[20:56] Hi [20:57] o/ [20:57] Hey foss [20:58] Can you help me? [20:59] sure - will try - depends on the question [20:59] I am trying to get firefox on the app list in the top left, currently it only opens when I type firefox in to a terminal [20:59] when it does open it does so with a grey box [20:59] rather than logo [20:59] how did you install firefox? [21:00] Downloaded from the website, extracted the file and sent it to /usr/bin [21:00] k - that is your issue. [21:01] why did you download and install directly rather than from the repos? [21:01] I followed the first link after I googled 'how to install firefox' :D [21:01] sudo apt install firefox [21:02] see... that would have been my first guess [21:02] but I wansn't confident it would work [21:02] and now I have shamed my family for six generation [21:02] lol [21:03] any tips on how to remove my previous download? or do I just go in and scoop it out with rm firefox when in usr/bin [21:04] not really sure - I've never installed directly [21:04] my add-ons are still there [21:05] when I open using the new link [21:05] addons would be stored in your local firefox profile - not system wide [21:06] when I open firefox in the terminal now it comes with the logo [21:06] has it maybe just improved the direct download I had started? [21:07] firefox from the repos is correctly patched to display stuff like logos correctly. [21:08] So it probably deleted all the old files ? [21:08] the ones I had previously installed [21:10] possibly - as I said I've never installed directly so I've no idea how the installer scatters the files around. [21:11] :D okaay, it seems to be working fine so I will leave it alone
