[21:10] I can´t connect to wifi in xubuntu [21:13] Luis, xubuntu version and wifi chipset? [21:16] Intel GM965 Express Chipset, Xubuntu 16.04.2 for 32 bits [21:17] the former is not a wifi chipset [21:19] sorry, i am a beginner, so I don´t know a lot [21:19] buildin wifi device or usb stick? [21:20] buildin [21:20] try terminal command lspci [21:21] And then? [21:22] have a look at the command's output [21:24] ok, done [21:27] you may at leat guess which of the listed devices in the output might be your wifi chip [21:32] Is it the host bridge? [21:33] Forgot it, it isn´t... [21:35] Ok, I think is this one: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [21:35] sounds goo [21:35] d [21:38] Luis, go to settings and restrcted drivers [21:38] ok [21:39] the dialog should show an entry 'Broadcom B43 wireless driver' === Majestic is now known as Other [21:42] It says they are not available drivers [21:44] strange [21:44] well, we can try doing this manually: [21:44] sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source broadcom-sta-common broadcom-sta-source [21:44] and when finished: [21:44] sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer [21:46] it says it can´t localize the packages [21:48] Luis, first or second command? [21:48] First and second :( [21:49] i guess, the multiverse repository is not activated then [21:52] Luis, settings → software & updates [21:53] But I had already activated it [21:53] and updated the package cache? [21:54] No, because i can´t connect to the internet [21:54] but now i realize i have to connect by ethernet [21:58] well, of course … any kind of internet connection might be helpful for installing packages =D [21:58] Luis, and check settings → restricted drivers first when connected [21:58] Ok, sorry for making losing your time, I had already solved it, thanks bro :) [21:59] you're welcome [22:09] Hey all. I have my monitor for my linux box about 7 feet away from me. I want to scale up the desktop so that the menus and icons are big. I don't know whether that's resolution (on a LCD) or a setting in Xfce. [22:11] Other, appearance settings i guess, increase font size [22:12] or use a custom dpi setting [22:15] Ok thanks font size and tweaking the panel size makes it much better
