soupnanodesukarpassing iommu=soft on the kernel commandline solves the lockup problem, but that will prevent me from passing through my second video card to windows04:24
soupnanodesukarso i think i'll have to rma the video card or something04:24
soupnanodesukarbecause it seems like a hw fault04:25
soupnanodesukarsure, if i didn't have to run a vm for work, that'd be fine. who needs more than one video card on a daily basis?04:26

vincenzomlHello, I was just redirected to here; what is the preferred way to run some shell commands at boot in ubuntu 17.04?07:34
ducassei gave you a trigger right after the first one :) see this:07:36
ducasse!systemd07:36
ubottusystemd is the default init system for Ubuntu 15.04 onwards. For information on transitioning from upstart to systemd, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemdForUpstartUsers For a guide to basic service management with systemd, see https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-systemctl-to-manage-systemd-services-and-units07:36
vincenzomlyes so my problem was that I had no /etc/init.d/rc.local so I thought there is no rc.local anymore07:46
vincenzomlNow by dpkg -l systemd I see I just need to create /etc/rc.local and make it executable, and the magic should happen :)07:46
ducasserc.local was removed in 16.1007:48
vincenzomlbut is there a new preferred way to do that, or one is supposed to create a proper systemd script in /etc/init.d?07:50
vincenzomland does it still work if I create it?07:50
ducasseyou are supposed to create a systemd service unit in /etc/systemd/system07:50
vincenzomlthanks07:51
ducassei don't know if it still works. i would think so, but this is an approach you should move away from.07:51
ikoniaducasse: I think it's actually been removed07:51
ikoniathe script that looped through it, is gone07:52
ikoniaor was in the earlier 17.04 pre-releases07:52
ducasseok, thanks for the info :)07:55
RyanOrzAnybody knows why Ubuntu 17.04 doesn't have package "xserver-xorg-video-mga"?07:59
RyanOrzMy VGA Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd. G200eR2 using desktop is really a nightmare.08:01
vincenzomlhello again; I have two annoying issues on my fresh 17.04 install. One is that bluetooth sometimes does not get activated on boot. Almost always it does. But when it doesn't I can only hard reset as my keyboard and mouse are bluetooth. The other issue is that I set cpu governor in /etc/rc.local (which anyway works) but something else resets it to p08:04
vincenzomlowersave. I already checked and I don't have cpufrequtils installed. What can it be?08:04
* p_h is away, 10 minute autoaway (l!on) : os/bx08:11
k1l_!away | p_h08:11
ubottup_h: Please do not use noisy away messages and nicks in Ubuntu channels. It is annoying and unnecessary. Use the command "/away <reason>" to set your client away silently. See also «/msg ubottu Guidelines»08:11
p_hvery sorry about the auto away08:19
k1l_please turn it off08:20
p_hit should have been off, that's what's frustrating. won't rejoin until it's solved08:21
brunch875oh? My client marks me as away automatically... is that a bad thing?08:56
k1l_no, but some clients are set to announce that every time in the channels08:56
brunch875As in the client speaking out "I am away"?08:57
k1l_yes08:57
k1l_* p_h is away, 10 minute autoaway (l!on) : os/bx08:57
brunch875interesting...08:57

jonasrogertHi, i'm using ubuntu 17.04 on a dell xps dev 9360, I have a problem with lshw freezes the computer completly it stops on network (virtualbox also freezes the computer). Could anyone give me any pointers on what to try?14:06
tgm4883!ubuntu+1 | jonasrogert try this14:14
ubottujonasrogert try this: Zesty Zapus is the codename for Ubuntu 17.04 - Support only in #ubuntu+114:14
tgm4883oh geez14:14
* tgm4883 runs away embarrassed as he realizes he's in Ubuntu+114:14
* k1l wakes tgm4883 up :)14:14
tgm4883I knew I should have had some coffee this morning before IRC14:15
tgm4883jonasrogert: Does it freeze if you do "lshw -class network"? Just wondering if it's freezing on network, or on whatever it's trying to do after network14:16
jonasrogerthehe14:16
jonasrogerttgm4883: yes14:16
jonasrogerttgm4883: it doesn't if i disable network14:16
tgm4883jonasrogert: how are you disabling network?14:17
jonasrogert-disable network14:17
tgm4883ah ok14:17
jonasrogertIt also freezes when i try to use virtualbox14:17
tgm4883jonasrogert: does it freeze on network if you uninstall virtualbox?14:17
tgm4883or rather, IIRC there's a virtualbox driver for network, I wonder if you can just modprobe -r that and try14:18
jonasrogerthmm tgm4883 i haven't tried that! I will try.14:18
jonasrogertok14:18
jonasrogerti will try that first14:18
jonasrogerti will need to force restart if i do it butt i'll be back14:19
tgm4883jonasrogert: it sounds to me like some kernel panic when it's doing network stuff. Since virtualbox does it too, it might be when the virtualbox networking is being used14:19
tgm4883so I'd try removing that first and reproducing it14:19
tgm4883jonasrogert: also, the in repos virtualbox or virtualbox from oracle?14:19
jonasrogerttgm4883: in the ubuntu repos14:20
tgm4883ok14:20
jonasrogerttgm4883: could the driver be called virt_dma for virtualbox14:20
tgm4883jonasrogert: IDK, is there a virtio driver?14:21
jonasrogerti see it now vbox*14:21
jonasrogertprobably it :)14:21
jonasrogerttgm4883: so that didn't work :)14:25
jonasrogerti will try removing it completly14:25

danliiHow can I disable dns masquerading altogether in Ubuntu 17.04? It's not as easy with systemd-resolved as it was with dnsmasq.19:26
ikoniait's not that simple as it's quite intergrated20:13
ikoniayou'll need to set network manager to not use dnsmasq within the config for network manager20:13
moodyHello... I have a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter that worked fine out-of-the-box on my Ubuntu 16.04 install. I just did a clean install of 17.04, and now it won't work right. When I plug it in, I see the wireless icon in the taskbar, and I can click to connect to my router, but it doesn't connect... it spins for a minute or so,then fails to connect. The adapter is a Belkin F5D7050. Any ideas?21:51
