IrcsomeBot<icibon> Sorry to ask: does anyone knows how to resize default panel ? Thank you06:50
lordievaderGood morning06:52
LRBI have a strange problem I'm not sure how to start troubleshooting. Whenever I choose "Take a New Screenshot" in spectacle, all of my window decorations disappear.07:12
LRBSpectacle is version 16.12.307:12
LRBI'm running Ubuntu 17.04 and everything is up-to-date07:13
LRBKubuntu*07:13
LRBIt's basically a new installation. I've got the breeze-dark theme going but that's about the only modification I've made to the WM. I modified the scaling too, but I don't think that would have any affect07:14
LRBSomething to note is that after the decorations disappear I'm unable to change focus of my applications.07:15
hateballLRB: hmmm, weird07:23
hateballwonder if I have a machine to reproduce on (running 16.04 on this one)07:24
LRBI found out it has specifically to do with the active window screenshot07:24
hateballPretty sure I was taking a screenshot when I played a game this weekend tho... on 17.0407:24
LRBFullscreen screenshots work just fine. I guess it's only the active window ones. For example, if I press meta+printscreen, it happens. If I press shift+printscreen, I get the screenshot notification as expected07:25
=== schwann is now known as gusch5
hateballLRB: ah07:36
hateballI only press printscreen and took a fullscreen pic07:36
hateballcan test when I get home in... 9 hours :p07:36
LRBAlright lol. It's not an enormous problem for me, but it's still a pretty weird bug.07:40

oberthello, how to upgrade from 16.04 to 17?09:05
obertit is not apt-get upgrade, isn't it?09:05
lordievaderYou can't in one go... 17.04 ain't a LTS.09:06
obertno?09:07
lordievaderHowever, you can do 'do-release-upgrade' twice.09:07
lordievaderNope09:07
lordievaderOnly even numbered .04's are LTSes.09:07
obertis it recommend to upgrade?09:07
lordievaderHonestly, don't know. I'm kind of out of the loop.09:08
lordievaderI'm sure others are better able to tell you, if you stick around.09:08
hateballobert: I've had no issues, fwiw09:08
hateballgoing from... cant remember my base install at home, possibly 14.0409:08
hateballand then upgrading every 6 months09:08
obertmmm09:08
obertI am not an advanced user09:09
obertmaybe LTS is enough for me09:09
hateballanyhow, 16.04-16.10-17.04 was completely painless iirc09:09
hateballmore of a pain dealing with 16.04 + PPA to keep Plasma somewhat stable :p09:10
obertalso do you know if there are issues with kubuntu and vmware workstation 12?09:11
hateballas in... running Kubuntu as host or guest?09:12
obertguest09:12
obertbut mouse clicking doesn't works in my vm09:12
obertso I had to install ubuntu09:12
hateballobert: did you install open-vm-tools in the guest?09:13
oberthehe yes09:13
hateballpossibly related to wanting/needing compositing, but I dunno09:13
hateballI only run Kubuntu on bare metal :p09:13
hateballand headless linux on esxi09:13
obertI dunno, I only know that ubuntu works and kubuntu no09:13
obertit could be about vmware or gfx card09:14
mparilloobert: open-vm-tools-desktop?09:15
obertmparillo: as far as I know it's 'vmmare tools'09:16
obertvmware tools09:16
hateballyes for a GUI machine you'll want open-vm-tools-desktop09:18
hateballobert: the old vmware tools are deprecated, use the distro provided ones09:19
zamazan4ikhello. Do you know problem with ctrl+shift+smth hotkeys on non-US languages?09:19
zamazan4iki had this problem with kubuntu 17.0409:20
zamazan4ikhow can i fix it?09:20
hateballzamazan4ik: What would be the problem?09:21
hateballAs I am using hotkeys just fine on sv_SE locale09:21
mparilloobert: I used to use https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/zesty/amd64/open-vm-tools-desktop09:21
mparillofor running Kubuntu as a guest in VMware09:22
zamazan4ikhateball: when i use e.g. ctrl+shift+T (for konsole) i get language switching (ctrl+shift) instead of konsole(ctrl+shift+T)09:22
mparillologin to you guest, and sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y open-vm-tools-desktop09:22
mparilloAnd re-boot your guest.09:22
hateballzamazan4ik: hmmm oh, I dont use language switching.. but shouldnt that be ctrl+alt+shift? otherwise ctrl+shift will obviously happen before ctrl+shift+something09:23
obertmparillo: I will try to install them09:23
zamazan4ikhateball: on previous versions all worked fine09:23
obertbut I don't know how to do it I think09:23
hateballobert: alt+space should open krunner, launch konsole from there, and then run what mparillo said09:25
