ouroumovnicklas_, 1704 is still a way off being released00:02
ouroumovnicklas_, you should ask this on the forums00:02
Menzadornicklas_: The answer will be YES, when it's available for release officially in late April.00:03
MenzadorAll Ubuntu !flavours use the same upgrade path from either one interim release to the next, or from adjacent LTS versions (e.g., 12.04 to 14.04, 14.04 to 16.04)00:04
Menzador!upgrade00:04
ubottuFor upgrading, see the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes - see also http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/upgrade00:04
nicklas_cool00:08
nicklas_and about the reposes? any idea?00:08
MenzadorWhat about the repos?00:11
nicklas_also if youve added your own reposes, will they stay or get removed?00:14
nicklas_if they stay, will they change to new release automatically?00:14
nicklas_or do you need to change release?00:14
nicklas_if they dont stay, i want to copy the apt folder before upgrading00:14
MenzadorOh, PPAs? PPAs will stay, but will be disabled on upgrade. If you need those PPAs back, once the install is complete and you reboot, you simply uncomment whatever line starts with 'deb ...' in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/$PPA_NAME.list00:17
Menzador(of course, said PPAs are disabled because there's usually no package for the new distribution release in them)00:17
nicklas_how do you mean? dont i just change release codename?00:18
Menzadornicklas_: Changing the release code name? What do you mean by that?00:18
nicklas_like this release is yakkety right?00:19
nicklas_i change from yakkety to the 17.04 codename00:19
Menzadornicklas_: You don't have to do that manually, that will be taken care of during the release upgrade itself.00:19
nicklas_cool. even on the ppa:s that has been manually added?00:20
nicklas_i have used linux for long now00:20
nicklas_and ubuntu many times00:21
nicklas_but ive never upgraded, so no idea how it works00:21
Menzadornicklas_: Yes, but like I said, (1) the PPAs will be disabled on the upgrade, and (2) if they didn't previously contain "yakkety" in their name, they may need to be manually updated.00:21
nicklas_thats one of the main reasons ive been on rolling dists mostly, the annoyance of needing ppas00:21
MenzadorWhich reminds me, I have code to push myself00:21
nicklas_ive been using sabayon, arch, gentoo, manjaro00:22
nicklas_but the rolling dists have problems with steam00:22
nicklas_so switched back to ubuntu, to avoid those problems00:22
Menzadornicklas_: *I* could've helped with that. I suppose you got libGL errors?00:23
nicklas_there has been issues many times with manjaro (arch based) with steam, so finally got fed up with it00:25
nicklas_so dont even know why it wouldnt start the last time00:26
nicklas_fixed it many times, didnt wanna fix it again00:26
nicklas_so i switched to the dist that they develop steam for mainly00:26
dmiller309Manjaro has 2 options when running Steam: with the native libs and with the bundled libs.01:08
dmiller309For me, it didn't run with the native libs, but it did run with the bundled libs.01:08

imamateHi all, first time using irc!04:09
imamateI'm interesting in helping out with testing Ubuntu-Mate 17.04 for Raspberry Pi.  Anybody know where to get a download?04:12
nomicimamate https://ubuntu-mate.org/raspberry-pi/04:43
nomichttps://ubuntu-mate.org/download/04:43
nomic Ubuntu MATE 17.04 Beta 204:44
nomichttps://ubuntu-mate.org/raspberry-pi/04:44
imamateI'm not seeing it at https://ubuntu-mate.org/raspberry-pi/ or https://ubuntu-mate.org/download/   The first link only has 16.04.2 and the second link has 17.04, but only in i386 or amd64. I'd like 17.04 armhf in an xz image.05:44
imamateGoing to sleep now, but will leave my IRC open and check back in the morning.  Anyone that could direct me to a build would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.05:46

