Fujiwara_Hey guys10:14
Fujiwara_Need some help with installing Lubuntu with bootable drive. Getting error messages while trying to install https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DD9o-Y9XoAAPmFt.jpg:large10:15
HelpMe_TYi left a question yesterday am still waiting10:31
Fujiwara_I fixed my problem somehow :)10:35
jk^hi all12:06
jk^how to check the checksum of file downloaded by http://lubuntu.me/downloads/12:07

tsimonq2Oh, bot automatically muted you, sorry jk^12:14
jk^ok12:15
jk^how have i to use? excuse, i'm not good on pc12:15
leszekif you have a linux box open a terminal and type in sha256 /path/to/downloaded/lubuntu.iso12:15
leszekof course adjust the path :)12:15
leszekthis will give you the checksum for the downloaded iso. You can compare it with the one from the file linked above.12:16
jk^i'm on win yet12:16
jk^but i want to farewell it and i hope i'll good on lubuntu12:17
leszekjk^: this might help you. Seems to be a tool for windows https://bhoover.com/how-to-verify-checksum-windows/12:17
tsimonq2jk^: I'm going to be honest with you here, verifying the checksum of the ISO is absolutely best practice. It's the best way to make sure you don't have a faulty ISO. But it's not mandatory. ;)12:18
tsimonq2jk^: We highly recommend it because it helps solve a lot of problems, but it's not absolutely 100% necessary.12:18
jk^i just want to know: are MD5, SHA1 and SHA256 three different ways to check the downloaded file? Or have i to use all of them?12:18
jk^:\12:18
leszekthose are 3 different ways12:19
leszekyou can combine them though as md5 and sha1 are not collision free anymore12:19
tsimonq2Meaning, they're more succeptable to vulnerabilities.12:20
jk^i downloaded lubuntu from here http://lubuntu.me/downloads/12:21
jk^16.04.02 - 32 bit version12:21
Unit193leszek: Though arguably since sha1 needs 100 computer years, and if the attacker has 100 computers, 16.04.2 is still below one year. ;)12:22
jk^is SHA256 the best way than SHA1 and MD5?12:23
leszekUnit193: true :)12:23
jk^?12:24
leszekUnit193: though even apt deprecated sha1 signed repos. And it took years for them now to finally integrate apt-transport-https12:25
leszekjk^: its the most secure of the bunch.12:25
Unit193leszek: Correct, though since everything is gpg verified, https is actually less secure than the default.12:26
leszekhow is that ?12:27

red_hey, I'm trying to install the latest version of Lubuntu and keep getting held up shortly after starting the install. I  run into Kernl Offset: 0x2 from 0xc1, end kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs, random: crng init done. It doesn't proceed after this stage, is it an easy fix or should I just bin this ancient laptop; I figured it'd be funny to revive it but so far it's more hassle than it's worth15:12
