claimHi guys. I have a problem with my KDE Plasma workspace on Kubuntu 16.10. I connected a separate monitor via HDMI to my laptop, then Unified outputs. Now when I disconnect the monitor and break unified outputs, my task bar is not showing on the laptop screen anymore. Is there any way to reset the multi-display behavior to defaults?10:35
claimI already tried xrandr -s :0 - but that didn't fix it.10:37

BluesKajjubo2,  check your pulseaudio settings in system settings> multimedia>audio & video>hardware tab (pulseaudio)17:32
apbI can't ssh login as root.  kubuntu 16.04 recently installed.  google has a couple of answers that don't help... been at this for hours.  Any help?17:37
BluesKajapb, to remote host ? server? ...?17:42
Dragnslcrapb- if you mean ssh to a Kubuntu computer as root, it's because the root account isn't allowed to log in17:44
DragnslcrYou need to log in as a regular user and use sudo to run commands as root17:45
BluesKajapb,  you're not ssh-ing with sudo su I hope?17:49
jubo2BluesKaj: settings look ok. no sound still.18:06
BluesKajjubo2,  is your loopback in alsamixer disabled ?18:07
BluesKajjubo2,  it's just to the right of the automute setting18:10
Seikusahi, anyone here to help with grub problems18:13
jubo2BluesKaj: it was disabled. now enabled but no audio18:23
BluesKajjubo2,  is this a laptop18:25
jubo2yes18:25
BluesKajis pulseaudio installed?18:27
jubo2I dunno. The audio is pretty much how the installer set it18:28
jubo2BluesKaj: yes it is installed18:28
BluesKajwhich audio card ? , upper left in alsamixer18:30
jubo2BluesKaj: HDA Intel PCH18:30
jubo2Chip: Realtek ALC269VC18:31
BluesKajok you have the intel audio snd-hda-intel driver, sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel , that should load the driver there won't be any output from the command18:33
BluesKajthen you may have to reboot18:34
=== djohnsto is now known as CrazyDT
jubo2ok. I reboot now18:35
BluesKajjubo2 then if that doesn't work you'll have to play with your pulseaudio settings ...somrthing i don't know much about since i don't use it18:37
jubo2it doesn't work18:38
BluesKajdoes any audio work, system sounds even or?18:40
jubo2no audio works18:40
BluesKajand are you talking about speakers, headphones ?18:41
jubo2currently the output should be on the laptop speakers18:41
BluesKajand all your alsamixer controls are turned up and unmuted, no MM in the box at the bottom of the ctls18:43
jubo2headphones is marked 'MM*18:46
jubo2the MM went away when I plugged a cable in18:47
BluesKajjubo2,  install pavucontrol , then set your audio outputs there since youre using pulseaudio18:59

TrelWhy does Kubuntu 17 not include net-tools by default?21:15
geniiTrel: Mostly because the "ip" command can replace most of the commands in it21:29
geniiIt's sort of like the busybox of network tools21:30
TrelAh, I had no clue it even existed, which is surprising.21:35
TrelLooks like I got a new command to learn21:36
