thewillois there a way to get a log of all the commands called by a script or makefile?00:41
tgm4883thewillo: 'vi <script>'00:43
thewillotgm4883, The script calls other scripts and then enters a chain of makefiles00:43
thewilloit would take me a week to read through it and figure out everything exactly00:44
tgm4883thewillo: sorry, couldn't resist00:44
thewillotgm4883, :D00:45
thewillothere's 8gb of source, split into over 50,000 files... I need a log of it getting compiled using like 20 different compilers and tools00:45
leftyfbthewillo: that's a development issue. I'm sure there's tools to do so. Or if you want the raw data of everything going on, us strace.00:52
thewillostrace... that's what I need!00:53

snowkidindif i install a new version of go how do I get the server to recognize it over the previous version, e.g.  go version should respond with latest...01:21
Ben64depends how you install it01:22
snowkidindim on an odroid01:23
snowkidindhttp://www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linux/centos-how-tos/install-go-1-7-ubuntu-16-04-14-04-centos-7-fedora-24.html01:24
leftyfbsnowkidind: what does that have to do with Ubuntu?01:24
snowkidindthose instructions cover three os'es01:24
leftyfbsnowkidind: what version of ubuntu are you running right now?01:25
leftyfbsnowkidind: type "cat /etc/issue"01:25
Ben64the only thing supported here is stuff from the ubuntu repositories01:25
snowkidindUbuntu 16.04.201:25
leftyfbsnowkidind: sudo apt-get install golang01:25
leftyfbthat will install go01:25

snowkidindyup. wrong version01:26
snowkidindneeds 1.7 gives 1.601:26
leftyfbsnowkidind: that is the version available in Ubuntu. It's a fairly recent and is the only supported version01:26
snowkidind;/01:26
snowkidindharumph01:27
Ben64or install 17.0401:27
snowkidindthis is supposed to work with 1501:27
leftyfbsnowkidind: that said, if you want a later version installed properly, try this ppa https://launchpad.net/~gophers/+archive/ubuntu/archive01:28
snowkidindso what do I do to just point to the package I was able to build on my own?01:28
leftyfbsnowkidind: don't do it that way. You'll make a mess of things.01:29
snowkidindaargh01:29
snowkidindok ill take a look at that01:30
snowkidindthanks leftyfb01:30
glitsj16I have both linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 & linux-headers-generic-hwe-16.04 installed on 16.04 LTS (both currently on version 4.8.0.56.27). Working with the assumption that these dependency packages would automatically pull in what they need. But I see different behavior. When there's a kernel upgrade available related to these, doing a 'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade' shows some as held back. Nothing insurmountable, I alway01:43
glitsj16s do a 'sudo apt-get install ..' on what's held back and that works fine. Am I missing something to tell apt to not hold back on those kernel updates or is this not the way it's intended to work?01:43
Bashing-omglitsj16: Maybe : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TimeBasedReleases . To override I do ' sudo apt full-upgrade ' .01:46
glitsj16Bashing-om: thanks, I'll read that01:46
glitsj16Bashing-om: full-upgrade seems exactly what I was looking for, cheers :)01:50

foozb12Hey. Today I went through a bunch of themes. Tonight I noticed that all windows are not evenly/straight. Like, normally the side of an app is parallel with your screen. You can drag to the edge of the screen and it will line up06:33
foozb12But now all apps/windows, the sides go from top - narrow to bottom - wide06:34
foozb12I switched back to original theme, still same (No matter which theme I use)06:35
foozb12Basically, the sides of windows are no longer equal in width06:36