DaishunHello. Can anyone help me fix my waste basket. I opened caja as root from the terminal and tried to delete a file. It didn't go to the wastebasket but is now gone anyway. The problem is that I can no longer send anything to the waste basket but only delete directly. I tried purging caja and using nemo instead but the result is the same.12:32
swrightDaishun: can you check in preferences of caja under the behavior tab and see if the option at the bottom is selected to "include a delete command that bypasses the trash"  Not sure if the same preferences exits in nemo or not.12:49

mate|88264hello, i changed the /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/60-lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf file and restart, but then i'm stuck at the booting screen, no more login... what can i do?20:20
Akulipress ctrl+alt+f1 and log in there, does that work?20:20
mate|88264added greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter autologin-user=srackham20:21
mate|88264trying20:21
mate|88264no, no response... anyway to boot into emergency mode and let me del that line...20:22
Akulino response?20:22
mate|88264only flashing dot...20:22
Akulithat should work basically always in terms of lightdm issues20:23
Akulitry ctrl+alt+f220:23
Akulino need to reboot20:23
Akulisometimes ubuntu seems to require going back and forth a bit for some reason20:23
mate|88264f2 makes the screen black out, still flashing dots20:23
Akulitry f1 now :D20:23
Akuliif you're not getting anywhere there are many ways to boot without lightdm stuff20:24
mate|88264:( no luck20:24
Akuliok20:24
mate|88264i tried f1, f2, f3 :o20:24
Akuliok20:24
Akuliin the past i have told grub to use bash as init, and it actually works pretty well for these things20:24
Akulithere's probably a better way to boot without lightdm though20:25
mate|88264yeah, i want to set it up without cable, but i figured it needed login first, so, finding way to by pass the login, but then now, stucked.20:26
Akuliset it up without cable? is this a server?20:27
mate|88264i repower the machine, try ctrl alt f1, f2 again, but still no luck20:27
Akuliok20:27
Akulido you get a menu that lets you choose an operating system when you start it?20:28
mate|88264no, it's on raspberry pi 3b20:28
mate|88264the left shift doesnt work20:28
Akulihmm :(20:28
mate|88264maybe i can mount the sdcard in windows?20:29
Akulijust plug the sd card in a computer and edit the lightdm config with that?20:29
Akulido you have an ubuntu usb stick for a pc?20:29
Akulireally handy to keep around20:29
mate|88264windows can see the filesystem?20:29
Akulii guess no, but you can try20:29
Akuliactually i'm pretty sure it doesn't20:29
mate|88264trying20:30
mate|88264nope20:30
Akulii would just create a ubuntu mate usb stick20:31
Akuliyou'll find it handy in many other cases too :)20:31
mate|88264u mean, by using another UM system on a usb stick to read the sdcard filesystem?20:39
mate|88264yup, using another sdcard to read the USB is the ideal solution. thanks!21:31
duanewHi there, how do I change the computer name without re-installing the system?22:04
duanewpreferably without restarting as well.22:04
ouroumovWithout restarting is not possible I think22:05
duanewon standard ubuntu it is...but the terminal command to open the files necessary I can't get to work on MATE\22:05
duanew*ignore the \22:06
ouroumovHm yeah I was wrong apparently22:06
ouroumovhttps://askubuntu.com/questions/87665/how-do-i-change-the-hostname-without-a-restart22:06
ouroumovand duanew, it's the same procedure as for standard ubuntu, whatever that is22:06
ouroumovexcept yeah, s/gedit/pluma22:07
ouroumovI'd also recommend using gksudo pluma instead of sudo -H22:07
olalondedoes ubuntu mate have a software center?22:09
duanewyes22:09
duanewI've got nano open now22:09
olalondehow do I install it?22:09
ouroumovolalonde, not as such, but you can install one from the boutique22:09
ouroumovsecond icon on the right, I believe22:10
olalondeouroumov: boutique? I actually installed mate on top of ubuntu server so I think I'm missing a few things22:10
ouroumovoh22:10
ouroumovolalonde, install ubuntu-mate-welcome22:10
olalondeouroumov_: thanks22:17
olalondeno search interface :(22:23
olalondeAlso, in themes I'm getting "this does not look as intended.... ambiant-MATE is not installed"22:23
olalondeapt install ubuntu-mate-themes fixed it22:26
mate|88264i got the error fixed, but now, how can I disable to login screen? I disable it in control center > users and groups but i still see the greeting screen on boot and I need one more click to login. can I disable the greeting window?23:10
mate|88264I've made it work by adding autologin-user in /etc/lightdm rather than /usr/share/23:32
mate|88264thx, have a good day23:32
