* zmoylan-pi rebuilds second wonkiest pc to replace main pc which barfed when i tried to remove 4gb of old kernels...00:51
penguin42it barfed during kernel removal?00:51
zmoylan-piyup... took 10 hours and then got stuck in a loop trying and failing to remove some00:52
penguin42zmoylan-pi: Oh, I've seen some of that - although not the barf00:53
penguin42zmoylan-pi: Everytime dpkg removes a kernel it triggers the trigger that updates grub to regenerate the list of kernels00:53
penguin42zmoylan-pi: Now, because you have zillions of kernels installed that takes ages00:53
zmoylan-piafter a fsck it booted again but i'm pulling data off it to wipe and go with latest xubuntu00:54

acemastrlightning? in england? (ish)01:32
acemastrthat's rare lol01:33
daftykinsi did see heavy rain predicted for Sunday, so since i've only just kicked off my roof water leak insurance claim now i'll have to pop home and catch it dripping :P01:33
penguin42acemastr: We do get it a few times a year01:34
zmoylan-pibonus points it'll rain fish so you arrive home to an indoor aquariam01:39
penguin42there was another occurence of that happening in the news the other day01:41
zmoylan-pii think that was what made it spring to mind... i haven't seen a report in donkeys age01:42
zmoylan-pithough there was that shark found inland last year i think01:42
daftykinszmoylan-pi: had all those kernel packages made you hit an inode limit? :D01:44
acemastrwe just get aligators crossing the road01:44
acemastrsome guy ran over one on his motorcycle last week01:44
zmoylan-piwe have an infestation of foxes... :-) https://twitter.com/angryearthling/status/866280440570814466/photo/101:45
penguin42they are cute though :-)01:52
brobostigonmorning boys and girls.08:43
daftykinsripping out lath and plaster - things i hope to never do again16:19
DJonesdaftykins: Hot, sticky, bitty etc?16:53
daftykinsindeed!17:02
daftykinsblack stuff coming out of the nose due to the dust, oy17:02
DJonesYikes17:26
zmoylan-pii think when you hit the asbestos it's all done... :-P17:41
daftykinsmy Dad thinks i've been lucky not to find any XD17:42
zmoylan-piit was used _everywhere_ in the 60s...17:43
daftykinshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aM7RHrwBQIo17:43
daftykinsthat's my progress vid17:44
zmoylan-piyou should be wearing a breathing mask to catch the particles though... cheap at any diy place...17:51
daftykinsyeah, no time for that though17:51
daftykinsall done and we move on :>17:52
zmoylan-pisez the diy enthusiast coughing up a lung...17:53
daftykinsoh i'm not that at all, i just know how much in the hole i am with the contractor already!17:55
zmoylan-pithat's why they always charge an arm and a leg, they know how bad the internal organs will be... :-P17:56
daftykinsthey're making the apprentice do it at £22/hr17:56
zmoylan-pihow much do you charge per hour of i.t. work?17:57
daftykinsoriginally i was just going to have thermalboard thrown on top of what was there, but i said nah tear it down - and uncovered the roof leak17:57
daftykinsdepends how awkward they are ;D17:57
zmoylan-piwell naturally, but how much for custards?17:57
daftykins£40/hr has been a long standing rate for old clients, up it for new work though17:59
zmoylan-piooops theresa may was dragged into the british airways offshoring i.t. row last year... https://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/06/24/ba_job_offshoring_gmb_union_hand_delivered_letters/20:58
* penguin42 would like to know what actually went wrong before blaming them for offshoring it21:02
penguin42but saying 'the root cause was a power supply issue' - people do have this thing where they get reliant on one data centre; you should always assume data centres will fail21:03
diddledanI'm wondering if it's related to the capita datacentre failure21:07
diddledanan entire DC went offline earlier in the week21:07
daftykinsBritish Airways didn't seem to do well today, claiming a PSU took down worldwide operations!?21:08
penguin42daftykins: I think it's more claiming they lost power as opposed to a PSU21:08
zmoylan-piwell it was like the storm problem in new york were they had the diesel generators for backup on a high story and had to hand cart the diesel fuel for a few days up umpteen flights of stairs... you only find the problems with your system when it really goes wrong21:08
zmoylan-piwho knew the elevators would stop when the power went?!21:10
daftykinscould be, i kinda skipped past the heading just now reading some news21:10
penguin42zmoylan-pi: Yeh or the Japanese Nuclear site at Fukushima where the new electric gates wouldn't allow them to get to the fire engines21:48
zmoylan-piit's really complicated... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7WHM2rchJ021:51
penguin42damn that's neat22:05
zmoylan-piin our rush to replace things with new and shiny we abandon old working practical tech22:06
zmoylan-pibut you wouldn't want it were kids might try and play on it... but i reckon that's frowned upon at a nuclear plant anyway... :-P22:13
DM8_Hello. I wonder if anyone can assist. When I connect to my VPN using the network manager, the DNS lookups no longer work. /etc/resolv.conf specifies 127.0.1.1 as nameserver which is dnsmasq service. However, I need to manually add a nameserver of 192.168.1.1 which is my router before my VPN traffic will flow.23:02
acemastr`might as well use google's23:09
acemastr`not entirely sure what the question is though lol23:10