telboondang. i was migrating my linux config and realised they removed background image in gnome-terminal08:06
telboonanyone has a terminal to recommend?08:07
oerhekswhat is wrong with gnome-terminal ?08:20
oerheksoh that option is gone indeed08:24
telboonoerheks: yeah. that kinda sucked. so i'm now using xfce-terminal as default08:26
oerheksterminator perhaps, but i never understood the coolness of a background in terminal.. nor tranparancy08:27
sarySeems to be an old option and has been removed from some common terminals, it use to be in KDE's konsole , and maybe pantheon-terminal has it.08:33
akiksary: it's still in kde plasma 4's konsole08:36
akikjust checked, i don't use it myself08:37

telboonoerheks: well, this is the reason i got it http://imgur.com/a/6q70G08:46

saryakik, my bad! it's in kde 5 as well. havent used the DE's for a long time! i prefer GNOME.08:46

thewillowhat's the best ubuntu kernel in the repo for compiling stuff? java and c/c++ mostly09:19
bharathi_can i ask my question here as i am new here09:20
bharathi_hello there09:20
akikthewillo: the kernel doesn't play much of a part in your use case. have you ran into a problem?09:21
bharathi_editing a configuration file makes my website go down?09:21
thewilloakik: No, but I spend 95% of my time compiling, if I could get that down to 90% I'd be happy09:21
thewillobasically I have a massive project with almost 9gb of source code09:22
oerhekskernel version does not change compiling time that much09:22
bharathi_i have edited my php.ini file using putty. after that my site has gone down and i am not able to connect to putty.09:22
thewillooh, like generic vs lowlatency vs virtual vs hwe, not much difference?09:22
akikthewillo: buy new cpus if you can or distribute the compiling to many hosts09:22
thewilloakik: I'm buying a new rig when I get paid for compiling09:23
thewilloakik: but I still want the best software for the job09:23
thewilloso, kernel very little difference?09:23
bharathi_any one has idea how to solve this issue?09:24
thewillobharathi_, you can't connect at all to the server?09:24
bharathi_no09:24
thewillocan you ping it?09:24

thewillosounds like your server is down, I can't tell you wether it's because of editing that php file, which I doubt would crash the server, but you should try restarting it if you have the ability to09:26
bharathi_without connecting to putty, how do i restart?09:26
thewilloI don't see how editing a php config file would kill your server09:26
thewillobharathi_, do you have a control panel?09:26
thewillolike a management interface for the server like you would get with any decent vps?09:26
bharathi_it is on AWS, and i dont have cp installed09:26
thewilloWell, I can't help you... but, I doubt it's because you edited that file09:27
oerhekshow did you edit php.ini file using putty, with sudo ?09:27
bharathi_yes, putty with sudo09:27
thewillounless you've got SELinux flipping out, probably not related to editing that file09:27
bharathi_even winscp too fails to connect09:28
thewilloYeah, if you can't ping it, it's down, or it's connection is down09:28
bharathi_restarting the AWS instance will solve the issue?09:28
thewilloor you've configured it to not respond to pings09:28
thewillobut if you did that you would have said so when I asked you to ping it09:28
akikthewillo: you could ensure that you have the cpu scaling governor always set to performance09:28
bharathi_upload_max_filesize old 2M / new 10M post_max_size  old 8M /new 009:29
thewilloakik: I have it set to ondemand with turbo boost disabled cause of overheating09:29
bharathi_only these 2 lines i edited in php.ini file09:29
akikthewillo: :)09:29
thewilloI just need a new box for my project09:29
thewilloI need to get paid09:29
thewilloI'm trying out a Ryzen box tomorrow, I'm bringing an external drive with everything I need to test it out09:30
thewilloThe store built it for me, they don't usually build a rig so you can go to the store and test it, but I bring them a lot of sales since I'm the guy everyone asks for help picking out a new computer09:31
thewilloso, in like 5 hours I get to go play with the box09:31
bazhangthewillo, please get back on topic09:32
thewillosorry09:32
bazhangchatter in #ubuntu-offtopic09:32
thewilloI got nothing on topic...09:32
thewilloi'll just shut up09:32
thewillo:D09:32
bharathi_how do i solve the issue09:33
oerheksbharathi_, check your edit, undo it and see if it works aggain after restart apache09:38
bharathi_i am unable to connect to putty, after the change09:39
oerheksbharathi_, then go in your aws controlpanel perhaps?09:40
bharathi_it says - network error - software caused connection abort09:40
bharathi_from there, what i have to do09:41
bharathi_sorry, i am all blank now -09:41
BluesKajHey folks09:43
Beethovenon 16.04, I am connected to the WIFI but there is a very strange problem of intermittent internet access. whenever i first connect, i can't visit anything and ping also returns nothing but after some minutes, i am able to ping but it stops working a minute later.09:44
oerheksmaybe it gives an option to start a VM in recoverymode, like normal ubuntu09:45
Beethovensometimes i can visit 192.168.0.1, sometimes i cannot. it's a ridiculously irritating problem and i'd appreciate it if someone could help me here09:45

