IrcsomeBot<weltimeister> Hi all! Will Plasma on Kubuntu 16.04 backports still be updated? I am still on Plasma 5.8.5. … 5.8.6 was released over two month ago. … Will the backports receive updates for 5.8 in the future?11:32
IrcsomeBot<acheronuk> @weltimeister, 5.8.6 will be done soon. just been busy getting zesty ready for release11:48
IrcsomeBot<weltimeister> @acheronuk, Ah, I see. Thanka for your quick answer! So the plan is to do all the 5.8 future releases? 5.8.7, 5.8.8 and so on?11:50
IrcsomeBot<acheronuk> correct11:51
IrcsomeBot<acheronuk> Xenial is an LTS, and so is 5.8.x Plasma. so having all the 5.8 updates and fixes seems important11:52
IrcsomeBot<weltimeister> @acheronuk, Great. Thank you!11:53
vojzzoAnyone here?12:09

IrcsomeBot<acheronuk> Hi. :)20:50
user|53823hi, which is the development version of kubuntu?22:19
user|53823(please) .. is it 17.04?22:19
acheronukuser|53823: 17.10 now22:22
user|53823i icannot upgrade from 16.04 to 17.04.... this should be from oldstable (LTS) to stable?22:26
user|53823do_release_upgrade doesnt work no more (had 15.04 before)...22:26
user|53823can someone give me a hint? (how to upgrade from 16.04 LTS to 17.04 stable?)22:30
dax!upgradeofflts22:30
ubottuTo upgrade from an LTS release of Ubuntu to the next (non-LTS) release, run sudoedit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades and change the prompt= line to "prompt=normal". Then, do sudo do-release-upgrade to begin the upgrade.22:30
daxI note that 17.04 is not LTS, so you'll need to go 16.04 -> 16.10 -> 17.0422:30
daxor maybe not, i forget how they handle non-LTS updates these days. but either way you're now on the every-six-months track, not the every-two-years one22:31
user|53823the reason was... i wanted to get the stable thunderbird release to install the stable lightning (calendar) addon.22:32
user|53823I dont really care a lot about lts or non lts..non-lts would only be more dist-upgrade meaning to be connected to a fast wifi for all the update-packages? right?22:33
dax16.04 and 17.04 have the same version of thunderbird.22:34
user|53823grmpf...22:35
user|53823thank you a lot anyways.. so what is then the benefit of normal updates?22:35
daxMost software doesn't get new major versions through security updates. Thunderbird (mainly because of Firefox) is an exception.22:36
daxif memory serves they only update to ESR versions of Tb and Fx though, hence it being 45 and not 5222:37
user|53823thank you. I updated again now. will find out soon how I get along with this..22:39
user|53823but I'm pretty happy of your good support to me!22:39
