benfitzpatrick | hey all | 03:09 |
---|---|---|
benfitzpatrick | well i am going through my 1st ever kubuntu and in general 1st linux install, and i do wanna keep win10 on my hard drive. and i've seen pictures of KDE5 and it looks not to my liking so i went with 14.04.5 because it looked better to me so i fired up a 14.04.5 usb and its not showing my existing partitons on my Hard drive | 03:10 |
benfitzpatrick | i dunno what to do about this | 03:11 |
benfitzpatrick | and i did google this issue but..no result | 03:11 |
benfitzpatrick | and i was lead to believe that Linux support was there to help new users with setting stuff up and be interactive, and all i have seen here, is a "dead zone" | 03:14 |
fuze | benfitzpatrick: you can customize the look of everything in kde, definitely download kde 17.04 | 03:16 |
benfitzpatrick | well i did try it fuze, it was too much a UI overhaul, kde4 was just better for me tbh | 03:17 |
benfitzpatrick | and easier | 03:17 |
fuze | ok i see, just know there are less features and more bugs in my experience | 03:18 |
benfitzpatrick | i know | 03:18 |
benfitzpatrick | well kde4 had more of what i need than 5 tbh | 03:18 |
benfitzpatrick | but the only challenge is 14.04.5 is not finding my partitions on my laptops hdd/ssd hybrid drive | 03:18 |
IrcsomeBot | <ahoneybun> @benfitzpatrick, People are either sleeping or don't know the answer right now | 03:19 |
benfitzpatrick | and i ahh im sorry | 03:19 |
benfitzpatrick | i was just trying to get kubuntu installed i've been trying ALL day to get installed alongside win10 and it hasnt worked at all its not finding my partitions on my hdd | 03:20 |
benfitzpatrick | it does in the terminal but not the GUI | 03:20 |
benfitzpatrick | and ironically my USB is detected as sda and my hard drive as sdb..im like oook | 03:21 |
fuze | does the windows partition take up the whole drive | 03:21 |
benfitzpatrick | no i did make seperate space for linux | 03:22 |
benfitzpatrick | i have a 1tb hdd and it has a swap space and a free partition for linux alongside windows | 03:22 |
fuze | i think you need to disable fast boot | 03:23 |
benfitzpatrick | i have.. | 03:23 |
ahoneybun_ | *secure | 03:23 |
fuze | the checkbox for fast startup in windows power settings? | 03:23 |
benfitzpatrick | im in the kubuntu USB rn and i have the installer open but it doesnt see my windows partiton its showing me a blank drive | 03:23 |
benfitzpatrick | yeah i turned that off | 03:23 |
fuze | what happens if you try to create a new partition | 03:24 |
benfitzpatrick | it says its gonan wipe my HDD | 03:24 |
fuze | create the partition in windows | 03:25 |
benfitzpatrick | thats what i did | 03:25 |
fuze | create the linux partition in windows | 03:25 |
benfitzpatrick | yeah i did | 03:25 |
fuze | what filesystem | 03:25 |
benfitzpatrick | fat32 | 03:25 |
benfitzpatrick | and it wont show my NTFS nor fat32 partitions | 03:26 |
benfitzpatrick | it shows a totally blank drive | 03:26 |
benfitzpatrick | i wonder if i should try a different usb, im using a usb3.0 drive | 03:27 |
fuze | have you tried doing it with the fat32 partition deleted as unallocated space | 03:27 |
benfitzpatrick | hmmm i might try that and im gonna use a usb2 drive just to see if that fixes it | 03:27 |
fuze | that wont matter, unless the usb3 drive is faulty | 03:27 |
benfitzpatrick | i think it is, it has connection issues | 03:27 |
benfitzpatrick | it wont stay plugged in and i had issues booting the usb using universal USB installer | 03:28 |
fuze | do you have the 'something else' option here: http://www.debianadmin.com/wp-content/gallery/13-04desk/3.png | 03:28 |
benfitzpatrick | yes i do | 03:28 |
benfitzpatrick | and it shows no OS pre-installed | 03:29 |
fuze | if deleting the fat32 doesnt work, try making the partition ntfs | 03:29 |
benfitzpatrick | ok ill try that thanks | 03:30 |
fuze | you may run into this issue: https://askubuntu.com/questions/134124/why-do-i-get-no-root-file-system-is-defined-when-i-try-install-in-one-partitio/134131#134131 | 03:30 |