blackbird1Hi, in the Terminal, is it possible to make the prompt current path shorter ?11:18
blackbird1for example, instead mayar@mayarLinux:~/zz/a/google-ctf-2017/challenges/cryptography/Introspective-CRC$11:18
thewillouse a different shell11:19
thewillosudo chsh <username>11:19

thewilloset it to /bin/sh11:19

thewilloI think that one doesn't have the current directory in the prompt... not 100% sure11:19

blackbird1How to do it with sh shell ?11:20
thewillodo what?11:21
thewillodisplay blackbird instead of a string?11:21
thewilloI don't think you're going to get exactly the output you just asked for, but there is a shell that comes with ubuntu (I think /bin/sh but not sure) that doesn't show the path at all11:21

aantoonioI have 2 pc’s, one Ubuntu and one other distro. I did a install on the other distro and things work fine. Now I removed the hdd from the other distro pc and connect them as usb to my ubuntu pc, it became sdb. I have a same size hdd but from a other brand and connected it also usb, it became sdc. I want to make a exact copy to it. I used this command dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sdc bs=64K conv=noerror, sync but it did not work. I think maybe sdc is a tiny bit11:38
aantooniosmaller. How can i go about this?11:38
bekksDefine "it did not work".11:39
bekksAnd if your target is smaller than your source, you cannot make an exact copy.11:39
thewilloaantoonio, use a live cd to resize the partition to be smaller than your destination drive space, and then after you copy it to it's destination, again use a livecd to resize it to fill the space11:40
thewilloor, something like that... i dunno, there's probably a lot of ways to do it11:40
BluesKajshrink the source partition to slightly smaller then the target and use bs=4M instead of 64K11:41
BluesKajthen=than11:41
aantoonioBluesKaj: will that work?11:42
BluesKajI've done it, aantoonio11:43
aantoonioDoes it make a difference it is luks encrypted for resizing partition?11:44

kerimgHey all, I got an issue I never had before. When I try to start the 16.04 live USB from my motherboard's boot menu, it shows a black screen for a brief moment and then just goes into bios11:52
thewilloblackbird1, even better than my suggestion!11:52
kerimgI turned off secure boot as well as fast boot and turned on legacy mode but still11:52
EriC^^kerimg: try a memtest maybe?11:52
EriC^^or reset the cmos battery?11:53
thewilloLegacy mode is slightly worse than legacy bios mode... only slightly, but there is differences in how it interfaces with hardware in some cases11:53
thewillo*legacy mode sligthly worse than UEFI mode11:53
aantooniofrostschutz: if sdb has errors i want them to copyable, but it is sdc i am worried about11:54
thewilloMy UEFI is messed up... Like it's not UEFI compliant and I can't boot linux without dual-booting windows and telling windows to select grub instead of windows bootloader, so I'm stuck in legacy mode(and never buying an acer again)11:54
thewilloI never liked acer, but I was too poor to buy a better brand, and I ended up with non-compliant firmware that doesn't work properly with linux11:55
thewillobut legacy mode to the rescue11:55
thewilloeven legacy mode isn't BIOS compliant, and won't boot most ubuntu versions11:55
aantooniofrostschutz: and what would be the exact command?11:55
thewilloIt's like they didn't even test the laptop with anything other than windows 10 before they shipped it11:55
aantooniofrostschutz: and howlong would it take to copy 120G?12:00

