=== STiK is now known as MauiBlowsGoats === MauiBlowsGoats is now known as STiK [04:53] Good morning [08:30] omg... please disable hyperthreading on "Skylake" and "Kaby Lake" .. https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2017/06/msg00308.html [08:34] If only I could -.- [08:34] Asus better quickly release the uefi update. [08:35] Luckily it is only triggered under certain workloads. [08:35] i read someone about a newer intel-microcode [08:36] http://news.softpedia.com/news/debian-devs-urge-intel-skylake-and-kaby-lake-users-to-disable-hyperthreading-516654.shtml [08:41] For Skylake microcode is available, yes. [11:10] Hey folks [11:20] Hey BluesKaj, how are you doing? [11:21] Hi lordievader, fine here, and you? [11:22] Doing good here too :) [11:34] hey guys [11:39] Hey EriC^^, how are you? [11:41] Hi EriC^^ [12:16] hey lordievader BluesKaj [12:16] good thanks, you? [12:20] Doing good here too :) [12:21] :) [12:51] hi all [12:51] hey ducasse [12:51] how are you? [12:52] good thanks, and you? [12:52] good as well :) [12:53] hey ducasse, been on vacation? [12:54] no, spent a few days in hospital (heart thingy). back now, though :) [12:55] but you're ok now ...good ! [12:55] i'm good yes, thanks :) [12:58] how are you BluesKaj? going anywhere this summer? [12:58] or you,, EriC^^? [13:01] I'm fine thanks ducasse, we're sticking around the house for most of the summer. We'll be travelling south to visit our Son and Daughter and their families the cuople weeks of August [13:02] the last couple weeks, that is [13:03] not going anywhere myself, most likely. might go visit my mother + sister and the kids for a few days, but nothing major. can't take the cat with me, and don't like leaving her :) [13:03] ducasse: good to hear you're doing better, i'm not travelling anywhere this summer, i'm pretty broke :D [13:04] take her with you in a nice kitty carry bag [13:04] hi all [13:05] maybe next summer if i can put aside some money, i'd like to visit europe more [13:05] \o immu [13:05] Windsor, Toronto and Montreal is a bit of a drive, but we do it every yr... no pets to worry about [13:05] ducasse, hi all [13:05] :) [13:05] EriC^^: where would you like to go? [13:05] london [13:06] you've never been? [13:06] hi immu [13:06] nope [13:06] i love london personally, been there 10+ times. [13:07] nice [13:07] what is your favorite place there? [13:07] or one of your favorites [13:09] of sightseeing stuff? i really liked british museum, london tower and museum of natural history. [13:10] cool [13:12] shopping there is great of course, if that's your thing. [13:12] aha [13:12] shopping is always fun especially for gadgets and stuff [13:13] i think the most nice stuff would be the architecture and general culture [13:13] have you ever been to scottland or ireland? [13:14] i hear the landscapes and stuff are very nice [13:14] :) [13:14] unfortunately not, always wanted to see edinburgh in particular. [13:16] aha [13:21] dublin would also be a cool place to visit, i bet [13:31] We were planning a euro trip and started saving for it a few yrs ago, but our dollar has lost 25% of it's value, so a trip to Europe basically beyond our budget now....it's a shame, but we put the money to good use around our house instead. [13:35] a few days ago the ethereum coin market crashed cause somebody decided to make a market order sell of $30million worth of it, it went down to $0.11, some people bought it at that price, basically if you bought worth $1000 you'd have $3million in few seconds when it goes back to $300-ish [13:36] lots of people lost a ton of money cause of stop losses and margin calls when it crashed, the exchange said they're going to reimburse them from their own wallet :D [13:38] * BluesKaj googles ethereum coin market [13:39] it's a fork of bitcoin, except it's more business-y and has "smart contracts" it might become very widely used, it reached $400 per 1 ether [13:41] i finally got a netflix account to watch movies, and they're having technical difficulties today xD [13:46] working now :) [13:53] what are you using as a player - pc with browser? [13:53] my former ISP keeps snding me brochures adressed to our location telling us their fibre optics servcie is available here, , but when I checked on thir site our location still only offers dsl 6mb service, so emailed them accusing them of false advertising and bait and switch tactics. The next day I got a phone from the ISP rep apologizing profusely for any misunderstanding. [13:54] "misunderstanding", sure... [13:54] to me it looked like delberate attempt to bait and switch the the technically challenged customer [13:58] and they also advertised fibre optics right to the customers house, which is also untrue . It's fibre to the nearest node then plain old twisted copper phone line from ther to the customer's residence. [13:58] crooks [14:00] isps often are [14:11] we do have a cable co fibre optics internet , tv, and phone services available , but the cost is much too high for my budget (fixed income ) [15:22] we have fiber optic connection right to my DP port in my house [15:22] DP panel [15:26] https://launchpad.net/~nschloe/+archive/ubuntu/intel-microcode-backports [15:26] https://launchpad.net/~nschloe/+archive/ubuntu/intel-microcode-backports [15:26] FYI ] [15:26] FYI [15:33] we're in a small town, but the cable co here runs fibre optics right to their customer's homes and it's quite expensive so they expect you to sign a contract for 2 yrs minimum for bundled services, TV, internet and phone [15:36] similar to triple play services of ours [15:37] yup, very popular with most ISP, and convenient for customers [15:40] we to have a lock-in for two years [15:40] for most services [15:40] I've seriously considerd switching to their basic package, but I see little advantage in a doubling of costs for us since faster internet doesn't really do much [15:42] brb amigos going out [15:42] need to visit few homes [15:42] byeee [15:49] BluesKaj: they can bundle stuff here as well, but that's entirely up to the customer. you get some discounts etc if you do, though. [15:51] yeah ducasse, there are discounts for new customers , but after 6mos or so it's full price here [15:51] how expensive is a basic package? [15:53] around 150cdn, buit after 6mos it's closer to 200 [15:53] per month? [15:53] that's for the 3 services [15:53] per month [15:55] wow. here i pay something like 35 usd for 250mbps + tv package and a few extras. [15:56] we have a large landmass is large with relatively small populationthat the initial infrastructure costs for fibre optics are very high, hence the high cost to the consumer [15:58] sure, i get that. now that low-latency satellite is coming maybe that would be an option? [15:59] my dsl service better than the sat internet services and much cheaper [16:01] dsl is limited to 6mb, but we can live with cost at 30cdn/mos and our phone at 25...my tv sat service is 60/mos [16:01] right. if dsl works for you everything is golden :) [16:02] yup, wife is happy , she can play Lord of the Rings Online without lag [16:02] :) [16:02] it's conistent [16:11] bbl, gotta give these old eyes a rest === IdleOne- is now known as IdleOne [19:26] hi Bashing-om [19:29] EriC^^: !! ..
