[06:42] Hi! I'm on lubuntu 14 and I don't seem to have lxsession-default-apps [07:03] kDycu: Lubuntu 14.04 LTS is no longer officially supported by the Lubuntu team. [07:04] kDycu: It's supported by Ubuntu/Canonical, the base is, but Lubuntu 14.04 as a desktop is no longer supported. [07:04] kDycu: That being said, I'll try to help you anyways. :) [07:04] kDycu: Why don't you just install lxsession-default-apps? :P [07:05] apt-get doesn't seem to be able to find it [07:06] I'm sort of chained to 14.04 because upgrading seems to break the one completely unsupported/abandoned program I need my lubuntu install for [07:06] kDycu: And what program is that? [07:07] It's complicated-- but it's essentially a bit of emulation software for a pinball game [07:07] like an actual physical real world cabinet [07:07] it's called Pinbox [07:07] Oh, interesting. [07:08] And just out of curiosity, why does that chain you to 14.04? :) [07:08] the way it autostarts seems to break if I upgrade further [07:09] It autostarts out of init.d which if I understand correctly is no longer used after 14 [07:09] I tried upgrading to 16 a few days and found that out :/ [07:10] the only reason I wanted to upgrade was to try and solve an intermittent no audio problem on boot, and I was sort of hoping upgrading would fix it [07:10] Ah, ok. [07:10] kDycu: How'd you install the emulation software? [07:10] Is it in the repos somewhere or via another website? [07:11] it came packaged as a live disc install [07:11] it's technically "warez" so it's unobtanium at this point [07:11] I just have a copy saved somewhere from when it was available [07:13] but it's literally the only option I have for running these pinball machines. they came out in 2000 and the proprietary hardware is long since dead. Pinbox is a cracked version of Nucore which was for like a year a brief modern solution but they've been on indefinite hiatus for several years now [07:14] This is interesting... [07:14] I've never had this sort of situation before [07:14] Right now I'm playing locally with an LXD container and seeing if I can run X apps in that [07:15] kDycu: Because if you only have a binary and not a tarball, an option could be to update your system but containerize this application in a 14.04 environment [07:19] Oh no he left [07:19] Anyways, I think this is interesting enough to play with it locally [07:19] Maybe I'll write a blog post or something [09:41] Could I be cheeky and ask, what 'command' should I use with Lubuntu 16.04.1 in a cron job to restart the machine? [09:43] I've done a little research and apparently different distributions don't all use "@reboot" [09:55] NinjaKirby: Lubuntu works with @reboot :) [10:14] Ah, many thanks tsimonq2 :) [12:11] is upgrading from 16.10 to 17.04 on a public network via do-release-upgrade safe? Merci. [17:40] I'll give it a try. Be indilgent aubout my spelling! How coul i bring the screen résolution to 1280x800 when it is stubornly pretending that it can't do anything but 640x480? Thks! [17:53] Is there anybody out there? [17:54] LimaDELTA: pastebin the results of the xrandr command, which should list your cards and their capacities [17:56] IThanks wxl i should tape xrandr in the terminal right? [17:56] xrandr [17:56] LimaDELTA: yep. you can do `xrandr | pastebinit` if you have pastebinit installed, which will print out a url to the pastebin, which you can copy here [17:56] more info: [17:56] !pastebinit [17:56] pastebinit is the command-line equivalent of !pastebin - Command output, or other text can be redirected to pastebinit, which then reports an URL containing the output - To use pastebinit, install the « pastebinit » package from a package manager - Simple usage: command | pastebinit [17:58] Im' trying! Got to say that i've got a segond problem as the language is French but the keyboard seem's to be some type of qwerty [17:59] not being french that creates a little dilemma regarding how to fix that [17:59] but assumedly: [17:59] setxkbmap -layout fr [18:00] in preferences/lxkeymap you should be able to select it, too [18:01] The bloody thing just desapird! [18:01] "thing?" [18:02] Sorry the execute windows is gone! [18:02] i'm still not sure i underestand [18:04] after i press the enter keyboard the windos "execute" go missing [18:04] what are you trying to execute? [18:05] `xrandr | pastebinit [18:05] don't use the ` [18:05] just do: [18:05] xrandr | pastebinit [18:12] xrandr fail to get size of gamma for output default / screen minimum 640/480 current 640/480 max idem [18:26] Ok wxl thanks for your help but i'll try some other time!