BluesKajEriC^^, I wasn't sure , i've always used 4M12:05
aantoonioIs this the right command "ddrescue -r1 /dev/sdb /dev/sdc rescue.log" do i still need to resize the partition? do i only resize the last partition or all12:10
akikaantoonio: i wouldn't try to resize encrypted partitions12:14
akikaantoonio: at least find a confirmation/guide that says it's safe before trying12:14
EriC^^aantoonio: what are you trying to do btw?12:14
aantoonioEric^^:I have 2 pc’s, one Ubuntu and one other distro. I did a install on the other distro and things work fine. Now I removed the hdd from the other distro pc and connect them as usb to my ubuntu pc, it became sdb. I have a same size hdd but from a other brand and connected it also usb, it became sdc. aantooniony bit smaller. How can i go about this12:15
EriC^^aantoonio: as BluesKaj said you need to resize the filesystem and partition so it fits, make sure it will work with encryption though as akik said12:17
aantoonioakik: Yes i agree, making changes to sdb freaks me out, it is my main pc and i dont want to do a new os-install12:18
aantoonioAkik: I'm reading howto's on how to resize them but it not easy...12:19
aantoonioI it not posible to dd only the first 50G and leave the rest open or does luks have a end mark on the end of the partition?12:21
EriC^^aantoonio: you cant be assured the data is only in the first 50G12:22
EriC^^aantoonio: i think you can decrypt it, shrink it with resize2fs, then use some lvm stuff to shrink the partition, then you can dd it, but it's going to be missing the last part of the disk which will have the backup partition tables12:23
EriC^^(that's just my guess of stuff no idea about it really)12:23
akikaantoonio: here's info about resizing https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ResizeEncryptedPartitions12:24
akikaantoonio: it seems that cryptsetup has functionality designed for this task with "resize"12:25
aantoonioakik: already there12:25
EriC^^nice12:25
akikaantoonio: it's just very delicate task :)12:25
aantoonioakik: Yes and i'm a bit scared12:26
akikaantoonio: 13. <Say prayer here>12:26
aantooniooke I hope I don't insult anyone but I am not going to resize sdb. have to find a other way. how about moentign both disks and just copy them by hand?12:29
aantooniomounting that is12:30

EriC^^aantoonio: be sure to edit fstab and stuff to put the new uuid's12:33

boxmeinBluesKaj, no. but I now am12:34

BluesKajboxmein, so disconnecting the ethernet and logging out and logging back in doesn't show your wifi12:35
boxmeinBluesKaj, note. a fresh install of 17.04 didn't come with wifi drivers so I took it up and installed b43, let me re-check but it was most likely via bcmwl-kernel-source12:35
boxmeinBluesKaj, nope12:35
EriC^^aantoonio: if you format sdc to same yeah12:36

CTxCBHi guys, I've got what seems like a simple question: In Language Support > Regional Support, how can I stay with English (United Kingdom) but change the way Date is formatted?12:43
CTxCBSpecifically the DDMMYY portion, I don't want "Sat 24 Jun 2017", I want "Saturday, June 24th 2017"12:45
SimonNLCTxCB: in settings of the app maybe.12:45
CTxCBSimonNL: There's no way to alter this is Language Support.12:46
SimonNLCTxCB: does right click the date/time app give you the edit option?12:47
SimonNLmeant the date/time app icon on panel12:47
CTxCBNo, it doesn't. It uses the Regional Format from Language Support on System Settings.12:48
CTxCBMy problem is that in Windows for example, you can actually edit it in quite a lot of detail to customise it.12:49
CTxCBThe only settings are like 12/24hr, show date, etc. Nothing that pertains to the actual format it reads as.12:49
SimonNLhttp://imgur.com/a/CTkSP  this is what is shown after click edit but this is on linux mint12:50
SimonNLdate notation can be altered.12:50

