diploAnyone good with systemd ? I basically have one initd script currently that starts a few of our processes, googling to try and find the best way to do that in systemd but seem to be failing. Each service script has one program to start09:45
diploIf anyone can point me in the right direction, I basically want to do systemctl software start09:46
diddledandiplo: initd scripts are still supported by systemd09:46
diddledanif you really want to rebuild them as pukka services you'll need to write a file in /etc/systemd/system/<servicename>.service then systemctl enable <servicename> and finally systemctl start <servicename>09:47
diploinside of that it starts 5 of our programs09:48
diploI read somewhere I could get one systemd script to trigger multiple others though09:48
diploAnd I can't find how09:48
diplo:P09:48
diploBut yeah, I know they are stull supported currently but they are being discontinued at some point09:49
diploI may just get the services to shutdown cleanly and then the customers can just run shutdown and the OS can shutdown them properly rather than the customer09:50
diddledanthe spec for .service files is at https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.service.html09:50
diploCurrrently we run service software status and it shows all 5/6 programs are running09:50
diplota, reading through now09:51
diddledanoh, it's split. there's more spec here: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.unit.html#09:52
diplothanks09:55
diploTis a bit of a minefield I find :)09:58
diddledanyeah, it's not very well documented in an "when you want to do X. you need make Y look like"09:59
diddledanway*09:59
diddledanit's read the spec and guess10:00
diddledaninitd scripts were much more understandable because they were scripts10:01
diploI guess so yeah10:10
diploSorry went for a walk, stretch legs and mind :)10:10

diploThis just got more problematic, we do some weird and wonderful stuff in our init scripts :/10:49

foobarryhow can i get awk to print a bash variable that's a string? e.g. export FOO=BAR; awk ' { printf "$BAR" }'12:16
foobarryworks with integers only12:16
SuperMattI have no idea12:20
daftykinsit's not anything to do with print vs printf is it?12:21
foobarrygot it12:25
foobarryits just weird with bash variables12:25
foobarrycat file | awk blah works with strings12:25
foobarrybut bash variables requires a mega hack12:25
foobarryprintf "'$FOO'"12:26
foobarrywon't be used in prod code, don't worry12:26