lordievader | Good morning | 07:06 |
user|19043 | hello all? | 07:31 |
user|19043 | I am using Kubuntu 16.04. How can I upgrade to 17.04 ? | 07:33 |
lordievader | user|19043: You first need to upgrade to 16.10. | 07:34 |
IrcsomeBot | <acheronuk> either upgrade to 16.10, then again to 17.04. or do a clean install | 07:34 |
lordievader | From there you can upgrade to 17.04. | 07:34 |
Mrokii | Hello. Since a few days ago, KDE connect on my Android seems to lose connection to my Desktop (it worked before). Specifically file transfers start, but then at some point my desktop isn't visible anymore in the Android-app and the file-transfer is being interrupted. Has anybody else had this behaviour? | 07:38 |
Mrokii | I just tried to pair the devices again, and that worked. Am trying another file-transfer to see what will happen. | 07:40 |

K-ubuntuer | Ok I'm going | 09:39 |
K-ubuntuer | Bye everyone! | 09:39 |
BluesKaj | hey lordievader, what's up today ? | 09:39 |
lordievader | Some disk optimization here. | 09:40 |
lordievader | How are you doing BluesKaj ? | 09:40 |
BluesKaj | good here, and you, lordievader? | 09:40 |
lordievader | Apart from the heat, I'm fine. | 09:40 |
BluesKaj | right | 09:42 |

Mrokii | I can't get IM Contqcts / Telepathy to work on Kubuntu. When I start "IM contacts" I get a message about no IM accounts being configure. When I hit "yes" to create one, I can do that (with chat being enabled), but I can't configure it and when I hit "okay" I can't choose anything but "offline" in the IM Contacts-window. What am I doing wrong? | 16:45 |
EldonMcGuinness | Is it just me or does the sending sms via kconnect not work | 17:15 |
Mrokii | EldonMcGuinness: I wouldn't even know how to do that. Is there a button somewhere for sending an SMS? | 17:17 |
EldonMcGuinness | Not that I can see, but I could have sworn there was to be an option for that | 17:18 |
EldonMcGuinness | I know it is in the Android client | 17:18 |
Mrokii | Ah, I thought it was a function on the Desktop. | 17:19 |
EldonMcGuinness | It should be! The Android app has an option to send sms. It just seems the desktop does not have a corresponding option. | 17:38 |
BluesKaj | EldonMcGuinness, check smstools | 17:50 |
EldonMcGuinness | Will give it a look | 18:55 |
Mrokii | EldonMcGuinness: Sending an SMS via the android app doesn't sound too useful to me. Sending one from the Desktop would be. | 19:56 |
=== hook is now known as silver_hook | ||
EldonMcGuinness | Mrokii: that is what it should let you do. On the app you give permissions for the desktop to do things. But there is no reciprocal button/prompt on the desktop. | 20:23 |
Mrokii | EldonMcGuinness: Ah, okay. | 20:23 |
Mrokii | Does somebody know if I can reset my password for a kdetalk.net-account? And how? | 20:26 |
clivejo | EldonMcGuinness: you have to be using the default messaging app on your Andriod device to be able to send SMS via your desktop | 20:28 |
clivejo | Default SMS app : Messaging | 20:31 |
Mrokii | clivejo: Ah yes, I have heard something like that before, but forgot it completely. | 20:31 |
clivejo | kinda wish there was documentation on these things! | 20:32 |
EldonMcGuinness | clivejo: I changed it back to the default and not seeing an option on the desktop to send a message. Perhaps it is reply only ATM? | 20:44 |
Mrokii | EldonMcGuinness: Could a restart be necessary? Maybe KDE connect doesn't recognise the change. | 20:57 |
EldonMcGuinness | Would be quite unorthodox for a desktop app to require a restart for a mobile change, but what the hey. | 21:16 |
Mrokii | EldonMcGuinness: Yeah, sure. Was just a thought. | 21:25 |