oberthateball: mouse clicking doesn't works in the vm so I cannot do alt+space09:27
hateballobert: by default if the VM window has focus you should be "on the desktop" so just pressing any key should bring up krunner09:28
oberthateball: tried many times:  no luck09:29
hateballobert: does keyboard input work in the grub menu? like can you hold shift when the VM boots?09:29
hateballthen you could perhaps enter singleusermode and pull in the open-vm-tools-desktop09:30
oberthateball: I have to try, busy a while09:33
oberthateball: holding shift does not doing anything09:39
hateballobert: weird. but I have no experience with vmware workstation so I dunno what else could be checked10:14
obertthank you hateball10:14
hateballobert: you may have some luck asking in #vmware, but if regular ubuntu works... then that is weird. it is same kernel/grub10:17
obertyeah infact I asked here if there are issues with vmware and kubuntu itself10:18
obertlunch, later and thanks again10:19

K-ubuntuerHi11:53
K-ubuntuerAnyone here?11:53
K-ubuntuerHello?11:59

K-ubuntuerOh12:00
K-ubuntuerThen what's the differences are there between kde and unity?12:01
K-ubuntuer:/ I just asked a question12:06
KurousagiMK2unity dead... Canonical buried him. there is nothing to compare.12:06
BluesKajHi folks12:08
K-ubuntuerHi :)12:10
K-ubuntuerYes, unity is already dead :( though gnome is going to replace it12:10
majoranaHi! Yesterday the KDE team accounced Plasma 5.9.5; How long does it (usually) take until the updates find their way to the repo? When can I expect them to install?12:39
K-ubuntuerI'm not sure12:45
=== d is now known as Guest28324
hateballmajorana: you may have more luck asking in #kubuntu-devel12:48
hateball"not long"12:48
K-ubuntuerYep I know right12:49
acheronUKmajorana: will hopefully be uploading to Artful later or tomorrow, then if ok, to zesty soon. but with zesty as a stable release update (SRU) it will have to sepnd a week or so at least in 'proposed' for testing before it will be allowed into updates officially12:50
majorana@archeronUK Thanks! So the usual delay is about a week plus/minus a few days12:54
acheronUKhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates12:54
acheronUKthe procedure we have to follow ^^^12:54
acheronUKfor the main archive12:54
majoranaAlright, I will check it out!12:55
acheronUKwe wanted to try to get 5.9.5 in the main archive for this update, so everyone can benefit, rather than just put it in a ppa that only a fraction of people might think to enable12:58
majoranaI think that's a good idea :-)13:08
majoranaIs the Kubuntu installer part of the KDE project or part of Kubuntu? I would like to make a proposal.13:12
acheronUKthe installer is ubiquity which is a ubuntu thing. we just use a KDE/Qt front end to it13:18
majoranaThanks. I just found, that my idea already was proposed six years ago and nothing happend since then: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/871752 :-(13:22
ubottuLaunchpad bug 871752 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "wrong keyboard layout to enter wifi credential on a non-us keyboard" [High,Triaged]13:22
K-ubuntuerThe kubuntu installer doesn't use ubiquity13:23
majoranaWhich one does it use instead? It really looks like ubiquity13:27
K-ubuntuerWait I'll find out13:27
majoranaMerci!13:27
K-ubuntuerIt's an installer called Calamares.13:30
acheronUKK-ubuntuer: we do use ubiquity13:31
majoranaOkay, that's the one Manjaro also uses (besides other distros https://calamares.io/about/)13:31
K-ubuntuerThat's for ubuntu and ubuntu GNOME13:31
K-ubuntuerUbiquity13:31
majoranaI think acheronUK is right, only KDE Neon is listed on the calamares website13:32
acheronUKmajorana: I KNOW I am right. I'm a kubuntu developer. I know precisely what we use13:32
majorana:-D I better hope so!13:33
K-ubuntuerYep kubuntu is listed on calamares website: Calamares is maintained by the Calamares team. Most of us are also KDE developers, and we have received contributions from BBQLinux, Fedora, KaOS, Kubuntu, Manjaro, Maui, Netrunner and OpenMandriva developers as well.13:33
acheronUKmajorana: Another kubuntu developer 'contributes' to Calameres, but we (kubuntu) use Ubiquity13:35
K-ubuntuerOh I get it now13:35
acheronUKmajorana: this is our front end: http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/ubiquity-frontend-kde13:36
majoranaAlso Calamares already makes the thing right I am complaining about: The keyboard layout comes right after the language: http://i.imgur.com/eZLqXun.png13:37
