Can I ask questions here? [09:37] Ah, before that I will try restarting my PC. === alexander is now known as Guest67482 [09:40] Okay, it wasn't fixed. [09:40] So I guess I'll ask anyway. [09:40] My audio is crackling. It is not extremely bad but noticeable. [09:41] I haven't experienced this issue before. [09:41] VLC has the problem, and Clementine also. [09:41] I haven't tested other apps, but I think they are affected too. This is an almost new installation. [09:42] What are some common tests on diagnosing the problem? [09:42] Well, this is quite surprising, since it seems Amarok does not have the problem. [09:47] orthocube: In top, how much cpu is pulseaudio pulling? [09:47] hey guys, it seems my mic is not being detected. I can only see one audio profile which outputs sound. Here's the screenshot to the recording tab https://pasteboard.co/gOhn4QFzX.png [09:48] and here's the profile for audio playback https://pasteboard.co/gOjs0s4bs.png [09:49] lordievader[m]: Please wait while I check. [09:50] BTW, what would you prefer I use, would KSysGuard suffice? [09:53] lordievader[m]: PulseAudio seems to be using around 2% and Clementine around 15%. [09:53] I used htop. [09:54] Oh, that ain't to bad. [09:54] My CPU isn't that great, either, just a Celeron N2830. [09:54] You didn't modify any pulseaudio settings? [09:54] But the pops and clicks are audible, even when playing videos. [09:54] Nope--this is an almost new install. [09:54] Just added some apps I need, all from the offiial repository. [09:54] BTW I appreciate your help, really. Thanks. [09:56] Amarok seems to be unaffected, which is weird... [09:56] orthocube: Response 11 from [1] might help you. [1] https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116172 [09:59] I edited it, do I have to restart? [10:00] Okay, I'll try to restart. [10:00] LOL Clicking on X made Konversation show a warning message, causing a notification sound, and it is still clicking XD [10:00] Restarting... [10:04] I'm sorry, it still seems to be there. [10:04] It sounds really annoying. [10:04] I won't say it got worse, though. [10:05] VLC still has it also. [10:06] And Amarok still isn't affected. [10:07] I'll try booting from the live USB and seeing if the problem is also there (since that way, I can be sure that I didn't just mess my installation up) === kubuntu is now known as orthocube [10:14] Okay, I confirmed it, Dragon Player also makes clicks and pops even when running on the Live USB. [10:22] It seems to be erratic, since now, Clementine seems to sound okay :/ [10:27] And now it sounds bad again. [10:29] Audacity also has the problem, but in the end, it does seem Amarok is the only one unaffected... [11:27] hi, my kde-plasma breaks and the desktop is not responsive, I was used to run kquitapp5 plasmashell | true && kstart5 plasmashell | true , and this used to make the plasma to restart and the desktop was usable again. Now after the last update the same command is giving me an error. Where is the best place to report the issue ? [11:32] It seems that more people have the same problem as reported on https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/5sqwrf/kstart_plasmashell_doesnt_work_anymore/ [11:36] I managed to get this sorte by killing plasmashell and starting it again in the background, is there any other recommended way to deal with this ? [11:37] the result of that reddit threads it that they were wrongly using kstart instead of kstart5, and it works ok when they switched [11:40] 'kquitapp5 plasmashell && plasmashell &' usually seems to be fine [11:43] @acheronuk that works like a charm, thanks ! [11:45] good :) - killall instead of kquitapp5 would also work === quentin_ is now known as cux [13:47] Howdy folks [13:48] hi === ||Alienadu|| is now known as Jenisson === Jenisson is now known as ||Alienadu|| === dv__ is now known as dv_ === aaron is now known as Guest88859 === Guest88859 is now known as aanderse-laptop === santa is now known as Guest5212 === r__rios is now known as r_rios === Guest5212 is now known as santa_ [17:30] Syams Qomar was added by: Syams Qomar === dea is now known as Guest65242 [18:14] It's not kubuntu specific, but does someone know whats named for when someone halts your system from internet? [19:38] Hi all === zuck3r is now known as zucker_ [21:35] hello guys, a question to kubuntu devs: will be the newest mesa driver pushed to 17.04? [21:36] there's a tons of fixes for the new polaris gpus [21:45] enkeyz: that is not up to us; you might ask in #ubuntu-devel [21:46] hi enkeyz we don't maintain the mesa packaging in the scope of kubuntu, wrt packaging we just do the kde software. regarding you question there's a mesa package in -proposed, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa [21:47] santa_: that's only 17.0.6 [21:47] :( [21:47] latest stable is 17.1.1 [21:47] enkeyz: then maybe you are looking for something like this https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/ubuntu/updates ? [21:48] santa_: https://launchpad.net/~paulo-miguel-dias/+archive/ubuntu/pkppa [21:48] I can try it out, but I'm not sure it's ready for my production environment [21:48] that's why I asked [21:50] enkeyz: well you can allways try what's in the X team ppa and downgrade if it doesn't work fine for you [21:51] or the one from paulo [21:52] thanks for adding detail, santa_ [21:53] np [21:57] I just installed kubuntu on this laptop. I'm trying to get telepathy set up but it's crashing tyring to add a google account and is saying I need the haze connection manager and it's already installed. Any ideas? [21:58] glassd: telepathy is unmaintained and we're considering removing it [21:59] suggestion: use kopete or another chat application instead [21:59] :( [21:59] sorry to say [22:00] If it's going to work better I don't see why it would be a problem [22:00] kopete is well-maintained [22:01] telepathy was great, and then all the major chat-companies closed their APIs [22:01] not sure how kopete manages to get around that, but they seem to [22:02] discover also seems to crash on me alot [22:05] is there a why to uninstall telepathy from kubuntu? It doesn't seem to be an installed package [22:09] `apt search telepathy` will show you all the packages [22:09] and what's installed [22:09] looks like kde-telepathy is the metapackage [22:13] thanks [22:14] I've removed everything but it's still there in the tray.