CTxCBI'll look, I'm a bit surprised it isn't already a feature like Windows.12:52

mcphailqswz: Each file needs an index (inode) to point to it. Each filesystem will only have so many slots for indexes as these take up space on disk as well. If have smaller chunks, you need more potential inodes. This can be adjusted when you create the filesystem. It is not specific to the flavour of ubuntu you're using15:49
davido_What I'm saying is accept the sane defaults -- they're most efficient for the general use case. If you have a specific use case that benefits from tweaks, doing so may improve things in that case while degrading other things.15:50

akikNitrigaur: does your system mount the usb stick anyhow with your user id, just that the acl is wrong?19:42
Nitrigaurakik, it does not automount my stick, but after  I have mounted it from Nautilus, it is mounted on /media/<my username>/<Media Label>19:44
NitrigaurOriginally, that mount point was owned by root, but I chowned it to my regular user instead, hoping that that would let me create directories as a normal user at the root of the device node.19:45
akikNitrigaur: you can't use unix permissions on fat3219:46
Nitrigaurakik, I know, FAT32 doesn't support that, but still I am denied to create a new directory as a normal user. When I create a dir using sudo from the cmd-line, that works just fine.19:47
akikNitrigaur: after you mount it, do you see these options in "mount" command for the mount? uid=1000,gid=100019:48

NitrigaurNo, I see uid=1001, gid=100119:48
akikNitrigaur: is that your uid?19:49
Nitrigaurakik, here is the mount line: /dev/sde1 on /media/jorrit/Second type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1001,gid=1001,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,showexec,utf8,flush,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks2)19:49

akikNitrigaur: the uid for the mount must match the uid of the user you are logged in. i don't know what else would be the cause20:00

Nitrigaurakik, just a defunct user account.20:04
Akiva-ThinkpadNitrigaur: interesting... ill check. its a thinkpad x220t20:04
akikNitrigaur: just confirming whether you also renamed the earlier user account so that it's not also jorrit?20:06
Nitrigaurakik, actually it is not defunct, it happens to be the first user I set up, but it is not in use anymore. It was used specifically for my schoolwork. And since I have finished school, that account is not in use anymore,20:06
Nitrigauraki,20:06
Nitrigaurakik, no I did not rename my account. I have used Linux long enough to know that will spell trouble in capitals ;-)20:07
NitrigaurThe last time I did something silly like that, wasway back in 1999 ;-)20:08
NitrigaurIt was a learning experience and a painful one at that...20:08
akikNitrigaur: so you have two user accounts with the same name but with different uids?20:09
akikNitrigaur: renaming a user account is totally possible20:10
akikNitrigaur: if you don't want to do it manually, you can use usermod20:11
Nitrigaurakik, I know, but I did not do that on this system. As I just told you a minute ago, the first (and last) time I did that was back in 1999 and I'm not using the same computer from that era right now.20:11

Nitrigaurtechbomber, it's #ubuntu-offtopic20:21
akikNitrigaur: oh i guess i didn't umount it before i changed from akik2 to akik20:22
Nitrigaurakik, that might explain a few things, yes... :-) You were trying to enter a directory with exclusive read rights for akik2 as the user akik20:23
NitrigaurAt least that's what could cause the error you just saw.20:24
akikNitrigaur: did you see some errors in "journalctl -xe" when this problem occurs?20:24
Nitrigaurakik, unfortunately not.20:24
Nitrigaurakik, In fact I can now create a new dir inside the root of the device as a normal user, staright from Nautilus.20:25
Nitrigaurstaright -> straight20:25
akikNitrigaur: so the problem went away?20:26
NitrigaurSo, somehow I have already solved it. But it did not update the rights until much later. I wonder why. An eject/ remount cycle should have taken care of it, but it didn't.20:27
Nitrigaurakik, still, this does not solve the *default* behaviour upon entering a new FAT32 formatted device.20:27

