chaotixHi, i need a little bit of help.  I have a 2004 Compaq Presario computer that my boss has asked me to resurrect, which runs windows xp.  my plan is to put lubuntu on it, however i booted the usb, and selected english, then try first without installing.  the plymouth boot screen that says "lubuntu" loaded, and then nothing, black screen, and the computer is still on with nothing19:19
chaotixi have tried this a few times now19:19

chaotixwhen i press F1 on the plymouth flash screen in order to see yheoutput of what it is doing, everything seems fine and works up untill the lightdm stepso it seems like its graphical, right?  could it still be the hash?19:25
wxlyes19:27
lyn||ianyes having the wrong hash will make it seem like everyone is pulling their hair out trying to fix the problem and not know what it is19:37
fish__is there a way to check if hardware accel is enabled? Hate the choppy vids from xfinity :/19:40
lyn||ianfish__, in a webbrowser?19:40
fish__using playonlinux :/19:40
fish__ya firefox19:40
lyn||ianfish__ wait why are you using windows version of firefox on lubuntu?19:41
fish__xfinity told me my ff wasnt supported and google told me to use playonlinux19:41
fish__better alternative?19:42
* lyn||ian does not know much about xfinity19:44
fish__other vids play on the native ff that came with 16.04 but xfinity told me its not supported so I chose to try the play on linux ff port and it works but its terrible19:45
lyn||ianfish__, not supported does not mean doesn't work19:45
fish__as in wont play, tells me to use chrome or ff or safari19:46
fish__What I get on my system FF is this; Your system isn't compatible with XFINITY Stream For optimal performance, the following is required: Supported Operating Systems: Windows 7+, Mac OS X 10.7+ Supported Browsers: Internet Explorer 11+, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari 8+19:50
fish__Also I dont have network or lag issues, Im on a fiber connection :) so the lag/choppy I get isnt latency related19:56
lyn||ianfish__, are other streaming videos working well19:57
wxlxfinity of course doesn't support linux so19:58
fish__Yes, all others play fine, just xfinity thru playonlinus sux19:58
wxli gave up on using it, frankly19:59
fish__that sux... I really dont want to have a dual boot just to run tv... :( I dont have a cable drop, and all I got is the fiberline... which should be far more than sufficient to stream even 4k but fracking xfinity is a pos imo20:02
wxlyeah so 5.5 it is20:03
wxlwhich ppa should i use?20:03
lyn||ianwxl wrong window?20:03
lyn||ianyeah if it was coax I would get a coax splitterand use a set top box20:04
fish__dont have a tv or a box, or a drop for that matter :/20:05
lyn||ianhdmi monitor with speakers or an audio output20:05
lyn||ianI honestly thought of using a computer monitor for that with hdmi but has no speakers ande the headphone jack in the back sounds awful20:07
wxlyep thx @lyn||ian20:07
