=== Schnabeltierche- is now known as Schnabeltierchen [09:43] I wanted to ask if the newest Lubuntu distro still has ALSA as sound system? The reason I am asking is because of FireFox after 52 defaults to pulse audio. [09:58] Stiba: 16.04 does, but I always install pulseaudio [10:01] I thought that this was far from trivial, but I will give it a try. Thank you for the reply! === qwerty is now known as lxlenewbie [16:40] hello, how to have lxle 16 mount fat32 sdcard? [16:41] in general, with lxle, you need to seek support from them [16:42] that said, pcmanfm should just handle it and if not, use the mount command [16:42] thanks. i just clicked this link from their site . [16:42] yeah, i've asked them to make it more clear that this is not lxle support [16:43] actually it seems pretty clear [16:43] http://www.lxle.net/support-options/ [16:43] this problem happened for me with the livecd of lubuntu as well [16:43] "Lubuntu IRC" suggests support for Lubuntu, not LXLE [16:44] is there an sdcard slot on the machine? [16:44] in lubuntu, iclicked the microsd card and got the error [16:44] what error? [16:44] microsd card reader... yes [16:44] it won't let me copy the error .. it says something about exfat [16:45] well, without knowing the error, i can't be of much help [16:45] but i would watch /var/log/dmesg when you insert the sd card [16:46] see if you find any errors there [16:46] how do i watch that? [16:46] tail -f /var/log/dmesg [16:51] tx wxl. now it's not recognizing the microsd at all so there's nothing to click on. i tapped the microsd to eject and reinsert and it flew across the room [16:51] arghh [16:53] lxlenewbie: what about dmesg? [16:54] i typed thaat in terminal but nothing happened... a new window should open ? [16:59] i'll reboot and try again. tx [17:01] type the command [17:01] then insert the sd card [17:01] then report on what shows up [17:01] it should output in terminal [17:33] wxl ? [17:33] yes? [17:33] (you were helping me with microsd prob [17:33] here's the error: [17:34] Error mounting /dev/mmcblk1p1 at /media/qwerty/3639-3761: Command-line `mount -t "exfat" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=999,gid=999,iocharset=utf8,namecase=0,errors=remount-ro,umask=0077" "/dev/mmcblk1p1" "/media/qwerty/3639-3761"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: unknown filesystem type 'exfat' [17:34] and that's what happens when you click on it or that's what shows up in dmesg? [17:35] i put thaat command you gave me into terminal [17:35] then, i clicked to open the sdcard [17:35] the error message popped up again and i was able to copy and paste it here [17:35] could you put /var/log/dmesg into a pastebin? [17:36] the var/log/dmesg doesn't open anything for me .... [17:37] not var but /var [17:37] you certainly have one [17:37] tail -f /var/log/dmesg is what i entered in terminal [17:38] try opening it with the file manager [17:38] then copy and put it in a pastebin [17:38] k [17:38] pastebin? [17:38] anyways are you sure this is exFAT? cuz that's NOT FAT16 [17:38] !pastebin [17:38] For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. [17:39] if it is exFAT, you can try installing the exfat-fuse and exfat-utils packages and that should resolve the problem [17:39] the microsd is fat32 [17:40] the fact that it's complaining about exfat is kind of telling though [17:41] The specified directory '/var/log/dmesg' is not valid [17:41] well here's where i start wondering what lxle is doing different [17:43] lubuntu inherits use of dmesg from ubuntu which inherits it from debian e.g. https://wiki.debian.org/dmesg [17:43] if lxle doesn't have it, that's weird [17:43] but again, this is why we don't support lxle [17:44] i see this mount -t in the error message .. is the command to open microsd set for exfat when i need it to be fat32 ? [17:45] i'm guessing it's exfat [17:45] (the microsd opens in win10 & mint 18 [17:45] add those exfat packages and try again [17:48] how to install those ? (not coming up in search in synaptic package mgr [17:51] they are most certainly there http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=exfat [17:51] ? sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils [17:51] that would work [17:51] but synaptic and apt pull from the same places [17:55] http://paste.ubuntu.com/24269126/ [17:56] what version are you on? [17:57] maybe it would be easier for me to help you if you were on lubuntu [17:58] latest ...... but am on livecd (to make sure everything works before install [17:58] Guest64371, can you run sudo apt update [17:58] that might solve it [17:58] latest as in beta 2 of zesty? [17:58] latest long term release [17:58] latest as in the daily build of zesty? [17:58] ok, so you're on xenial [17:58] and what architecture? [17:58] trying sudo apt update [18:01] i'm trying to find wisest linux os to use this lenovo n22 winbook sync folders to desktop via syncthing and work well with opera vpn primarily [18:02] sudo apt update done but microsd still wont mount [18:03] update then install [18:04] lenovo 80S60001US [18:04] install what ? [18:04] the exfat packages [18:04] tx [18:05] YES! [18:06] it worked. thanks : ) [18:06] that would have been easier if you weer on lubuntu [18:06] *hint* *hint* [18:06] what would i understand the problem to have been based on these results? [18:07] : ) [18:07] you had an exFAT filesystem, not FAT32 as you guessed [18:07] exFAT is a proprietary Microsoft format and is not in the default repos because of that [18:07] so you needed to install additional packages to support that [18:08] when i ran into this problem when on lubuntu and was researching wisest way to proceed , lxle became an option to try [18:08] why is that the wisest? [18:09] should i be formatting microsd's to use in linux as primary hard drive for storage as fat32 or.. ? [18:10] not all computers can boot off sd cards [18:10] ... since this lenovo only has 32gb hd, i'll be using the 64gb sd as storage space to use syncthing to sync files to pc [18:10] i'm not going to boot off sd, just use it as storage space to sync to pc [18:11] aww ok [18:11] why not use the cloud? [18:11] i mean sheesh you could make one on your local network with owncloud [18:11] ... don't remember why lxle seemed like potentially wise way to go. [18:11] because they make it sound like it's so much better? [18:12] (their support's certainly not) [18:13] with owncloud, you could even sync up to your mobile device https://owncloud.org/install/#install-clients [18:13] i needed to upgrade the way we organize our data and syncthing emerged as the way to go as it's keeping proprietary documents in my network [18:13] ..not in dropbox or on someone else's server [18:14] owncloud/netcloud is your OWN cloud [18:15] not someone else's server [18:15] is owncloud opensource and works across android, linux & windows? [18:20] yup, looks like it is [18:25] hmmm nextcloud .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Byw55vgAe-M [18:32] thanks again. i appreciate your help . bye