kuriozalnyyet, installing kubuntu on /dev/sda7 (the only ext4 partition on hdd) didn't worked out20:54
NitrigaurTry to see in your BIOS/ EFI setup if there is an option to un-park your HDD...20:54

kuriozalnyNitrigaur: it's outdated, i've had a lubuntu parallel with win10 for more than a year now21:07
Nitrigaurkuriozalny, did you do a basic hardware check of your HDD using a live DVD?21:09
kuriozalnyNitrigaur: can you tell me how to do it?21:09
kuriozalnyi've given up since windows repair tool chkdsk got frozen in the middle.21:10
Nitrigaurkuriozalny, in that case, at least the pcb controlling the HDD is intactm or it wouldn't have booted to Windows in the first place.21:11
NitrigaurThat's a start at least.21:12
NitrigaurThat will probably mean that if you would insert a spare HDD, you might be succesful in installing an OS to it.21:13
akikkuriozalny: if you want to test a disk block by block, you can do it with badblocks program21:13
NitrigaurGood suggestion, akik21:14
kuriozalnyNitrigaur: i'm not sure if you've read it, but i've managed to mount ntfs partition and save some data to the other drive21:14
Nitrigaurkuriozalny, I must have missed that part, sorry about that.21:15
kuriozalnyakik: apt-cache search returns only e2fsprogs while looking for badblocks21:17
kuriozalnyakik: is it some sort of bulk package?21:17
NitrigaurI need to hit the hay. It's getting late and I need to participate in a neuroscience experiment tomorrow. I need my wits for that and before you ask: Don't worry, it's nothing involving invasive surgery ;-)21:17
kuriozalnyNitrigaur: Thanks for help. Good night21:18
akikkuriozalny: yes that's the correct package21:18
akikkuriozalny: mind though the test will take a lot of time21:18
NitrigaurGood (insert local time of day here), everyone. kuriozalny, good luck getting your laptop into a usable state21:19
hippkuriozalny: i use hirens .... lots of hdd tools ...  dos)21:19
hipp* stochastix (~quassel@unaff21:19
hipphttp://www.hirensbootcd.org/21:19
Nitrigaurhipp, does that DVDROM support gpt paritions?21:19
hippi believe it does ...  it is a collection of tools21:20
hipphas vendor specific hdd diagnostics21:20
Nitrigaurnvm, Going to sleep. Zzzzzzzzz Goodbye everyone. @ akik, EriCe, thank you for thinking with me on my ACL issue with my SD-card.21:21
kuriozalnyakik: how do i use badblocks? can't get anything from usage, it requires some input.. and output?21:23
kuriozalnyakik: nvm, i'll google it21:24
jwrUbuntu 16.04 normally comes with kernlel 4.4, but i want to run 4.6. pretty much everything on google says "download some deb file, dpkg -i, and you're good". will apt then know that it should pull new bugfixes and stuff from... where?21:24
akikkuriozalny: sudo badblock -n -o output_file -s -v /dev/sdxn21:24
akikkuriozalny: output_file is for the list of bad blocks it finds21:25
akikkuriozalny: sudo badblocks -n -o output_file -s -v /dev/sdxn21:25