acheronUKand our slideshow http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/ubiquity-slideshow-kubuntu13:37
acheronUKmajorana: AFAIR, ordering like that is the base ubiquity, not our look and feel front end13:39
* acheronUK would quite like to use Calamares13:40
majoranaThought so. Are there any reasons why the Kubuntu would not move to Calamares?13:40
acheronUKnot something I've personally looked into the practicalities of. However, it's not even in debian/ubuntu yet, would have to wait for it to come in or try to get it in13:44
acheronUKat least with ubiquity we have full support from ubuntu.13:45
majorana@archeronUK: The patches to change the order should be minimal; Could I as a user contribute a code patch?13:55
dpohlmanTrying to use IM and adding "Google" and crash every time, any ideas14:00
dpohlman"Unable to Finish" There was an error while trying to process the request"14:01
dpohlmanIf I initate any of the other add clients they seem to work ok.14:01
acheronUKmajorana: anyone can, but as it's canonical's thing you might need to agree to https://www.ubuntu.com/legal/contributors14:01
acheronUKthough minor obvious changes might be ok without14:01
acheronUKmajorana: #ubuntu-installer may be the place to ask14:02
majorana@ archonUK: Alright, I gonna ask there.14:06
majoranaAbout Calamares and Debian, I just asked and got the following answer14:07
majorana"[15:55] <highvoltage> majorana: yep, I'm working on it, close to having it ready [15:56] <highvoltage> majorana: debian is in freeze at the moment for the stretch release, but I'm aiming for an upload to experimental next week"14:07

user|44455Hi,20:33
user|44455I've some problems to launch an app like Anarok or Discover on Ubuntu20:33
user|44455Are anyone have same problem ?20:34
Dragnslcruser|44455- you should describe exactly what problem you're having20:38
user|44455Since i've install Kubuntu 16.04.2 LTS on my lenovo laptop on EFI. Some apps are installed but don't lauch20:40
user|44455The app start but after few seconds, the app disappear20:41
user|44455like on Anarok, Dragon,...20:41
user|44455but other apps like Gimp, Firefox work good20:42
user|44455Do you know if this is a general bug or not ?20:43
viewer|93820I was interested in learning more about Kubuntu and wanted to give it a try to I installed it on a virtual machine using VirtualBox on a Mac. After initial install, I ran updates and rebooted. After successfully rebooting the OS I shutdown and made some modifications to my Virtualbox settings - I enabled 3D acceleration. With this setting I am able20:51
viewer|93820 to boot the OS but the kubuntu menu bar disappears after launch. I am able to interact with it though it is invisible. When I try launching applications the windows never appear. I tried disabling 3D acceleration but now Kubuntu does not boot properly - it never reaches the login screen. Any help would be appreciated, I am new to VMs and Linux.20:51
ahoneybunvalorie: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/67qels/kubuntu_1704_proper_way_to_handle_hidpi/20:52
viewer|93820Should I be posting this question elsewhere? I'm having a difficult time finding support for my issue online and I do not believe the link you posted is relevant to my inquiry20:54
Dragnslcruser|44455- if the program crashed, usually you'll get a notification in the system tray20:57
Dragnslcruser|44455- it's probably worth trying to start the program from a terminal window, that way you should see any error messages20:57
viewer|93820The main issue is that no windows are displaying. I tried opening terminal but the window never showed. The only thing I am able to interact with is the desktop helper in the top right and I can hover over where the menu bar should be and interact with it as context boxes pop up20:58
user|44455the only problem same with terminal, no info are registered20:59
viewer|93820Is anyone able to help me?21:06
valorieahoneybun: the only difficulty I have is the file save menu in FF21:09
valoriealthough tabs in both ff and chrome seem huge, I'm getting used to 'em21:09
valorieuser|44455: how did you start it in the konsole?21:10
user|44455yes and he says this is impossible because he doesn't find directory21:11
user|44455for anarok and Dragon, it's ok now but not for the latest program installed today21:13
user|44455my latest program was a file in .sh21:15
user|44455i delete this program to reinstall21:15
