cablophello19:02
cablopany Neon user here?19:02
various_accountsnot using it right now cablop , but I do use it on another PC19:05
various_accountswhat's up?19:05
cablopvarious_accounts, well, i want to know Neon configuration in regard to GTK apps19:06
cablopit happens that i installed Neon on top of Kubuntu, then many many icons on GTK apps just dissapeared19:07
cablopi reverted Neon back to Kubuntu and the icons appeared again, then re-enabled Neon repository and installed again... and again, the icons are gone19:08
cablopso i want to know what are the Neon settings about it19:09
various_accountscablop: I'm not sure what you mean19:09
various_accountswhat exactly do you want to configure?19:09
cablopNeon has some settings for GTK, about appearance and icons19:09
cablopi want to set them as expected for Neon, because Kubuntu options work bad for that19:09
various_accountsoh, try changing the theme19:10
cablopi tried, with no luck19:10
cablopmy guess is Neon installs some theme, when installed clean, but not when just enabling the repo19:11
cablopand i can't find the right package to add to my system19:11
various_accountstry noting the icon theme being used in Kubuntu19:12
various_accountsMaybe Neon applies its own theme19:12
various_accountsit's in system settings -> Appearance -> Icons19:12
various_accountsif you're on Neon right now, try changing it to Oxygen or something similar19:12
various_accountsah, sadly I can't help you there19:13
various_accountsmaybe somebody else can19:13
various_accountscablop: I followed https://gist.github.com/nihathrael/7429eeb8d539c4c8e0ade03269b3f95a19:14
various_accountsDidn't have problems19:14
various_accountsMaybe `neon-desktop` is what you need19:14
various_accountsgood luck19:15
cablopi installed it, with no luck19:16
cablopi'm afraid that package, being a GTK thing, is not part of the neon-desktop dependencies19:16
various_accountsMaybe downloading an icon theme will help, but I have no idea19:17
various_accountsgood luck, mate19:17
cablopok, thanks for your help19:23
=== kubuntu is now known as jjman
jjmanhi.  i need help.  I'm struggling to get 16.10 to install w/ a manual partition setup.  Using UEFI.  GPT partitions.  I have tried every possible combination of manual installs and nothing works.  but if i use a guided it works.20:20
jjmanI've manually partitioned for over 10yrs.  but 1st time i've had to deal w/ UEFI.  its a nightmare.20:21
jjmanI even try to duplicate exactly what the guided setup used but manually and it doesn't work.  so something must be broken in the installer.20:22
jjmantrying to run boot-repair to see if it helps.  it says it needs a bios-grub partition  which as i understand is only necessary for legacy Bios mode.20:28
=== kubuntu is now known as jjman
jjmanI think secure boot is whats causing me problems.  So i'm getting a boot & app menu and i can't go past it. It lists Ubuntu  but it won't load.    I can't get into my bios anymore either.  Now that this retarded UEFI is blocking it21:13
jjmanI have tried every single F key to get into bios and it no longer works.  Its supposed to be F2  but it doesn't work.21:14
sintrehmm the kiwi webirc client from site seems to be having some hicups21:24
valoriejjman: you may have to use the live session to go in and fix stuff21:28
valorieor redo the install21:28
valoriesounds really hosed21:28
brian|lfsminor bug I noticed on 17.04 /sbin/ldconfig.real: /usr/lib/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1 is not a symbolic link21:50
brian|lfsand my touchpad still don't seem to work on any linux distro rather strange and annoying I tried many things21:50
brian|lfsit seems as though no one made a driver for it for the kernel or mayberr usb 3.1 is buggy21:51
valoriebrian|lfs: please report those bugs on LP21:51
valorieeasy way: `ubuntu-bug packagename` in the commandline21:52
valoriefor other questions about zesty please ask in #ubuntu+121:52
jjmanvalorie:  i'm in live session.  I've reinstalled over a dozen times.  The ONLY thing that works is installing with a guided setup.  don't know why.  Even when i duplicate manually partitions.  it won't boot past what apparently is my Samsung Boot menu.21:57
jjmanBut wondering why i can no longer get into my bios now to make changes.   Can't find a firmware update for it either.  Sounds like someone else had similiar problem w/ the Samsung Cronos laptops.21:59
valorieso why do you want to manually install rather than guided?21:59
jjmanBecause.  guided is useless to me.  I have been doing manual partitioning for 15years.  why would i start putting everything on ONE partition now22:00
valorieah22:00
valorie!efi22:01
ubottuUEFI is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware. It is meant as a replacement for the BIOS. For information on how to set up and install Ubuntu and its derivatives on UEFI machines please read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI22:01
jjmani usually do dual boot.  but my MBR got hosed thanks to windows.  so i had to toast the HD and start over.  and set everything up in UEFI.  but its causing me nothing but pain22:01
jjmanand i have a hybrid HD which has a portion SSD and the rest HDD22:01
valorie"if Ubuntu is the only operating system on your computer, then it does not matter whether you install Ubuntu in UEFI mode or not"22:02
jjmanso i was trying to setup all the boot stuff on the SSD portion.22:02
jjmanbut even if i ignore the ssd portion it won't work in manual mode.22:02
valorieI'm wondering why you set up uefi if you aren't dual booting?22:02
jjmanWell i can no longer get into my bios to even make changes.22:03
jjmanI may still dual boot.  but not right now because my dvdRom drive stopped working so i can't install windows22:03
brian|lfsmatter of opinion if UEFI works use it22:03
jjmanor i may just use windows in VM.22:05
valoriejjman: did you try the shift+restart option that page shows?22:05
jjmanhmm i have tried shift.  and that didn't do anythig22:06
valorie:(22:07
valoriejjman: this is the most complete guide to UEFI I've found so far: http://www.rodsbooks.com/linux-uefi/22:10
jjmanok  i'll take a look.22:12
jjmanso does grub care if its on sda or sdb22:13
jjmanand from what i've read efi doesn't care which drive its on.  u can have 1 efi partition per drive22:13
jjmangoing to reboot and try something else.22:16

steve__In Plasma 5.9.4, is there a way to set a monitor to default?23:36
steve__Multiple monitor support seems horribly broken23:36
valoriesteve__: have you tried kscreen?23:38
* valorie just uses a laptop23:38
steve__I don't see any obvious GUI indications that a default monitor can be set. Not even a  "read me" indication of what the existing options do.23:38
steve__valorie: No, not yet.23:38
steve__I think the entire KDE team uses a laptop.23:38
valorieI see photos of people's multi-screen setups all the time23:39
valorieso I know they work for at least some devels23:39
valoriethat said, I hear grumbling about Qt defaults as well23:39
steve__Oh, there is no contestation, it's broken. That said, I'm just trying to make it work. Right now, when I turn on my monitors, it's a roll of the dice as to which panel or widget lands on which monitor.23:43
valorie:(23:45
steve__For some reason I cannot get the mouse settings to apply either.  The cursor is always has the same default settings no matter what I set in "Mouse - System Settings - Advanced"23:47
valorieyou might check permissions in your home folder23:48
valoriesometimes some folder or file gets set to root inadvertantly23:48
valorieperhaps running some gui application as root23:48
valorie`chown -R username folder/` or so23:49
valoriewon't hurt, might help23:50
steve__Well, chown -R $USER ~ didn't hurt, but didn't help. :-/23:54
valorie:(23:57
valorieit was worth a try; sorry it didn't help23:57
