steve__No, thank you for the suggestion, it was worth a try.00:02
steve__The mouse settings though, those are a killer. I can live with the lack of proper multi monitor support, but he mouse.00:03
steve__I wonder if anyone uses the default mouse settings.00:04
steve__They would be awesome at 640x480 :-)00:04
valoriehmm, I only occasionally use a mouse, and it always works fine00:05
valorieusually just use the touchpad00:05
steve__That might be different, not sure. The mouse was working fine With Plasma 5.8.x  and all the way down to whatever Ubuntu 16.04 LTS ships with.00:06

Duiker101hey guys, I have a logitech g930 headset, it works very well on ubuntu but if I switch desktop enviroment to plasma it stops working. It's still listed as a device but just doesn't reproduce. Any ideas?09:34

TottelYo guys, I got my notifications position in the top centre of the screen, tho if I get multiple notifications and it stacks downwards, the position kind of changes to the middle of the screen untill I relog. I'm getting all new not's in the middle of the screen after that. Can this be resvoled somehow?09:40
yossarianukhi - I have just bought a new GPU (1060) it works great in DVI mode, however if I use in HDMI i my monitior SDDM and KDE the text is insanely large and xrandr thinks the monitor is a lot smaller that it is09:42
yossarianukcould this be a cable issue ?09:42
yossarianukI also noticed in gnome the text scaling actually works but detects the monitor as a 7 inch monitor rather than 22 inch in DVI09:43
yossarianukThe same thing occured with my old card (450) - is this a Linux/software issue, a monitor issue (monitor is fairly old but does 1080p) or might it be a cable issue >?09:44
BluesKajHey folks10:23
sgfkhello, all of the kde appliactions, system settings, dolphin, etc are unresponsive after moving my computer. does anyone have any idea what this might be? Chrome/skype are working reasonably well and the 'start' menu also seems good11:16
BluesKajsgfk, moving your computer shouldn't affect your system settings unless you had a change in updates/upgrades or hardware.11:19
sgfkhm, i figured so. it must be a hardware thing. if so, this is the wrong place to ask and troubleshoot?11:22
PreppieHey guys11:47
PreppieHow do I turn off the sound played when I change the volume?11:47
PreppieI couldn't find it in the settings anywhere11:48
hateballI dont think there even is a sound by default11:49
hateballPreppie: Are you talking about the volume applet?11:49
hateballOr is this inside some application11:49
PreppieYep11:49
PreppieVolume Applet11:49
PreppieThat blip sound you get when you turn the volume up or down11:49
PreppieI want to turn that off11:50

ubottuibliss: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)11:58
PreppieThe only item in the list is Audio Output Device Changed so I don't think it would make much sense to disable sounds there11:59
PreppieI'll look around a bit11:59
PreppieFound it. Right-click sound icon > Audio Volume Settings > Volume Feedback12:02
Preppie^^ In case anyone else has the same problem12:03
BluesKajPreppie, no such dialog on kubuntru,12:06
PreppieOh! I thought Mint KDE and Kubuntu would be quite similar12:07
BluesKajbetter check with  #linuxmint-help on irc.spotchat.org12:07
user|9672Hello, I want to set up linux on fujitsu AH530... Whether anyone can recomend me something about this, I'll be very glad.12:24
hateballuser|9672: Does the installation not work?12:25
user|9672I have never tryed Linux and I just want to start.12:26
hateballuser|9672: Well it's not really much to it. Download the Kubuntu ISO, burn to media of choice, and then boot it up12:28
hateballuser|9672: And then you can see if your hardware works as expected without installing first12:28

