kenvandine* I started working on dropping patches from packages that added dependencies for libunity, libsignon, libaccounts and libido.  The most significant change was the empathy package, I greatly simplified the packaging now that we no longer need to split out GOA and UOA backends.  Basically unwinding the work I did back before I left the desktop team.15:37
kenvandine* Spent a little time trying to figure out the lack of window border bug in gnome-shell with our theme, but didn't make any progress.15:37

Laneythat's weird15:55
kenvandineTrevinho, so you have a theory about the border bug?15:55
kenvandineor pointer?15:55
jbichaTrevinho: yes, that shows up for everyone :|15:55
Trevinhokenvandine: well we did some work to avoid that border to show up in unity, but that shouldn't affect the shell.. It's all about the theme window border property... I had something but I need to check it further15:56
TrevinhoI can do it tomorrow15:56
kenvandineTrevinho, cool, please do15:56
jbichaLaney: when's a good time to discuss updating gnome-terminal to 3.24?15:57
kenvandinei'll hold off messing with it until i hear from you15:57
Laneyjbicha: it's mainly the PCRE2 stuff, right?15:59
jbichaI think the easiest thing to do is to just revert the PCRE2 stuff for now like I proposed in LP: #166626416:00
ubot5`Launchpad bug 1666264 in vte2.91 (Ubuntu) "FFe: Update gnome-terminal to 3.24 and vte to 0.48" [Low,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/166626416:00
LaneyI remember16:00
jbichawe might be able to push PCRE2 in main off until after 18.04 LTS16:00
Laneyhow do we get out of that hole?16:00
Laneyor is it a hope that everyone else ports their stuff kind of thing?16:00
jbichaI talked to cypher_mox yesterday and he's not fully opposed to there being 2 PCREs in main, but he'd like to see a transition tracker, bugs filed, etc.16:02
Laneyalright, that seems tractable16:04
Laneyif that's enough to get it allowed in then I like that16:04
jbichaI think they want the Desktop Team to make a decision about how badly we need PCRE216:05
Laneyum16:11
Laneya bit?16:11
jbichahow opposed are you to me uploading 3.24 now with the pcre2 reverts?16:14
Laneyif in the future we get stuck because of it, then very16:15
Laneyif because of it nobody pushes the above tracker/bugs/... then a bit16:16
Laneyif it never requires any more work then also a bit16:16
jbichalol, lots of "a bit" answers here :)16:16
Laneywell yeah I don't think it's the end of the world :P16:17
jbichaok, so we're stuck on 3.20 now16:17
LaneyI mean if you want to do it then go ahead and do it16:17
LaneyI'll just be grumpy if we end up being stuck16:18
Laneybut it won't be like I'll be able to do anything about it :016:18
Laney:)*16:18
jbichawe're stuck now and eventually maintaining the revert patches will be too much so we'll be stuck again16:18
jbichahopefully, some other stuff will be able to use pcre2 then so it's more obvious that we should have pcre2 in main16:19
Laneythat's why I'm slightly worried that uploading means nobody pushes PCRE2 any more16:19
Laneybut it looks like the rest of the world isn't really moving over yet either16:19
jbichaI did see that glib still uses pcre3…16:20
Laneyyeh16:23
Laneythere's probably an argument that being stuck on 3.24 is no worse than being stuck on 3.20 btw16:26
jbichaok,I opened a glib bug upstream, I'll try to get it tracked on the Ubuntu transition tracker if I can figure out the ben syntax16:31
Laneyseen https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=755693 ?16:31
ubot5`Gnome bug 755693 in gregex "future of GRegex" [Normal,New]16:31
Laneykenvandine: empathy looks mostly good (but unbuilt/untested): I think that debian/shlibs.local might need bumping, and you might want to add Provides for the dropped packages to ease upgrades16:45
