[02:08] This Goose is cooked https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/RmBJD0qH/goose_is_cooked.gif [07:42] morning boys and girls. [08:42] Good morning all! Happy Tuesday, and happy Lost Sock Memorial Day! 😃 [08:44] step 1) throw out all socks 2) replace with 20 pairs all the same 3) there is no step 3 [08:44] Step 3) wonder why you only have 19 pairs of socks and one odd one. [08:45] then you hit the intruder alert button... [08:46] Does that summon the sock police? [08:48] no that would be the summon sock police button... 1 up, 2 along beside the summon tomato ketchup button [08:49] "Summon tomato ketchup button", a.k.a. "Child". [08:49] Ketchup on everything. [08:51] JamesTait: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsJxBr3LHCc [09:16] aloha [09:16] how is everyone ? [09:21] meh [09:32] warm dry sunny weather... it's unnatural... make it stop... [09:34] zmoylan-pi: come to Wolverhampton cold grey and heartless [09:34] i mean it hasn't rained in days... they'll be declaring a drought soon... [12:37] Winsider Preview has just bit my bum :-p [12:37] nvidia drivers installed via Windows Update killed display [12:38] and now I'm trying to figure-out why hyper-v has died [12:38] maybe I should ignore hyper-v death and revert to using virtualbox [12:43] diddledan: or just stick to Linux ;) [12:43] :-p [12:46] nah os/2 is the future!! :-) [12:47] * zmoylan-pi adds tick to the note of how many times i have recommended oses to people and sees os/2 ahead of windows... :-P [13:29] OS/2 Warp 4 was awesome. [13:30] been able to format a floppy and not have system grind to a halt... [13:31] But if you want to strike OS gold, look up TempleOS. [13:32] the one recommended to me today was endless os [13:32] The sole dev has a mental disorder and swears a lot in his videos. God speaks to him through the OS development. [13:34] the swearing i can handle. the god speaking to them is a smidge more worrying for the creater of an os you're trusting your data with [13:37] apparently the Holy resolution is 640x480 [13:38] God insisted on it [13:38] with 2 or 4 colour support? [13:39] 16 colours [13:40] but that would reduce the amount of video ram available for your ram disk!! [13:40] Oh and there is no mouse support. [13:40] \o/ [13:40] and there was much rejoicing [13:40] Devil makes works for idle hands and such. [13:45] 2 day turnaround by MS on fixing an RCE bug: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39856391 [13:49] Props to MS for that! [13:50] aye, and those engineers who worked through the weekend deserve a cold beer and a rest! [13:50] amazing response IMO [13:55] pretty standard for any small to medium sized business - but if its M$ they get praise? :p [13:58] Are you 14? Who referrers to Microsoft as M$ anymore? [13:59] did they get better? :D [13:59] I praise any software dev that turns round a fix for a critical vulnerability in just a few hours. [14:02] ditto: they've gone through not knowing the bug exists -> trying to understand how the exploit works -> finding the right code path -> figuring out what's wrong with that code -> applying a potential fix -> compiling -> potentially getting a broken build -> potentially not having fixed the problem -> testing that the fix doesn't cause problems to other stuff [14:02] -> packaging for release .. [14:02] ALL IN 48 hours [14:03] sorry, how much money does microsoft have, and how big is their dev team (spanning multiple timezones), and what do they do for a living? [14:04] i'd argue the better way to describe what they've done is 'surprise' - rather than pat them on the back. most other decent tech firms would expect that kind of turnaround as a minium, nevermind one that sells end-user software. [14:04] largely because they're typcally shit at that kind of thing :p [14:04] Surprisingly, yes. I feel like they have gotten better. They're not perfect. I trust Microsoft more than I do Google. [14:05] bashing Microsoft is childish. [14:06] sure, call them out when they do something wrong, but don't moan that they get praise for doing something right [14:07] don't think i complained, just said what they've done should be the norm. [14:07] it is for the rest of us. [14:07] Take your average Linux distribution. A critical bug is fixed, but it still takes a day or two for that to come downstream. [14:07] Unless you compile yourself from sources. [14:08] Same is true for BSD. [14:09] Heck, it could be two month for the FreeNAS devs to push out a security update. (Known from experience reporting an OpenSSL vulnerability) [14:10] Open source should be able to move faster, but it doesn't. [14:10] different set of challenges eh. [14:11] So as I said. I praise anyone who can turn around in 48 hours. [16:44] \o/ Found the charger/transfer cable for my mp3 player [16:45] Audiobook heaven here I come :) [17:23] http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/stephen-fry-blasphemy-probe-dropped-after-garda-fail-to-find-substantial-number-of-outraged-people-35692915.html [17:26] diddledan: As a somebody who goes to church every week, as a christian, as part of the church PCC, that charge was ridiculous, freedom of speech does come into it (but can be limited in certain circumstances), but I can't understand how anybody would be offended by what he's said [17:27] Maybe I'm in the minority, but I respect anybody's choice of point of view, I might not agree with it, but I won't complain if its different to mine [17:35] DJones: Je Suis Charlie :-) [17:39] if non- people aren't allowed to call out plot holes in teachings then how does ever get a chance to adapt to modernity?! As a christian I welcome people challenging me [17:40] I like the plot twists the best ;-p [17:40] diddledan: Yep, thats my view as well [17:40] Its called free will, I respect that [17:41] I'm perfectly happy to be proven wrong. Scientific process requires that I be open to the idea that there is no deity. Likewise I'm open to the idea of science proving that there is a deity afterall [17:42] the way I see it is: if I believe in some deity and follow that religion, and I'm wrong, what do I lose? [17:44] the lack of losing anything by being wrong is outweighed by the fraternity and belonging of believing in deity [17:44] ...well, if you're wrong,....you have to move to America were Disney's Mickey & Donald are president & VP :) [17:44] lol [17:44] poor murrica :-( [17:44] ..Ooops, Mickey & Donald are VP & President [18:01] Good morning [18:06] ello popester [18:06] you been away? [18:09] DJones: the theory goes that it was done to raise awareness of the silly law === Darkstar is now known as Guest33656 [18:10] aye, it is a bit strange of the complainant "doing their civil duty" in reporting it but that they weren't offended themselves [18:10] if you weren't offended, then why report it?! [18:10] civil disobedience meets malicious compliance [19:55] \o hi folks [20:22] here's a message I have not seen since the 90's http://i.imgur.com/k0QEped.png [20:22] after installing visual paradigm for UML [20:26] dogmatic69, phew, you wouldn't want to rack up the phone bill! [20:26] :D [20:26] It's wierd, the site looks like it was only released last week using the latest in material design and HTML5! [20:27] with a message like that you would expect a bit of , and some geo-cities gifs [20:29] a client called me out the other day because the government housing website wasn't doing what they wanted, so i popped over as soon as i could "oh, well it didn't load earlier" [20:29] *facepalm* [20:38] lmao, luckily I am somewhat sheltered from customers these days [20:38] :> [20:53] www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaEC-lWSlmI [21:18] shared connection is so bad here i had to sign up to a mobile broadband service temporarily ;) [21:18] 100GB isn't much to get by on! [21:28] :-o [21:29] i used up 8GB watching a single baseball game XD [21:37] * dogmatic69 flashes the 300mbps virgin line [21:49] isn't baseball one of those sports that pre internet you could watch all the action on teletext? :-P [21:52] and the guy swung his stick. missed. now walking to the next position [21:53] and the next guy swung his stick. missed. walking to the next position. previous guy walking to the next position beyond that [22:02] FBI director has been fired by trumpet [22:04] well he put the knife in hillarys campaign... you can't trust someone like that...