remi__hello. Do you know why the "show desktop grid" in kwin would stop working? I have checked the shortcut, uninstalled video drivers, reinstalled... It also breaks functionality in latte dock. Kwin seems fine otherwise. Any help would be greatly appreciated!17:11
BluesKajremi__, system settings>desktop behaviour>desktop effects>window management17:18
BluesKajoops sorry remi__ I thought you meant it was missing ..nevermind17:19
remi__BluesKaj: no it's there, and the box is ticked. Thanks for taking the time though.17:21
BluesKajremi__, which plasma version ?17:22
remi__BluesKaj: Kubuntu 16.10 Plasma 5.8.5 Kde Frameworks 5.28.017:23
remi__I use the kubuntu backports repository because I wanted to use Latte Dock. It worked fine for a while.17:24
BluesKajhmm, did you install the frameworks ppa or other staging ppas?17:24
remi__BluesKaj: only the backport ppa17:26
remi__but it worked for like a week before I couldn't use "desktop grid" anymore17:26
remi__I'm trying to find a kwin log right now17:27

BluesKajprospective, most users here do18:20
prospectivewould you recommend 17.04, or 16.10? about to set up a dual boot18:21
BluesKajprospective, is this a production/on the job machine or a home user?18:23
prospectivehome. I've had issues with nvidia drivers, requiring me to boot with the 'nomodeset' option as well.18:23
BluesKajprospective, 17.04 will be released in a month or so , it's still in beta , so expect breakage18:24
prospectivecan you update from beta to release w/o reinstall?18:24
BluesKajprospective, yes18:24
prospectiveexcellent. any progress on nvidia drivers? can I easily install proprietary now? nouveau performance is awful on 9-series and up.18:26

robotics_flohello to everyone. i just installed kubuntu on a chuwi lapbook 14 and everithing works like a charm except the touchpad wich is detected as a mouse. everything works even gestures but it isn't disabled during typing so i get random clicks because of that. can someone help me20:54
Rickyroller5So I upgraded my Kubuntu 15.04, and now Youtube videos will not play. Suggestions?21:21
valorieRickyroller5: 15.04 is EOL21:28
valorie!eol21:28
ubottuEnd-Of-Life is the time when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more information. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades21:28
valorieI suggest a more up-to-date install, or upgrade, upgrad, upgrade21:28
valorieto 16.04 which is LTS21:28
robotics_flohello . i'm using kde plasma 5.9.4 and when i try to use global menu with atom text editor the cpu gows up to 60% of ussage. is there any way i can blaclist atom from global menu?21:32
valoriewhat is the atom editor?21:32
Rickyroller5Thx, I think I will do that.21:32
valorieok, looked it up, robotics_flo21:33
valorieany reason you want that one?21:33
valorieI'm not sure what you mean by "global menu" either21:34
valorierobotics_flo: ?21:35
valoriecrossposting makes those of us who try to help quite cross21:35
robotics_flo@valorie it is the men integrated in the panel instead of the app window. i've been a long time unity user and i just got used to it21:36
robotics_flosorry for cross posting21:36
valorieso are you using Kubuntu, or?21:37
robotics_floi tried neon and just loved it. i get better performance but because of my laptop i need kernel 4.10 so im on kubuntu 17.0421:37
valorieI know there has been talk of a global menu in plasma, but afaik there is not one yet21:38
valorieok21:38

