newbhey i have kubuntu on my computer with a geforce gt 630 attached to a 40 inch tv.I have moderate keyboard and mouse lag. i tried googling but didnt find too much information, just people suggesting to mess with xset m, which i tried to no effect. anyone know anything about this?05:17
redphantom_actually i just saw an article about that this morning there are drivers you can update to if you are having stability issues05:34
redphantom_im also using kubuntu with a 780 ti but i am not having any lag05:34
redphantom_im on 17.0405:34
valorienewb: you might check in systemsettings if there are suggested drivers for you to install05:36
valorieeasiest way to do that is alt+space and type drivers05:37
valoriethat is krunner, endlessly useful05:37
newbvalorie: thank you. im using the nvidia-375 driver. it says recommended driver next to it. but also with nouveau i had worse mouse lag05:40
valoriesounds more like an I/O problem -- is your cable really long?05:41
valorieor old05:41
valoriecrappy or worn-out cabling causes so many problems we usually blame on software05:42
newbvalorie: i have a couple others, ill give them a shot. since you mention it, this one is unecessarily long, like 50 feet.05:42
valorieyowza05:43
valorieI was about to give up on one old laptop since the USB seemed to stop working05:44
valorieit was driving me nuts until someone mentioned that it might be the cable failing05:44
valorieduh05:44
valorieit was05:44
valorielol05:44
newbvalorie: much better, but still lags. I wouldnt be able to play a first person shooter but I can definitely use the computer more easily now. perhaps i should invest in a shorter new one.05:47
valorieprobably worth the small amount it will cost05:48
newbvalorie: I appreicate the help05:49
valoriewell, if the new cable helps, then I helped05:52
valorie:-)05:52
valorieso, fingers crossed!05:52
newbvalorie: definitely05:53

vincenzomlhttp://pasteboard.co/ZlQmQdYl.png10:16
vincenzomlThere should be tool icons where the tooltip is10:17
vincenzomlI tried changing the icon theme to oxygen via kcmconfig10:17
vincenzomland I also tried setting the theme to gtk via qtconfig-qt410:18
vincenzomlno luck with either10:18

vimesany one know of a way to re-assign the print screen key in kubuntu to do area screenshot and auto put it into the clipbord13:29
Dragnslcrvimes- looks like there are command line options to spectacle to do it13:41
vimesDragnslcr, yes, I've used the "help" command to list them. but none of them allow me to auto put it into clipboard13:45
vimesin gnome I just had to append a "-c" and it would copy it13:45
vimesI take like 50 screenshots a day (for work) so I need it to work13:46
Dragnslcrvimes- looks like you can use the xclip program to copy the output from spectacle to the clipboard13:55
=== jayhunold is now known as jhunold
vimesthanks Dragnslcr, I found it easier to not use spectacle at all. terminal command "import png:- | xclip -selection c -t image/png" works just fine, I just re-mapped it to the print screen key :)14:04
vimesit does not save my screenshots in a folder though, like gnome did. but meh14:05

vojzzoAnyone here?20:05
acheronukyes20:06
acheronuk!ask20:06
ubottuPlease don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) See also !patience20:06
vojzzoOh sorry20:10
vojzzoI wanted to try Kubuntu20:10
vojzzoShould I try the newest 17.04 version or the older one?20:11
BluesKajvojzzo, you can try the live media version to see if you like 17.04, tht's usually the best method20:12
acheronukvojzzo: are you happy to upgrade the OS again in 8 months time?20:12
BluesKajeither dvd or usb20:13
vojzzoI would like to set up the OS to my needs and not have to upgrade it and start over again20:14
acheronukBluesKaj: yes, depends what you mean by 'try'20:14
BluesKajruningn the live media to see if one likes the OS is "trying" it :-)20:16
acheronukwell, usually upgrading can be done without having to 'set things up' again, but upgrades always carry the risk depending on what you have customised and hardware that you might need a clean install20:16
acheronukso you trade off that risk against say have less new shiny stuff in the LTS release, but not upgrading for a bit except maybe some new stuff from backports20:17
vojzzoWhy would I need to upgrade it in 8 months?20:18
acheronuk17.04 has a 9 months support life. No security or other updates after that20:19
vojzzoAnd there's going to be a new version after that?20:19
genii...20:20
acheronukvojzzo: yes. 17.10 in October actually. 3 month overlap20:21
acheronuknormal releases = every 6 months, each supported for 9 months so they overlap20:22
pedahzurAny ETA for a xenial/16.04 dist of https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/backports-pim ?  Also, is kubuntu-ppa going to be brought up to date for xenial?  A little love for the current LTS would be nice. :)  Anything I can do to help?21:09
acheronukpedahzur: we are looking at updates now. were just too busy with getting 17.04 out the door the last month or 221:12
acheronuknow we can look at doing some updates, or at least staging them for testing to see how they go21:12
pedahzuracheronuk: Very cool. I don't have a lot of time to invest, but are there things I could do to help?21:15
acheronukwell, if/whe we have packages staged, they will need testers. before they go to regular backports ppas21:16
ahoneybunyepp21:19
pedahzuracheronuk: Is that https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/backports-landing ?21:26
pedahzurDo they also go in Backports Landing before going into Backports PIM?21:26
acheronukpedahzur: backports PIM was just for zesty. as we could not get PIM updated with that to the same version as the rest of the apps. but could post release in a ppa21:29
acheronukupdated apps for Xenial would go in normal backports-landing -> backports21:29
ahoneybunpedahzur: we also have staging ppas for apps, frameworks, and plasma but that is the very rough stuff21:31
ahoneybun-landing is for when they just need a few last tests.21:31
pedahzurahoneybun: Cool, thanks!21:36

pedahzurThanks!21:49

kubuntedis there a linux distro that works out of the box? I've been fedored already with a disfunctional distro now kubunted23:38
valorieI've never known a linux distro that could read Windows files in a Windows partition23:38
valorieafaik, the files have to be in some shared partition23:39
valorieever since I moved to linux, yonks ago23:40
valoriekubuntu works for me, really well23:40
kubuntedvalorie: the opposite here - all the distros up till this kubuntu read windows partition fine ( and write to it )23:45
valoriehmmm23:46
valorieI guess I've never tried, since I never use the windows23:46
valoriejust leave it because there's room, and I keep intending to use it to test KDE stuff in windows23:47
