KiickiWhat is the difference between installing Ubuntu 14.04 and updating everything and installing 14.04.5 and updating everything? Or actually any 14.04.x version and updating everything?14:07
hateballKiicki: time spent waiting14:10
KiickiDamn, wrong chat14:11
KiickiJust realized it14:11
KiickiI mean the difference must be more then that14:11
KiickiAs an example we know that the "fglrx" driver is supported in 14.04.x but if you clean install 14.04.5 and update everything, you can't apply the "fgrlx" driver. it's there for sure but you can't apply it. I know that there's no problem doing a clean install of 14.04.1 and applying it so there must be something different.14:15
hateballI guess .5 has newer HWE, so a more recent kernel/mesa and that renders fglrx obsolete14:16

qswzhow do you guys do with volume Up/Down keys, not working for me?18:06
qswzit's Fn+up Fn+down actually for m18:06
wxlwhich version you on qswz ?18:07
qswz16.1018:07
qswzlatest18:07
wxli doubt anything's different but lemme boot up my vm18:07
qswzfreshly installed nd happy with lubuntu, raw on my laptop in place of a hacked win1018:08
wxlwell it's based on the key name18:08
wxlXF86AudioRaiseVolume18:08
qswzyea I saw that18:08
wxlso it depends on your keyboard set up really18:09
qswzwill test by doing like they say here http://www.webupd8.org/2016/07/how-to-create-and-edit-keyboard.html18:09
wxlyou can run `xev`18:09
wxlthat will tell you what those keys output18:09
wxlif it's a different key you can change it18:09
wxli'm not sure that's particularly useful but :)18:09
qswzok, thanks18:09
wxlyour link, i mean18:10
qswzhmm I prefer to not install a keylistener :(18:10
wxlxev is already installed18:10
qswzok18:10
wxlit doesn't record anything18:10
qswzI meant, my link suggest obkey18:10
wxlmaybe18:10
wxlstill won't necessarily tell you what that key is18:11
qswzKeyRelease event, serial 48, synthetic NO, window 0x1e00001,     root 0xdd, subw 0x0, time 45074175, (45,113), root:(46,139),     state 0x10, keycode 123 (keysym 0x1008ff13, XF86AudioRaiseVolume), same_screen YES,18:11
wxlright so that should do it18:11
qswzXF86AudioRaiseVolume, so that works well18:11
wxlyou could run the command it's supposedly using and make sure that works18:11
qswzok18:11
qswzamixer -q sset Master 3%+ unmute18:12
qswzamixer: Unable to find simple control 'Master',018:13
wxlah ha18:13
qswzhehe18:13
qswznice, thanks, will search that18:13
wxlyou should be able to look in alsamixer and see that they call it18:13
wxlthere's also ummm18:13
wxlaplay -l?18:13
wxlno that's not it18:13
qswzhttp://vpaste.net/AQ2Xs18:14
wxlamixer!18:14
wxljust run it with no other thingies. the "Master" should be at the top18:14
wxloh no not HDA Intel18:14
wxli hear all sorts of problems with this. i have a machine laying around that i need to find the time to test it out on18:15
wxlbut amixer should give you details on what the name is18:15
qswz sset sID P      set contents for one mixer simple control18:15
wxlhopefully it's just that easy :)18:15
qswzamixer -D pulse sset Master 3%+  //works18:18
wxlthere we go18:19
wxlso just change the config and you should be good18:19
qswzthanks man18:19
wxlnp18:19
wxlmake sure to change Mute too18:19
qswzyea, thanks, efficient debugging!18:20
wxli have my days :)18:20
KiickiWeird question here but would Lubuntu have the same preinstalled Kernels like Ubuntu has considering the versions?19:28
KiickiUbuntu 14.04.0 (v3.13)19:28
KiickiUbuntu 14.04.1 (v3.13)19:28
KiickiUbuntu 14.04.2 (v3.16)19:28
KiickiUbuntu 14.04.3 (v3.19)19:28
KiickiUbuntu 14.04.4 (v4.2)19:28
KiickiUbuntu 14.04.5 (v4.4)19:28
geniiThey all have the same base, including the kernels19:29
Kiickigenii Nice, thank you. I kinda need to be picky with the Kernels considering my setup and I want to try different flavors to see what works the best for me19:33
wxlthere are options to install different kernels regardless of which version your on19:33
KiickiSo Lubuntu and Ubuntu share the exact same Kernels with the same versions right?19:33
wxlby default, yes19:33
KiickiSo Lubuntu 14.04.3 for example has the exact same Kernel as Ubuntu 14.04.3 by default?19:34
KiickiJust so I'm sure we are on the same page19:34
wxlyep19:34
KiickiThank you. I assume the same with xubuntu too.19:34
Kiickiyeah, why would it be different19:35
wxlall ubuntu flavors ARE ubuntu19:36
wxlno flavor has their own PPA of base utilities19:36
wxleverything (including ubuntu desktop and server) is built on top of ubuntu-core19:36
wxler19:37
wxlubuntu-base?19:37
geniiI think ubuntu-minimal19:38
wxlthank you19:38
wxlsheesh19:38
* genii slides wxl a fresh coffee19:39