rainbloa22:54
rainblook i am having a consistent hw device conflict  in debian/ubuntu, and am wondering if someone might be able to help me figure out how to stop 2 audio devices from being loaded on boot in kubuntu 14.04 ... please22:54
valoriein Kubuntu?22:55
rainbloyeah22:55
valorieseems like you should be able to set that up in systemsettings22:55
rainbloit seems like what i want to do is simple but i cant for the life d me figure it out .. . kind of a linux beginner22:55
valorieI would press alt+space22:56
valorieand type audio22:56
valorieand see what is presented22:56
valoriesystemsettings for audio should be at the top of the list22:56
rainbloah i did that but it keeps reseting back to the onboard hdmi22:57
rainblomy whole problem is  i have 3 audio devices 2 onboard 1 on a gpu and there conflicting / causing performance issues :S22:57
valoriewell, I hope some of the folks here who know all about audio devices will chime in22:58
rainbloand bios provides a way to turn off hdmi support but it doesnt do anything22:58
valorie!audio22:59
ubottuIf you're having problems with sound see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sound - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting - For playing audio files, see !Players and !MP322:59
valoriethose might help22:59
valoriethere is a pulseaudio widget that some use which helps22:59
rainbloive been through probably 100 pages and still cant get this working ive been at it for maybe 3 days solo22:59
valoriebut darn if I can remember the name23:00
valoriesec23:00
rainblotried several different distros and everytime its the same problems23:00
rainblomy audio does play it plays well but causes the whole pc to start freezing with it not running i get some lag but not the same magnitude23:01
valorieI assume you dug into the options in the audio volume widget?23:01
rainbloyeah i have even considered rewriting the dsdt23:02
valoriepulseaudio should do what you want23:03
valorieif not pulse, then the alsa layer23:03
valoriefrom the commandline23:03
rainbloi have tried both23:05
valorie:(23:05
rainblobut the two devices are i think? linked somehow inbios or kernel23:05
valoriethen you might have to descend to the modprobe layer23:05
valoriegeez, haven't had to go there for years23:05
rainblothis is a really old board23:06
rainbloamd sb69023:06
rainblochipset23:06
valoriethen you might have to use modprobe23:06
valoriethose links above will lead there23:06
valorieI've done it and survived23:06
rainbloyeah i think your right i just dont know my way around gnu im a win guy  usually23:07
valoriewell, it's no worse than the crap windows forced me to do back in the day23:09
rainbloso quick question if i know the driver name and i know the bus / irq info is this simple to do?23:09
valoriesure23:09
rainbloim scared lmao23:09
valorieif you know your way around the commandline, and follow the directions23:09
valorieit Just Works23:09
valoriedon't just randomly google though -- use those ubuntu help pages23:10
rainbloi mean i can see with dmesg that snd_hda_intel is loaded so is nvidia hdmi and realtek ALC883 but i only want alc883 @.@23:11
valoriethat doesn't sound quite right23:14
valoriebut I'm no expert23:14
rainblobasically lsmod is telling me snd                    81920  21 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_pcm,snd_seq,snd_rawmidi,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_seq_devic23:14
valorieunless you have a dual chip system23:14
valorieI"m sorry nobody expert is stepping up23:15
rainblono worries23:15
rainbloi was just casting a line see if anyone knows anything i been at this for awhile now and every os is the same windows or linux23:16
rainblolol i have litterally tried win 7 8 xp 10 manjaro all debian distros and ubuntu23:17
valoriewow23:17
rainbloyeah its damn near insane23:18
rainblolol ^..^23:18
rainblosame exact issuee on each one too the pc runs well enough for what it is then i try to play audio and blammo cpu 100% ram 100% and just straight lag everywhere even the mouse skips23:19
geniiAre you trying to run a realtime kernel doing this or something?23:19
rainblonot that i know of23:20
rainblobut this issue shows on win too23:20
rainblouname shows this Linux lubuntu 4.4.0-70-generic #91~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP23:21
rainblois that a realtime kernel :o?23:22
rainblosee right now i have like 10 tabs open system monitor open and im running a cpuburn with no lag but if i go and play an audio file? thats wher it gets shitty....23:23
rainblomind boggling for sure23:25
rainblothanks for  the link btw i think i m,ight have figured out a direction to head in aparently i have run the cmd aplay -l and it gave an odd error not listed on that site so i guesss im back to google to figure this out23:29
rainbloanyone ever see this? "No protocol specified xcb_connection_has_error() returned true card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC883 Analog [ALC883 Analog]   Subdevices: 1/1   Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC883 Digital [ALC883 Digital]   Subdevices: 1/1   Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]   Subdevices: 1/1   Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA N23:30
valorieno protocol specified -- doesn't sound good23:33
rainbloyeah google is giving me very little info on this too23:33
valorieyou might ask in #kde and see if the experts there are any more expert23:34
valorieOR, look in the arch wikis23:35
rainblowhy does my graphics card have 4 hdmi devices in the first damn place -.- and how how i ask you does a motherboard have 2 onboard audio blargh.....23:35
valorietheir wiki for stuff like this are often superb23:35
