In my head one works best. It has 4GB of DDR3 and and i3. [00:48] The other is a 2010 HP mini laptop and a third has a intel celron processer and 4GB of DDR2 ram [00:49] Is lubuntu considered a light OS? [00:49] yep [00:50] It seems to run really good on my netbook. [00:51] I don't know if I should upgrade the DDR3/i3 laptop with an SSD or get one for my Intel Celeron / DDR2 laptop. [00:52] What would you suggest? [00:52] i'd go for the i3 [00:54] should i abandon the one with DDR2? [00:54] Intel celeron [00:54] The netbook kinds sucks but I like to carry it at work i have to type out a statement or 2. [00:54] i mean you could do both but ddr is ooooold [00:55] and celrons can be problematic at times [00:56] laptops don't run on ddr anymore? [00:59] ddr2 i meant [00:59] tbh, ddr3 has gone by the wayside [01:00] but it's hard as heck to find ddr2 [01:02] all this time i thought my i3 was a beast. i hadn't stopped to think about that fact that i bought it 7 years ago. [01:04] would you recommend I load up lubunto on the intel celeron or should I get a heavier OS? [01:04] it will be hard pressed to run anything outside of lubuntu [01:06] thanks for you help. [01:06] i don't know anyone else that knows anything outside of windows. [01:06] that's what we're here for :) [02:23] need some help [02:24] i installed lubuntu 16.04 on a hp mini netbook but cant see wifi networks. [02:24] i'm new to linux. tried google but nothing seems to help. [04:40] where can i download WIfi drivers for HP Stream Notebook [04:40] i just installed Lubuntu and not able to connect to the internet [04:40] wifi drivers are not installed yet.... === RobH_ is now known as Guest4959 [08:31] I've just installed lubuntu on a netbook and when I press any key it automatically brings up the log out / shut down prompt. [08:50] Guest4959: sounds weird. Have you tried logout and login again ? [08:55] Yeah I've done that and even reinstalled again using a pen drive. As soon as I press any key to type password it turns off. [11:24] hola [11:24] anybody in here? [11:25] yep [11:25] !ask | mishugana [11:25] mishugana: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). [11:27] My problem is this - I'm running an Ubuntu 16.04 (?) instance on my macOS using Vmware fusion, and it gets extremely hot even for moderate use [11:27] I've given 4GB (tried upto 6GB) RAM and 60GB [11:27] and have the usual bunch of compilers running (no heavy IDEs, just Emacs and Sublime Text at most) [11:28] and I had read the Lubuntu is far more resource-friendly than Ubuntu? [11:28] I know that a lot of the issues are due to Vmware fusion itself, but I'm looking for a handy distro that I can do development on, but is less resource hungry than Ubuntu [11:28] mishugana: the only difference is the default DE [11:28] but with good support from libraries and software [11:28] DE? [11:29] mishugana: if you already have ubuntu installed you can just apt install lubuntu-desktop [11:29] and then pick lubuntu as your session on login [11:29] it's the same kernel etc in the base [11:29] mishugana: Desktop Environment [11:29] so, is it indeed more lightweight than Ubuntu in terms of performance? [11:29] your... graphical desktop etc [11:29] Ah, okay... thanks [11:29] and also, is it possible to install it completely headless... I don't really need the UI [11:30] mishugana: sure, install ubuntu server or the minimal iso [11:30] Hmmm... okay... and any idea if the it's leaner on resources than base Ubuntu? [11:31] Ubuntu server? Of course [11:31] there's no X installed at all by default [11:32] excellent... and it has access to the same repositories, right? [11:33] mishugana: yes [11:33] thanks, hateball [11:33] that helps! :-)
