[20:53] I need suggestions. A friend of mine has run into disk consistency issues that are preventing boot on 10.04 (!). The error message from initramfs says to run fsck, however it is not installed and apt isn't accessible. Booting from a live disk has the same issue (fsck not installed). [21:04] paddatrapper: just install fdisk in the live system [21:05] superfly: dpkg not found on the live system [21:05] Er fsck [21:05] Wat [21:06] Sorry I meant live disk [21:06] The live disk should have dpkg installed [21:07] I'm just waiting for him to send me the exact message [21:07] Live disk is 10.10 [21:07] Probably an permission error [21:07] Oh dear, your friend is stuck in the past... [21:08] Yup. I plan on giving him Debian 9/Ubuntu 16.04 next time I see him [21:09] Seems like he doesn't have Internet at home, so any machine there that doesn't come to campus doesn't get updated [21:11] Joy. [21:11] superfly: how are you doing? [21:12] At the moment, recovering from gastro. Otherwise I'm good. [21:12] Fun times... Glad you're recovering [21:13] Yesterday was not fun. [21:14] I heard there are some people complaining about temperatures of 40 degrees in Cape Town [21:14] Here in Arizona, 40 is a cool day. [21:14] :) [21:15] Well, earlier this year, I imagine that is pretty cold right now [21:16] paddatrapper: how are you? [21:19] superfly: We've had a fire going about 12 hours out of every 24 lately... [21:19] I'm good thanks. Last 2 exams next week and then I'm free to work on GSoC and other interesting things [21:25] \o/
