:00] Hello lopta [16:03] lopta: how can I help you , Sir? [16:05] i think it was just the greeting [16:05] pavlushka: I don't know. Are you any good at car repairs? ;-) [16:05] daftykins: ok, then :) [16:06] lopta: I can watch repairing attentively for sure, will that help? [16:07] * lopta grins [16:26] transceivers: 21 Mar 17 4:10 PM - Customs status updated - LONDON-HEATHROW,UNITED KINGDOM [16:26] ooh [16:35] nics are in the air: Tuesday, 21. [19:37] omg, I forgot that Ireland will be unable to sell us their spuds! [19:38] or at the very least the prices will go up [19:38] the spudinator 3000 will sort that... [19:38] we'll have to pay import duty [19:39] ship homing pigeons to uk, release pigeon with valuables and lat long attached... wait... [19:40] how accurate is it? I mean can we use it to quietly assassinate people like Nigel Farage? [19:40] well like the v2 it probably can just about hit a city... unless we grow mutant perfectly oval spuds with fins for stablising spin... [19:41] or we can cheat and just grow the spuds in molds like the square watermelons they have in japan... [19:41] or the bonsaikittens? [19:42] do not google that. it's bad. [19:42] test [19:42] hi :) [19:42] fail [19:43] oh ok, then i better go and reinstall :S [19:43] thx [20:09] diddledan: bonsai kittens were cool, back in the old days [20:09] so many outraged people [20:09] (so many people pointed at the FAQ) [20:22] "Enterprise companies must deliver exceptional experiences at scale or risk losing customers to competitors" <-- when does a business become an enterprise business? [20:24] e.g. what constitutes "enterprise" vs every other company? [20:24] they run them for their personal starships... :-P [20:25] what is the defining characteristic of an enterprise? [20:25] how do I know, e.g., if I'm talking to an enterprise or a boring run-of-the-mill business? [20:30] they'll be wearing a better suit that you are :-) [20:45] I propose a rule: if you want to call your software "Enterprise", it should be useful on the starship [20:47] * zmoylan-pi writes software to make monitors explode... :-P === webpigeon_ is now known as webpigeon [22:12] well, things are working well, trying to expand my raid array, added the new drive and ran grow, mdstat says speed=0K/sec and it'll finish in 175 billion minutes. [22:31] \o/ [22:32] 175 billion minutes. that's one or two years [22:32] for bonus points, I googled for a solution and found http://serverfault.com/questions/833557/software-raid5-reshape-at-0k-sec-after-attempting-to-grow [22:32] ran that, machine instantly crashed. [22:35] Azelphur: is the raid array still intact after the crash? [22:36] diddledan: I dunno, I have been leaving the machine and seeing if it comes back [22:36] I don't think it's gonna, probably need to hard shutdown :( [22:36] nothing on the display output, not responding to ping, nor ssh.