justJanneI have an issue where ubuntu is not trusting root certificates used by Google, resulting in ubuntu being unable to connect to several Google properties22:40
justJanneAn example url that can be tested with curl or wget is22:40
justJannehttps://magenta.tensorflow.org/assets/nsynth_06_19_17/08-laaa.mp322:40
justJanneThe information how to include the CA is described here22:40
justJannehttps://security.googleblog.com/2017/01/the-foundation-of-more-secure-web.html22:40
justJanneIs this intentional?22:40
Genk1Hello all22:41
Genk1OK I have some kind of special question : I want a limited access user to have the possibility of executing chmod command in a file that was already owned by another user22:42
Genk1let's say : user abc need to chmod a file x owned by user xyz22:43
geniijustJanne: That might be a better question for #ubuntu-server22:43
Genk1I was thinking about chroot jailing22:43
justJannegenii: this is an issue that also affects anyone trying to connect to Google websites22:43
justJannegenii: major Google sites being inaccessible from ubuntu, client or server, seems to be a larger issue22:44
justJanne(firefox and chrome ship their own ca lists(22:45
IchimusaiGenk1: You might want to look into using setid on a script that only chowns the file to the correct user.22:46
Genk1Ichimusai: yes I was thinking about suid but I didn't know how to implement this22:47
Genk1I will try to check this out22:47
IchimusaiGenk1: Make a script that does the right thing, chown it to root, set the suid bit. Now make sure you implement proper bounds checking so it cant be used outside its scope22:48
geniijustJanne: There seems to be a thread explaining about curl/wget not caching intermediate certificates here https://github.com/certbot/certbot/issues/202622:49
justJannegenii: it's not about caching intermediate certificates22:50
justJannegenii: it's an issue with ca-certificates not being updates22:50
justJanneFirefox added the certificate to their ca list in january 201722:50
justJanneca-certificates was last updated in debian, ubuntu, and derivates in nov 201622:50
geniijustJanne: Maybe you should read there first and then get back to me22:50
justJanne(the ca was created in 2017)22:51
geniijustJanne: The user in this case added the LetsEncrypt cert but it was still not used because of the caching which browsers do automatically22:51
justJannegenii: this is not about the lets encrypt certificate22:52
justJanneThis is about a new Google root CA created in 201722:52
justJanneWhich works with curl and wget if you recreate ca-certificates manually22:53
justJanneOr if you use the ca list from firefox22:53
justJanneI'll just file first the bug against debian, and then a bug against ubuntu to import the updated package22:54
tgm4883justJanne: IDK, both digicert and ssllabs are complaining about the cert chain for that URL22:56
geniijustJanne: If you think it's a bug, file against package ca-certificates22:57
backnforthHi, my laptop failed to work today with ubuntu 17.04 but worked with ubuntu 16.0422:58
Bashing-om!details | backnforth22:59
ubottubacknforth: Please elaborate; your question or issue may not seem clear or detailed enough for people to help you. Please give more detailed information; for example, we might need errors, steps, relevant configuration files, Ubuntu version, and hardware information. Use a !pastebin to avoid flooding the channel.22:59
tgm4883genii: I don't think it's a bug. I think it's just missing an intermediate certificate on teh server22:59
backnforthMy internet was failing to work23:00
geniitgm4883: Here also, as the link I gave explains ( just in their case a different cert)23:00
backnforthEverything else worked fine23:00
backnforthI was able to ping my local router and get an ip, but could not communicate with the outside world23:00
genii!dnssec23:01
Ichimusaibacknforth: What was your network settings in 16.04 and did you implement dem in the 17.04 you tried?23:03
backnforthIchimusai: They were both a fresh install23:04
Ichimusaibacknforth: What was your network settings in 16.04 and did you implement dem in the 17.04 you tried?23:05
geniiThere is also a known DNSSEC issue in systemd resolved23:05
IchimusaiWhat is not an issue in systemd (sigh)23:05
backnforthIchimusai: I think the network settings were the same23:07
geniibacknforth: Try editing /etc/systemd/resolved.conf to change #DNSSEC=no  to DNSSEC=no  and then restart resolvconf23:08
backnforthgenii: I don't have 17.04 anymore.. I have a working 16.0423:08
geniiAh, nvm then :)23:08
