cfhowlett!es12:57
ubottuEn la mayoría de los canales de Ubuntu, se habla sólo en inglés. Si busca ayuda en español entre al canal #ubuntu-es; escriba " /join #ubuntu-es " (sin comillas) y presione intro.12:57
cfhowlettor is that italian12:57
Pici!it12:59
ubottuVai su #ubuntu-it se vuoi parlare in italiano, in questo canale usiamo solo l'inglese. Grazie! (per entrare, scrivi « /join #ubuntu-it » senza virgolette)12:59
Pici(its an from a .it host)12:59
cfhowlettreally?!  that's some FINE detective work, Lou!13:00

Piciwhois'ed the user, then plugged it into drill -x  (or dig -x if you prefer)13:01

nailykHi all. I just restart my debian to goes into ubuntu and the intel i211 network card is flapping every 4 seconds. A cheap usb/Ethernet works fine. Am not able to find many ressources on internet.17:35
nailykAny advices how to solve this?17:35
nailykPartial syslog: http://paste.debian.net/941013/ the intel adapter is the enp6s0. Thanks in advance :)17:37
nailyksorry forget versions: working in debian 8, not working in ubuntu 16.04.02.17:42
xubuntu22dwhat kind of printer do i need to connect with my xubuntu 15.0417:48
geolrHi, troubleshooting my 16.04 install. Booting fine from USB, then installing runs smoothly. But the reboot ends with a black screen. Tried the other ubuntu options from the boot menu, there I see a kernel panic, no working init found. Any clues where to start?18:14
geolrIt\s a elderly Dell XPS430 with Core2 quad cpu18:14
geolris the kernel not compatible, any boot options that are different from the live boot?18:15
mrkrampsgeolr, can you boot an older kernel?18:22
geolrI used 14.04 for years... So the new kernel is too new? The one booted from live-usb is fine18:24
mrkrampsmight be a kernel upgrade18:24
geolrjust did a e2fsck looks ok18:24
geolrfor /18:24
mrkrampsthe same kernel version is shipped in different versions when upgraded18:25
mrkrampsthat's what i meant wieh "older kernel"18:26
mrkramps*with18:26
geolri'm typing this on the 16.04 live-usb. uname -a says18:26
geolrLinux xubuntu 4.8.0-36-generic #36~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Sun Feb 5 09:39:57 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux18:26
geolrso that kernel should be ok18:26
geolrwhat is changed in the final install?18:27
mrkrampsobviously not as you get a kernel panic on boot18:27
geolroh, uname checks the harddrive, not the running system?18:27
nailykit check the runing system18:28
mrkrampsno, the kernel in the live system should be fine of course … my fault18:28
mrkrampsbut your installed system most probably uses 4.8.0-4518:29
geolrah, I ticked to download updates... shall I try again without that?18:30
geolrbut fear the next update will then screw up again.18:30
mrkrampsgeolr, for now i'd recommend reinstalling with 16.04.1 NOT .218:31
mrkramps.1 uses 4.4.0 with 3 years support for xubuntu18:31
mrkrampsthe hwe stack in 16.04.2 with 4.8.0 is only supported for a shorter period18:32
geolrgreat, thank you! I'll try my best.18:34
ddaughtreyHey everyone. Pretty new to xubuntu. Is there a way to auto-check for updates? Or do I just wait for the system to prompt me to install?21:51
knomeyou mean to ask if there is a way to *manually* check for updates? :P21:52
ddaughtreyHaha yes exactly21:52
knomeit's been a while since i've used the GUI updater, but i'm pretty sure it has a button to run the check21:53
ddaughtreyCan you do it from a terminal?21:54
knomesure; "sudo apt update" and then sudo apt dist-upgrade21:54
knome(the latter updates the packages)21:54
Unit193knome: apt full-upgrade21:55
knomeyou can also do "apt list --upgradable" after the first one if you for some reason do not want to update, just see the updates21:55
knomeUnit193, hm?21:55
Unit193knome: apt-get dist-upgrade or apt full-upgrade, not apt dist-upgrade21:55
knomei just do apt dist-upgrade :P21:56
knomeis there a difference?21:56
Unit193I doubt it, however the latter is not documented in the manpage or help, so likely compatibility and may be removedlater.21:57
hollaknome: see 'man apt'21:58
knomeholla, thanks for the information... :P21:58
hollathere is no dist-upgrade21:58
Unit193holla: He's right in that it does function though.21:58
knomei'll try full- next time then. good to know21:58
* holla hates undocumented stuff21:58
knomepretty sure it's there for all apt-get migrants21:59
ddaughtreyUh if it's not listed on the manpage that's weird because it definitely ran when I used sudo apt dist-upgrade21:59
knomeddaughtrey, nah, it's probably just an alias21:59
Unit193knome: I'd presume they're the same since 'apt-get dist-upgrade' is now 'apt full-upgrade', and I'd say you're right.  I *thought* it didn't work, maybe I tried it and it was added later?  I have no idea.22:00
* knome shrugs22:00
knomeit's worked for me from the day i started using apt22:00
ddaughtreyAlias makes sense.22:00
Unit193'There is a new "apt full-upgrade" that performs a apt-get dist-upgrade. "apt dist-upgrade" is still supported as a alias. The "apt upgrade" code is changed so that it mirrors the behavior of "apt-get upgrade --with-new-pkgs" and also honors "apt uprade --no-new-pkgs".'22:04
mrkrampsoO22:04
knomeUnit193, as an* :P22:05
Unit193knome: Don't look at me, not my commit!22:05
knomei know! :P22:05
Unit193...c832379bb1163800ed24412fbc19c53eea606a66 is mine.22:06
knomeoh yes that22:06
knomebrings me back fond memories22:06
knomeof funny commits22:06
knome(:22:06
Unit193Welp, ddaughtrey is gone.  I was going to mention that `apt` won't update any snaps he has though.22:07
knomeoh, snap!22:07
knome(:22:07
Unit193ddaughtrey: I wanted to say though, `apt` won't update any snaps you use.22:12
ddaughtreyI'm not going to lie, not 100% what that means22:13
Unit193It's an Ubuntu package format, self-contained squashfs systems.  It's an alternative to 'flatpak'22:14
ondondilbtw do you guys know if discord snap is maintained by canonical or discord devs or is it just made by some random guy?22:14
ddaughtreyOk so if I'm not sure if I've used any snaps would it matter to use apt or not?22:15
knomeondondil, i'd say ask the maintainer ;P22:15
Unit193https://insights.ubuntu.com/2017/05/04/discord-is-now-available-as-a-snap-for-ubuntu-and-other-distributions/ well considering the source...22:15
ondondilthanks Unit19322:17
Unit193Sure thing.22:17
BosiBHello everyone. I'm using Xubuntu 16.04 and I'm having trouble with my built in microphone of my Dell Latitude E6530. Any ideas?22:48
